The team operates a German/Czech Panzer 38(t) , found by Hana Isuzu in the middle of a forest, which late in the series is converted into a Hetzer tank destroyer. Initially, it was first painted gold. About the Panzer 38(t) The Panzer 38 (t) is a Czech-built (but used by the Germans) light tank, armed with an underwhelming 37 mm gun. About the Hetzer The Hetzer is a German-built tank destroyer based loosely off the Panzer 38(t) design, ideal for ambushes and armed with a good 75 mm gun. Against St. Gloriana During the training match against St. Gloriana Girls College, the Turtle Team's Panzer 38(t) was crippled early by a loose track, but they managed to repair it and catch up to the city where the match had resumed. Turtle Team engaged the St. Gloriana's tanks at point-blank range but it spectacularly missed the target, being then taken out themselves. 63rd National High School Sensha-dō Tournament Before the Sensha-dō Tournament, the Turtle Team repainted their tank German grey and added an image of a running turtle. They did not change the paint scheme again until they converted the 38(t) into a Hetzer. Against Saunders During the match against Saunders University High School, Turtle Team acted as the flag tank; despite being the objective, in the latter part of the battle, of Saunders' attacks, it survived while Anglerfish Team managed to hit Saunders' flag tank commanded by Alisa, gaining victory. Against Pravda The semi-final round against Pravda Girls High School would see the finest performance to date of Turtle Team. After being lured into a trap inside the village, Ooarai's tanks managed to break through their lines; Turtle Team took charge of a disturbing action, engaging the enemy at very close range and managing to take out two of them, damaging some more. After that, they were taken out by Nonna's tank; in the end, Ooarai managed to win the match. Against Kuromorimine Prior to the final match against Kuromorimine Girls Academy, the Turtle Team's Panzer 38(t) was converted with a kit into a more useful Hetzer tank destroyer. The tank was painted yellow. During the battle, it operated alone, ambushing and hitting in their tracks two of Kuromorimine's tanks (among which the fearsome Jagdpanther) in hot pursuit of Ooarai; asked to rejoin, on the route to the hill where Ooarai had taken refuge they crippled the Jagdpanther yet again. Ooarai's breakthrough worked thanks to Turtle Team reaching Kuromorimine's lines and wreaking havoc with its mere presence, which enabled the other tanks to rush down and punch a hole in their disarrayed formation. After that, they were lured by a lone Panzer III Ausf.J into a trap set by a super heavy Maus tank into the city; Turtle Team was a critical part of Miho's plan to take it out, ramming it below its frontal plate to immobilize it and serve as a springboard for Duck Team's Type 89B, which had to keep its turret turned to expose the vulnerable vents to their Panzer IV's fire. Right after that, the Hetzer broke down, having been almost crushed by the massive tank's weight. Ooarai went on to gain a narrow victory by defeating Kuromorimine's flag tank commanded by Maho Nishizumi. This match also caused the Turtle Team to draw the ire of several members of Kuromorimine's Sensha-Dō team. Most notably, is the Jagdpanther Commander, who was forced to change the tracks twice, and the Panther Commander, who was in charge of the right flank, which fell into disarray when the Hetzer rolled into their midst. Both members of Kuromorimine get triggered when they see a Hetzer, or are reminded of the match and have sworn revenge against the crew of the Hetzer. Against St. Gloriana - Pravda Compound Team Late in the match against the St. Gloriana - Pravda Compound Team, Turtle Team and Hippo Team were together pursued by a T-34, the two Ooarai tanks being at a tactical disadvantage due to their inability to fire towards the rear. Turtle Team was able to disengage and meet with Mallard Team, helping them to enact the "Morals Committee Super Attack" to defeat said T-34. Shortly afterwards, Turtle Team found themselves with a clear shot on the rear of St. Gloriana's flag tank in the midst of a tricky duel between the two side's flag tanks. With Momo Kawashima in the gunner's chair, desperate for her first kill, she pulled the trigger and fire a haphazard shot that deviated high and wide, yet scored an immobilization on Rosehip's Crusader tank that crested a ridge just in time to get hit by the stray shot. Against All-Stars University Turtle Team began the match against All-Stars University acting as a scout for Team Sunflower. They reached the top of the hill ahead of the main force, declaring it to be uncontested. When the force came under attack, Turtle Team was the first to realize that they had been surrounded. Turtle Team then joined Acorn Platoon in hunting down the enemy artillery, with Anzu assuming de facto command of the strike team. When Anzio's CV-33 failed to land a finishing shot on the Karl-Gerät