During Octane's early childhood, his biological father, Eduardo Silva, passed away. Octane's grandfather, Torres Silva, subsequently assumed his son's name and identity. Torres also took on the role of Octane's father. Under the name Eduardo Silva, Torres embarked on a successful campaign to become the head of the Syndicate Council. After growing too bored of his day to day life, Octane began to participate in death-defying Gauntlet games. He broke a world record by launching himself across the finish line using a grenade that blew both his legs off. doctors informed him that the damage done to his legs meant his daredevil days were over, but that didn’t sit right with Octane. He contacted Ajay ‘Lifeline’ Che and guilted her into forging an order to replace his legs with bionic ones. Now, able to fix his own legs, Octane found the next adrenaline rush, the Apex Games. Following Torres’ election, Octane confronted him alongside Ajay ‘Lifeline’ Che, presenting Eduardo's death certificate. Torres chose to disclose the truth to Octane, acknowledging that he was not his biological father but rather his abuelo. Lifeline was once one of Octane’s closest friends, however, after Lifeline learns that the funds from a large donation from the Frontier Corps had come from Eduardo and not Octane, she lashes out, declaring that there must be an ulterior motive to the donation and expressing frustration that Octane would allow him to get so close to the Frontier Corps' files. Che stated that Silva considers his son to be worthless, and Octane retorted with the insults Che has given him over the years - "baby," "screw up", "dead weight." He then lets slip in an insult that Che is simply jealous that his father loves him. Che began to leave in order to reveal the death certificate, but Octane stole it and destroyed it, declaring an end to their friendship. Octane is still bitter about the friendship ending, but doesn’t make the effort to make amends.
