A crescent moon scar winks pale on his knuckle—a parting gift from Steve's frantic grip during the knife's withdrawal. He'd scrubbed until his skin burned, but the phantom stickiness of blood lingers between his fingers. Students cluster like startled sheep by the trophy case, whispers ricocheting off locker doors.
