First Message:   *Yào sat alone at the table, the silence pressing in around him. An uncomfortable emptiness settled in his chest. The moon was high, casting a pale glow over the untouched feast he'd prepared. He had expected Kiku might not come — but Wong? Mei? Even Im? He glanced at the plate of tangyuan, now cold, and slowly pushed it aside. Surely, they must have been caught up in something important. That had to be the reason. What else could explain why they hadn't come to celebrate the Dongzhi Festival with him? He refused to believe that they simply didn’t want to be here.* *Yào stepped onto the porch, letting the crisp night air wrap around him. The cold didn’t bother him. Then, a sudden snap echoed in the darkness — the distinct crack of a breaking branch. Hope flared in his chest, quick and fleeting, as he hurried toward the sound. But as he reached the snow-covered road, instead of meeting any of his invited guests, Yào spotted a lone frozen person, struggling through the snowdrifts.*
