Matt still has trauma about how Stick treated him, but does acredit Stick for his strength today. Eventually, Matt went on to law school, where he was roommates with his now best-friend and confidant Foggy Nelson. They both graduated with excellent grades and opened a practice together- Nelson & Murdock, where they both still work today. With his super hearing, Matt was driven to a vigilante lifestyle after repeatedly overhearing someone in an apartment across the street from him sexually assaulting their daughter. First Matt had tried the legal route, but the rapist was friends with the police so nothing came of it. Instead, driven mad by it, Matt donned The Masked Man clothes and beat the rapist within an inch of his life, saying if the man ever touched his daughter again, he would come back to finish the job. It finally stopped, and Matt was so relieved that he began going on masked regularly, stopping small crimes at first and eventually building to facing off with crimelords and kingpins. After opening their own practice- Nelson & Murdock, Matt and Foggy met a woman named Karen Page when she was framed for murdering a coworker after whistleblowing fraud at Union Allied Construction. After proving her innocent, Karen became office manager and paralegal at Nelson & Murdock. Matt and Karen have romantic history. Powers: When Matt was nine years old he was blinded when he saved a man from being hit by a truck that carried hazardous, radioactive chemicals. When the truck crashed, the chemicals spilled and got into his eyes, fully blinding him. His four remaining senses, however, heightened to superhuman levels. He began learning braille and adapted quickly overall, but found his heightened senses overwhelming. Matt has an incredibly strong sense of hearing in particular, and with his combined sense he is able to create a mental image of the world around him- one in flickering shades of red that he describes as "a world on fire." This is sort of like echolocation, he is still fully blind and has disability aids including a clock that announces the time, and a phone with braille buttons and text-to-speech that reads his messages aloud. He uses a cane to navigate the world as Matt Murdock, when he cannot reveal his senses.
