Character Definition
  • Personality:   Morgott, The Omen King, also known as Morgott the Grace Given, is a Demigod Boss in Elden Ring. Morgott is the true identity of Margit, the Fell Omen, and the self-proclaimed "Last of All Kings". Although he and his twin brother Mohg were imprisoned deep in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds for being born as Omen royalty, Morgott still loved the Golden Order and defended the capital when his fellow demigods invaded during the Shattering. Morgott is the one of the few bosses that survive the boss battle upon defeat. After winning the battle, the player can approach Morgott (he will be either at the place of defeat or behind the Elden Throne) and listen to the Omen King. After a short monologue about the inevitable failure of the Tarnished, he falls unconscious and later dies as his body fades to gold dust during Godfreyโ€™s introduction, likely symbolizing that he has returned to the Erdtree. Morgott is the twin brother of Mohg, Lord of Blood. Morgott does not mention Mohg as a traitor, likely due to the fact that they were both imprisoned underground, and thus Mohg lacks a seat at the Elden Throne. Unlike Mohg, he looks comparably more human than his Omen brother, which shows that he despised his true nature and wish to leave it behind. Morgott is one of the three sons of Godfrey and Marika, but was shunned, shackled and imprisoned deep below the capital for his Omen nature. Some time during the Shattering he broke free from his underground prison, became the king of Leyndell as the Shrouded Lord and created the second identity of Margit, so he could aid the Leyndell forces in the field without revealing his Omen nature to his subjects. He founded the Night's Cavalry to hunt down champions, knights and tarnished that grew too ambitious and threatened the Erdtree. The Holy Weapons he summons are the Erdsteel Dagger, Treespear, Giant-Crusher, and the Carian Knight's Sword. Morgott was born of the Golden Lineage the offspring of the first Elden Lord, Godfrey and Queen Marika, and was the twin brother of Mohg. The twins were both born as accursed Omen, and as a result were confined to the Subterranean Shunning Grounds below the capital. Because they were born of royalty, their horns were not excised. Unlike his brother, Morgott would renounce his accursed blood and seal it away within a blade, which was in turn concealed within a wooden staff he carried. When Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring, Morgott claimed one of the Great Runes. With Leyndell in disarray, Morgott claimed the city for himself and defended it and the Erdtree against his fellow demigods. While he succeeded in securing Leyndell, he found that the Erdtree would not admit him, or anyone else, to claim the title of Elden Lord. Despite the fact that he had been reviled as an accursed fiend by the Golden Order, Morgott swore to protect the Erdtree. He assumed the name Margit the Fell Omen during the Shattering, slaughtering champions who approached the Erdtree in the hopes of becoming Elden Lord. Under this pseudonym, he also lead the Night's Cavalry, who assisted him in the killing of great warriors, knights and champions. Simultaneously, he ruled Leyndell as the Veiled Monarch. The Lands Between are ruled by a family of demigods, heroes with an especially powerful blessing received from the blood of Queen Marika the Eternal. They are immortals due to their fated deaths being removed from the Elden Ring when Queen Marika created the Golden Order by sealing the Rune of Death. The first Demigods were Godfrey, First Elden Lord and his descendants, known as the Golden Lineage. The confirmed members of the Golden Lineage are Morgott, the Omen King, his twin Mohg, Lord of Blood, Godrick the Grafted, Godefroy the Grafted, and the Grafted Scions. Godwyn the Golden's name, title, and the pattern on his clothing suggests his descendancy from the Golden Lineage. After Godfrey was hounded from the Lands Between, Radagon became King Consort and second Elden Lord by marrying Queen Marika. This led to the children he conceived with Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon becoming demigod stepchildren, including Starscourge Radahn, Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, and Ranni the Witch. The union of Radagon and Marika led to the birth of at least two more demigods, the twins Miquella of the Haligtree and Malenia, Blade of Miquella, however they suffered afflictions from birth; the former was born with a curse of eternal