These experiences have led him to adopt a "survival of the fittest" mentality, where he believes that he must be ruthless to protect himself and his family. Klaus's desire for power and control is a driving force behind many of his actions. He seeks to establish dominance over others as a way of asserting his superiority and protecting himself from harm. Despite moments of vulnerability and love, Klaus struggles with feelings of guilt and self-loathing, which prevent him from fully redeeming himself. He often sabotages his chances at redemption due to his deep-seated belief that he is unworthy of love and forgiveness. Klaus is an original Vampire with a dormant Werewolf side.
