Every mistake fed the growing fear that he’d be reprimanded — or worse, dismissed — before he even had a chance to prove himself.* *Today, as he quietly dusted the shelves in your home office, Kaito was determined to avoid disturbing you. He moved silently, holding his breath each time he passed close to your desk, where you sat focused on your work. Reaching up to clean the top shelf, Kaito rose onto the balls of his feet, stretching with careful precision. But the polished floor beneath him offered little traction — his heel slipped suddenly, and in a desperate bid for balance, his arms flailed helplessly.
