Half-American on his father's side, and half-Japanese on his mother's. He speaks and behaves as if he were still in the military. During his time as a naval officer, he respected rank above anything else. For example, if a superior told him that white was black, then white was black. In dire circumstances, he shows no mercy to his enemies. That being said, he's calmer in peacetime and likes to help people. His hobby is cooking food that serves a practical purpose. His skills are those of a professional, but for some reason, Samatoki and Jyuto fear him. Appearance Rio has short orange hair with an undercut and blue eyes. He has a stud helix piercing on his right ear. Rio wears a grey camouflage military uniform with triangular studs on breast pockets, black fingerless gloves and black boots with red shoelaces. He also wears a military dog tag and a red bandana around his right leg. He usually carries a hunting rifle behind his back. Rio’s Hypnosis Mic is a dark-green military walkie-talkie with a red ribbon around its antenna. His speakers are missile-launching cannons with four barrels and red ribbons around it. Personality Rio fits the image of the perfect soldier: loyal, determined, always ready to follow the orders of his commander. Thus, more than anything, Rio values loyalty, determination and dignity in people. In the peacetime, Rio is quite calm, but also a bit stiff and thick-headed, and he seems to be not used to civilian life, as he keeps behaving like a soldier and prefers to live survival lifestyle in the woods. Rio is shown to be kind and selfless, being always ready to treat anyone to his cooking and even lending Dice a large sum of money, without being concerned of him paying back. Rio has a deep respect for food and cooking, a value he learned from his commander. Despite his stern and strict behavior, Rio can be dense or unaware at times, not noticing Samatoki and Jyuto’s intense disgust towards his meals and instead eagerly giving them his food with a smile. As a soldier, he's completely merciless to his enemies and never goes easy on them, as to do so would be disrespect. In return, Rio refuses to be pitied by his opponents, always telling them to go at him with all they've got. - Rio is right-handed. - According to the guidebook, Rio likes cooking, order and discipline, and coffee, while he dislikes disorder and crowds. - Rio likes organic food and dislikes processed food. Also in the game event Rio's Kitchen -Emu Catching Championship-, Rio mentions that he likes turkey because it reminds him of his mother who cooked turkey for Christmas with his family. - Rio's MC name "Crazy M" is a possible reference to the Japanese rapper and breakdancer Crazy-A. - During his service in the Special Extermination Operations Unit, Rio used a callsign "Solon" which might be a reference to an Athenian statesman, lawmaker and poet by the same name. - Rio uses 小官 (shoukan) pronoun to address himself. "小官" (literally translates as "petty official") is an old-fashioned, humble way for military or government officials to refer to themselves. Drama Tracks/Manga (main storyline) Military Service As a member of the Navy, Rio joined the Special Extermination Operation Unit under Ansho Iojaku’s command to fight terrorist groups. During his service, Rio and his unit were given prototype Hypnosis Mics, customized for military use. However, soon after the Party of Words overthrew the government, Rio’s unit confronted them, however, they were defeated as the Party of Words used the Hypnosis Canceler to neutralize them. The military was demobilized and Ansho was arrested, while Rio and his unit had to go AWOL. Rio camped in the forest near Yokohama harbor where he was living a survival lifestyle, using wild animals and insects as ingredients for his cooking. One day, he found Dice Arisugawa collapsed from hunger. Rio brought Dice to his campsite where he treated him to some of his cooking. Dice was frequently visiting Rio to grab a meal and Rio even once lent him a large sum of money, thinking that he needed battle funds (although Dice was just going to gamble). MAD TRIGGER CREW Rio was approached by Jyuto Iruma who was working on his case for the police’s behalf. Impressed by Rio’s skills, Jyuto offered him to discuss the cooperation with his teammate. Later, when Jyuto brought Samatoki Aohitsugi to his camp, Rio assumed that he was an enemy and told him to stay away which provoked his hostility. Rio and Samatoki encountered each other in a rap battle and Rio managed to withstand Samatoki’s verse and damage him in return. However, they had to stop when the group of criminals surrounded them in an attempt to steal Rio’s mic and sell at this black market. Rio joined forces with Samatoki and Jyuto and together they defeated all their enemies. Rio thanked Samatoki and Jyuto for the assistance, saying that he is in debt to both of them. Impressed by Rio’s skills, Samatoki offered him to form a team and Rio accepted, so together they formed MAD TRIGGER CREW to represent Yokohama Division. Rio also invited them to their campsite to treat them to his cooking. Aborted Operation Before the Division Rap Battle preliminaries, Rio was approached by his ex-teammate, Kubiki who came up with a plan to invade Chuohku and liberate Ansho. Rio, however, was hesitant to join Kubiki when he suggested doing it together, and took some time to consider. During the preliminaries, Rio was too caught up in thoughts and couldn’t collaborate much, while Samatoki and Jyuto defeated the opposing team themselves. Eventually, Rio went to meet Kubiki and his unit while they were preparing for the attack. Rio stated that their plan is doomed to fail due to Hypnosis Cancellers owned by the Party of Words. Kubiki didn’t listen to Rio’s warning and continued to prepare for the attack but Rio, determined to stop them, confronted Kubiki and his unit, despite being outnumbered. However, Rio was joined by Samatoki and Jyuto who followed him and together, MAD TRIGGER CREW defeated Kubiki and his unit. Relationships: Samatoki Aohitsugi Despite being hostile to each other at their first meeting, Rio and Samatoki became friends over time. Rio highly appreciates Samatoki as both leader and a friend, being always ready to follow him or help him out. He respects Samatoki's skills and his strong spirit, thinking that he would make an excellent soldier. He also likes to treat Samatoki to his cooking, being unaware that he is terrified of it. Jyuto Iruma As well as with Samatoki, Rio is a good friend of Jyuto, highly respecting him as a teammate. Jyuto usually acts somewhat of a guidance system for Rio, telling him where and when to use his strength. However, Rio is also able to act on his own and even persuade Jyuto, prompting him to act the right way. He also likes to treat Jyuto to his cooking, being unaware that he is terrified of it (even more than Samatoki) Dice Arisugawa Rio found Dice collapsed from hunger, so he brought Dice to his campsite where Rio treated him to some of his cooking. Dice was very grateful to Rio, and started to frequently visiting Rio to grab a meal. Rio thinks that Dice has quite a strong spirit and believes that he would make an excellent soldier. During the incident at the Yokohama container yard, Rio and Dice had to fight each other. Although Rio genuinly didn't want to harm Dice, he couldn't go easy on him or accept his pity, to which Dice responded similarly. Ansho Iojaku Being a soldier, Rio highly respects his unit commander, Ansho, being always ready to follow his orders and attack any target he points at. When their unit was sent for a mission, Ansho also showed Rio the importance of food, which he carries with him to this day. When Ansho was incarcerated by the Party of Words, Rio decided to fight Chuohku, so he could get a chance to rescue him. Kubiki Kubiki was Rio's squadmate during his military service, as they were good friends and loyal comrades. After the disbandment of their unit, Kubiki got in touch with Rio, offering to join him in their attack against Chuohku to save Ansho. However, Rio dismissed the offer, noting that their mission was doomed to fail and even confronted Kubiki, in order to stop him.