and landed upside down right in front of its gun, Anzu enticed Anchovy (through the temptation of some sweet potato pasta) into a lightning fast repair of the tracks, which allowed the Hetzer to use the upturned tankette as a jump ramp, launching it into the air, from which Anzu fired directly down the gun barrel of the self-propelled artillery piece, immobilizing it. In the theme park, Turtle Team worked closely with Anglerfish Team in a game of cat and mouse through a large hedge maze. The Hetzer's small profile almost immediately sealed its undetectability, causing the university tanks to focus on following the Panzer IV. At the moment when it seemed like Anglerfish Team had been cornered into a dead end, Turtle Team, which had reached that center of the maze, fired through multiple rows of bushes to knock out the Pershing tank. Towards the end of the battle, Turtle Team is shown attempting to flee alongside Anteater Team, but is taken out by Alice Shimada. Members Anzu Kadotani "Do your best, everyone!" ―Anzu encouraging her team while slacking off Anzu Kadotani (角谷 杏, Kadotani Anzu) is Oarai Girls' Academy chairman, former president of th student council, the tank commander, radio operator, and sometimes even the gunner for Turtle Team. She is one of the three secondary protagonists of Girls und Panzer. Since she see it as possible way how to set back closure of Oarai Girls Academy to win 63rd National High School Senshado Tournament, she initiated reintroduction of Ooarai's Sensha-dō Club and became the commander, radio operator and later gunner of Turtle Team. Her team operates a Czech Panzer 38(t), later modified into a Hetzer during the battle against Kuromorimine Girls Academy. Appearance Anzu is a short girl with a long twin ponytail tied by black little ribbons , light brown hair and a pair of brown eyes. She is seen to wear Oarai school uniform or Oarai Sensha-do uniform. Personality Anzu is well known for her manipulative personality, and is quite talented at getting others to do what she wants. Sometimes she seems to be quite cold and aloof, but most of time she is remarkably hyperactive, for example when forcing Miho Nishizumi to join the Sensha-dō team, much to the latter's reluctance. However, she was later revealed to actually be kindhearted and friendly, with her apparent imperiousness being motivated by her strong interest in the school's survival. She is mostly shown to be cheerful, talkative, smiling and cheeky regardless of the situation, often upon the point of seeming carelessness. She is also famous for being quite lazy and indolent, always relaxing and fooling around while making others (especially Yuzu) take care of administrative work and other tasks. However, she always lends support when people get in trouble, and she has shown herself to be quite determined and a quick learner, when the situation calls for it. She is also a surprisingly good leader, and behind her laziness is also a sort of management style, as she can micromanage everything effectively in her laid-back style. She is also notorious for loving sweet dried potatoes, which she is frequently seen eating, especially during Sensha-dō matches. Background Anzu became the Ooarai Girls Academy student council president when she was just a first-year, along with Momo and Yuzu, but how they came to their positions was not shown. She was responsible for the revival of Ooarai's Sensha-dō team in a last-ditch effort to keep the school from closing due to financial problems and decreased enrollment (although this fact was not revealed until much later), but she admited that she been maybe in fact motivated by interest of Sensha-do. She first forced Miho Nishizumi to join the team because she was aware of Miho's background as the only student in Ooarai with Sensha-dō experience; at first Miho refused, but, when her friends stood up for her to Anzu's supposed threats, she relented because of sentiment to her friends who wanted to join Sensha-do. For their first mock-up match, supervised by their instructor Ami Chōno, Anzu was assigned to the Panzer 38(t) as the commander/radio operator, along with the rest of the student council which included the vice-president Yuzu Koyama and the PR manager Momo Kawashima. Later, her team was dubbed "Turtle Team". During the semi-final round match of the Sensha-dō competition against Pravda Girls High School, the secret about Ooarai's possible fate is finally revealed by Momo Kawashima during a desperate moment (the Student Council had almost revealed it to Miho before, but ultimately kept it a secret since they did not want to give Miho too much pressure), and Anzu confirmed that a victory in the Tournament was necessary to save their home; this spurred Miho and all the others to keep fighting on. In the subsequent fight, Anzu showed her own determination by finally taking over the gunner's position from Momo, and instructing Yuzu to drive dangerously near Pravda's vanguard tanks to allow her to shoot at them at