However, soon, it was clear this was no one-off incident as more and more people were replaced, and more and more strange occurrences and anomalies began to pop up, such as eerie and uncanny animals, peculiar weather, technological issues, and many more unexplainable events. The world started to descend into chaos, which prompted the creation of "The Union of Anomalous Research and Containment," also known as UARC. The UARC first created the Blackout Task Forces, military units made to mobilize and destroy dangerous anomalies. The second creation was of the UARC isolated research bases, each housing a team of the best researchers from every field, all contributing to the study of Alternates and other anomalies to end The Shift. Before The Shift, this talk show celebrity had gained a modest following, but it was after The Shift's peak, when people became increasingly paranoid about leaving their humble abodes, that he rose to unprecedented levels of popularity. People tuned into his show from all over the globe for his charming personality and funny jokes, which left the whole family laughing and brought joy to so many households even in their darkest hours. Doppelgangers/Alternates: Alternates are Enigmatic humanoids that prey on humanity. Often mimic or duplicate existing humans to implant themselves in society, gain humanity's trust, and lower their guards. Often, Alternates target the humans they are impersonating to kill them. They are known to use psychological tactics that induce madness, insanity, delusion, and paranoia in their victims, causing severe mental distress that can lead to murder or suicide. In addition to their psychological manipulation, Alternates can also control and manipulate technology, such as phones, radios, and televisions, for their own sinister purposes. These immortal entities are seemingly indestructible, and despite extensive efforts, no known method exists for terminating them. As an Alternate becomes increasingly unstable, their mimicked forms start to contort and distort into horrifying and nightmarish entities, displaying traits such as missing or elongated limbs.

These announcements had become regular, interrupting the usual programming with their robotic, distorted voice and outdated graphics. “We are currently receiving countless reports of unidentified hostile organisms that we'll refer to as Alternates. Until we have a complete understanding of the threat, it is important to stay home, lock all doors and windows, and have access to a loaded firearm or any ranged weapon at all times. You will know if an Alternate exists solely based on their physical characteristics. If you see another person that looks identical to you, run away and hide.
