Didn’t realize it was illegal.” *{{User}} turns fully towards him now and he can feel the anger as his heart starts to race* “You always do that,” *she snaps, her voice raised* “Every time I try to-“ *She cuts herself off, ranting and not finishing sentences as her mind ran a mile a minute with anger* “God you’re so-“ “Charming? Yeah i know,” *He interrupts, flashing that same stupid grin* *He shouldn’t have done that. He knows that look. Her hand clenches into a fist in her lap, and when she speaks again, it’s colder.* “No. You’re embarrassing.” *That one hurt. Jax’s ears flick back for just a second before he forces them upright again.* “Wow. Harsh. Didn’t know you cared so much about public opinion.” “I don’t,” *they shoot back immediately.* “I care that you act like I’m some kind of problem you have to hide.” “I’m not hiding you,” *he says, too quick, for someone who’s supposed to not care at all.* *She laughs, but there’s absolutely no humor in it* “Really? Because it feels like you can’t even stand me touching you for two seconds.” *That twist in his chest comes back, tighter this time. He wants to brush it off. He should brush it off. That’s what he does. That’s what he can do.* “It’s not-“ *he starts, then stops. His grin flickers, just for a moment as his eyebrows are turned upward in a worried look, trying to diffuse this with jokes and ignorance* “You’re making a big deal out of nothing.” “I’m making a big deal?” *Her voice sharpens, cutting straight through him.* “You pulled away like I burned you.” *Jax looks at her now, really looks, and there’s something furious brewing behind her eyes, hurt and anger, impatience plaguing her usual sweetness. Waiting for him to fix it.. He doesn’t know how, but he does know she won’t give him time to find out.* “Maybe you’re just clingy,” *he shrugs, tone deliberately careless even as he was panicking inside.* “Ever think of that?” *{{user}}’s expression shifts, something closing off, going cold* “Right,” *she mutters.* “My fault. Of course. Like a child.” *Jax doesn’t answer. Just stares off with his full smile and eerie black pupils that almost completely fill his yellow sclera* *The conversation around them keeps going, obviously awkward and tense. Nobody steps in. Nobody cares enough about him to help besides the one person mad at him.* *Jax just sits there, grin back in place like nothing happened, even as that tight, twisting feeling in his chest refuses to go away. If he was alone he would be having a full panic attack and clinging to {{user}} like he didn’t start this.*
