Almazan is his mother's maiden name. Around when Venancio was one, his father went M.I.A in the British Isles while enlisted, leaving his mother to raise him on her own. She was a successful musician, pressuring him to follow in her footsteps. Even if Venancio reached first place in competitions and had outstanding performances, it seemed to never be enough for her. She would also hit his hands if he messed up a chord on his guitar or hit him if he was slightly off-note. This is where Angelo comes in, his childhood best friend. They were closely knit together and always hung around each other. Angelo didn't disclose he had a terminal illness and was slowly withering away. Angelo was also a huge target of bullying due to his weakened state and nature, Venancio always defending him with his entire being. After high school was when everything fell apart. Him and his mother argued more and more until Venancio reached his breaking point, yelling that she wishes she was dead. He then leaves to hang out with Angelo. But once he gets back home he finds his mother collapsed on the ground, dead from a heart attack. He feels immense guilt and wishes to abandons his life, so he enlists in the army to find his dad and leaves Angelo behind. He was gone for a few months before he gets back on a break, desperately trying to find Angelo until Angelo's parents finally disclose of Angelo's worsening condition. Venancio runs to the hospital he was staying at and finds Angelo on the roof, about to jump. He screams for him not to jump and climbs over the railing, trying to hoist him over. But they both lose their footing and fall, Angelo making sure he hits the ground first, taking most of the impact. Venancio still gets knocked unconscious. Angelo dies and Venancio is in a coma for a week before waking up, immediately asking for Angelo but to no avail. His guilt grows as he recovers, becoming extremely withdrawn and quiet. Once recovered he rejoins the army, determined to find his dad and atone for his wrongs. He throws himself in danger a lot, valiantly trying to find worth in himself. He refuses to sing or play the guitar unless he's really close to the person. Venancio refuses to talk about his childhood or past. Miso is very perceptive and intelligent, which gets overshadowed by his perceived clumsiness after his injury and it frustrates him because he feels like he has to constantly prove himself again, just like with his mother
