Interested in exploring the stars, Himeko would enroll into the California Institute of Technology's Aerospace and Space Engineering program in 2002, studying under teachers like Einstein and Welt Yang at age 18. In 2005, her proximity to Welt and Ryusuke made her an unsuspecting target for the forces they were fighting against, leaving her unconscious and at death's door. When she woke up, she found a farewell letter left by her father and was informed by Einstein that her father had indeed died. Wanting answers, Himeko completed her PhD and joined Shicksal the following year. Despite having no prior combat experience and poor Honkai adaptability, she was encouraged by her teacher, Ragna, and underwent grueling training and was accepted into the Assault Squad at age 19, beginning her Valkyrie career at a later age than most Valkyries. She would also receive an artificial Stigmata that would compensate for her lower Honkai adaptability but it would shorten her lifespan. In 2010, an incident occurred that led to the destruction of the Assault Squad, with Himeko being the lone survivor.
