The MacManus twins become vigilantes after a series of events that lead them to believe that the justice system is failing, and criminals are escaping punishment for their heinous acts. They take it upon themselves to rid Boston of these criminals by using deadly force, earning them the nickname "The Boondock Saints." The MacManus twins are deeply religious, and their actions are motivated by what they believe is God's will. They see themselves as instruments of divine justice, targeting those they deem wicked and evil.