point-blank range; she managed to take out two of Pravda's tanks and damaged some more before being hit by Nonna. Prior to the final round match of the Sensha-dō competition against Kuromorimine Girls Academy, Anzu bought a kit to convert their Panzer 38(t) into a Hetzer tank destroyer to improve their line-up, with herself as the gunner; she showed off her sharpshooting skill by crippling several enemy tanks with well-aimed shots. Later, she participated in the celebratory events for Ooarai's victory, going so far as to hug Miho to express her gratitude. During the banquet, her team was declared the winner of the Hidden Talent Contest much to everyone's disdain, all but confirmed when it was revealed that the grand prize was a huge quantity of sweet dried potatoes valued by Anzu which made the others settle down. In Der Film, Oarai Girls Academy was almost closed. Although it was negotiated that Oarai Girls academy would not be closed if its Sensha-do team won 63rd National High School Senshado Tournament, this hadn’t been released as a binding agreement. However, Anzu, together with Shichiro Kodama, Shiho Nishizumi and Ami Chono, by pressure methods to Head of MEXT School Carriers Department, Renta Tsuji, negotiated a Sensha-do match with the All-Stars University Team. Tsuji officially signed an agreement that, in an Oarai victory, the school shall not be shut down. He believes that Oarai, vastly outnumbered and outgunned, do not stand a chance and didn’t expect the other schools to transfer extra students and tanks to aid Oarai’s cause. In das Finale, she, in order to aid Momo with her efforts to get into University, initiated the resignation of the old student council in favor of new a one created out of members of Anglerfish team with Saori Takebe as the PR manager, Yukari Akiyama as the vice-president and Hana Isuzu as the new president. These outbursts appear especially during their Sensha-dō matches, but also during training and when drafting tactics for their matches (such as when Miho questioned her strategy's effectiveness). Beneath all else she shows a constant determination to avoid defeat at any cost. These outbursts perhaps contribute to a notoriously poor aiming record of precisely no confirmed hits during her time as gunner. She serves as the vice president of the school's Student Council. She's also the driver of Turtle Team's Panzer 38(t) which is later converted into a Jagdpanzer 38 (t) or Hetzer. Appearance Yuzu is a girl with dark brown hair, which she usually wears tied with a black ribbon in a medium ponytail, and dark brown eyes. She have large bossoms, and she standartly wear Oarai school uniform. Personality Yuzu is well known for her kind and gentle personality, and is usually the one who ends up doing all the work while Anzu slacks off and Momo gives orders; she seems to tolerate it, although she has shown some desire for help (as when the newfound tanks were cleaned). She has a close relationship with the rest of the Student Council, having served together for some time and had many profound moments. Her relationship with Momo is particularly close, and she often refers to her as 'Momo-chan', a nickname Momo seems to dislike. She also on occasion teases Momo about her poor accuracy during matches. Despite her kind and patient demeanor, Yuzu can be pushed to the point of genuine anger; an occurrence which occurs about once a year, according to Anzu. During this time, she basically sulks and ignores the person vexing her, not unlike a child expressing displeasure at someone. However, her kind personality invariably wins out, and she can be placated by the offender being deliberately kind to her. In Momo's case, during Chapter 28 of Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu!, this was by buying Chaux Ice Cream Puffs for Yuzu to eat. Background Yuzu was been the Ooarai Girls Academy's Student Council vice-president before she been replaced by Akiyama Yukari. Together with Anzu and Momo is responsible for the revival of her school's sensha-dō team in a gamble to forestall the school's closure due to financial problems (although at the beginning this is not revealed). For now, there is only one known rule, where the tanks' weight must be below 10 tons, limiting the battle for light tanks and tankettes only. The lack of rules allows the matches to unofficially happen anywhere, both in rural settings, where viewers can stay in the middle of the battlefield watching if they want and in urban areas, where the citizens/viewers are in the middle of the match. It is the total responsibility of the viewers to ensure their own safety against being hit by a tank or shells. The team's members are recruited from universities across Japan, usually from elite national, public, and private schools such as "T-dai" (Tokyo University), "K-dai" (Keio University) or "O-dai" (Osaka University). While on the team they undergo rigorous training, preparing them to be integrated into various professional teams once they graduate.
