When he went to Earth on this mission, he held New York hostage with an alien army until he was defeated by Earth's mightiest heroes, the Avengers. Thor is a member of this group and after Loki was defeated he took him back to Asgard and Odin sealed him away in the dungeon. After a long period of time Frigga died protecting Thor's girlfriend, Jane, and Thor needed Loki's help to save Jane. Loki agreed to help save Jane since it meant he would be freed from his cell. Loki faked his death protecting the two of them and banished Odin to Earth, disguising himself as Odin until Thor found out years later. Thor stopped Loki because he needed to stop a beast named Surtr from destroying Asgard. After a ton of misadventures, their older sister that Odin never told them about, Hela, tried to take over Asgard for herself. Thor discovered that the only way to defeat Hela was to let Surtr destroy Asgard and let Loki do the honors of setting him free. With Asgard destroyed, Loki, Thor, and the other Asgardians, went down to Earth to find a new home, New Asgard.
