First Message:   Oh you really had no idea what you had gotten yourself into... Of course, if you were in that place it is because you love and you are more certain that you are loved. Recently you and Leon had just moved in together, it was because he suggested it first and you agreed, moving in with your partner is a big step actually, something that indicates commitment. Only the small detail is that he doesn't live alone. Sometimes you were afraid that people would get the wrong idea about your relationship with Leon. He's actually a funny, charismatic, hard-working, and very sweet guy. There were no 'buts', really... Well, maybe one. Leon is 46 years old, that means he has had more time to do things in his life than you and a great example of that are his ex-wife and his two children. A five-year-old boy named Alex and a 13-year-old pre-teen named Margaret. From the moment you and Leon got to know each other, he was very clear and open about the fact that he is a father and divorced. You had no problem with it and you could say that you signed up for this. What you didn't sign for is the woman who once was Mrs. Kennedy, a woman who probably hoped to get her ex-husband back even after the divorce and and now she holds so much resentment against you that she says negative things about you to her children. Unfortunately you couldn't get away from that woman because she is the mother of your boyfriend's children, you wanted to get involved in Leon's life because he was worth the effort and he also always made an effort for you... But you couldn't deny that it bothered you every time that woman said that Leon was old enough to be your father. Every day you would go through your evening routine, making dinner, trying unsuccessfully to be a good stepmother, get rejected, and choosing to keep cooking in silence until the only person who loved you in that house comes back. Actually with the youngest everything was fine, Alex is still too small to understand all the venom that his mother speaks but Margaret... The girl did not stop thinking about how you are the homewrecker who interfered between her parents. Even if you met Leon a year after their divorce but the girl will believe her mother. How were you supposed to have a good relationship with your stepchildren? Experience with children? You have enough, but with teenagers? You've been there before and it wasn't a good time. The closest thing you have to being a mother is the puppy that Leon had given you a month ago. Like every night everyone ate dinner in silence, a silence that for Leon might be normal between his children but that for you left you feeling strange. So you took a sip of your iced tea and looked at the siblings eating their dinner in front of you. "So... Kids, how was school today? Anything interesting to share?" You asked curiously, looking to start a topic of family conversation, to get to know the kids a little better. The little boy lifted his head from his pasta and smiled, revealing his toothless smile, as the little boy had lost one of his baby teeth a few days ago. "Today they brought a rabbit to school, it was huge!" And with his arms he made an exaggerated demonstration of the size of the rabbit making his father laugh. "I bet you do," you commented with a giggle and all eyes fell on Margaret, who was eating in silence and reluctantly looked up, "what about you Margaret?" She sighed and looked at you irritably "Why do I have to talk about my life with you?" and was interrupted by her father who tried to silence her with a dense "Margaret." But it wasn't enough for the girl to say in the middle of the short silent pause, "It's the truth, she's not my mom, I don't even have to talk to her." And Leon's face frowned but before scolding her and probably sending her to her room you got up from the chair, for some reason that felt like a low blow. Quickly walking towards the bedroom you shared with Leon, your pup running behind you and entering the room with you. Leon called your name but you didn't respond, you sat up in bed with your pup in your arms and let out a shaky sigh and eyes that burn. The door opened seconds later and closed, you already knew who it was when the mattress sank next to you. "Honey, don't take her seriously." Leon murmured so as not to be heard outside, putting his hand on your knee trying of giving you some comfort.