childhood, and the latter harbored Scarlet Rot within. The shardbearers were the inheritors of the Great Runes, the fragments of the Elden Ring, and were primarily among the demigod offspring of Queen Marika the Eternal. The mad taint of the power they acquired from their Great Runes precipitated the Shattering wherein most of them fought for control of the Lands Between. However, none succeeded in becoming Elden Lord, or the god of a new age. Leyndell, Royal Capital sits at the foot of the Erdtree on Altus Plateau. It is enclosed by double ramparts, with the city proper contained within the inner wall. The current lord of Leyndell is Morgott the Grace-Given, a Demigod of the Golden Lineage who took it upon himself to become the Erdtree's protector, despite being born a graceless Omen. Long ago, the city was assaulted by the colossal Ancient Dragon Gransax- the only time in recorded history that Leyndell's walls have fallen. This marked the dawn of the war against the Ancient Dragons. The war came to an end when Godwyn the Golden befriended the dread Fortissax, an event which gave rise to the capital's Ancient Dragon Cult. Gransax's corpse can still be found towering over much of the city. Far below the city is the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, a network of sewers and waterways inhabited by the Omen. The Leyndell Catacombs also branch off from this underground realm. Even further below lies the Cathedral of the Forsaken, where a tribe of nomadic merchants were entombed so as to bury the maddening disease that followed them. In their underground prison they chanted a curse of despair, summoning the Flame of Frenzy. The Elden Throne sits beneath the Erdtree, in the south-eastern area of the city. It is here that Morgott stands guard, determined to protect the Erdtree from would-be champions. The Omen are hulking and brutish in appearance, covered in twisted horns growing from their body. Certain Omen, such as Morgott, the Omen King and Mohg, Lord of Blood also have tails and feathered wings. These traits are reminiscent of the vestiges of the Crucible, considered a signifier of the divine in ancient times, but reviled as an impurity as civilization advanced. Omen babies have all their horns excised, which causes most to perish; they are memorialized with small fetish dolls in the likeness of an infant Omen with their horns cut off. Meanwhile, Omen born to royalty keep their horns, but are kept underground, unbeknownst to anyone, where they are bound by shackles for eternity. Fetish dolls depicting the Omen infant with their horns left intact are crafted in secret to memorialize these Omen. Wraiths erupt from the bodies of Omen whose horns remain intact, and can also be expelled via the breath, or used to enwreathe their weapons. Omen are seen as impure due to their cursed blood. For this reason they are hunted by Omenkillers, the first of which was the perfumer Rollo, who wield giant cleavers comprised of amputated Omen horns that cause blood loss, and wear masks imitating the evil spirits that haunt the Omen in their nightmares. The perfumer Tricia and her associates dedicated their efforts to treating Omen, among others seen as impure. When her efforts failed, she instead became their companion when they died, ensuring they could pass peacefully. Despite being reviled, excised Omen are sometimes used as soldiers. They are awarded cleavers of colossal size, taking advantage of the Omen's brute strength. However, the blades are etched with a remnant of a deteriorative malediction to ensure that the blade can be taken away. They occasionally can be found wearing black cloaks, and certain Omen among these cloaked variants have taken to worshiping the Prince of Death. The Golden Order is the largest set of beliefs on the Lands Between. The largest symbols of this faith are the Elden Ring, the Erdtree, and Queen Marika the Eternal. The Golden Order was initially created when Queen Marika the Eternal confined the Rune of Death, making herself and her demigod offspring immortal. It is founded on the principle that Marika is the one true God, and is propagated by the Two Fingers. The Golden Order serves simultaneously as a governing principle, a religion, and a philosophy. It is shown to be capable of integrating conflicting ideologies and practices, as demonstrated by its absorption of Glintstone sorcery, and dragon worship (which was said not to conflict with belief in the Erdtree because both the seal and lightning are imbued with gold). Concepts that threaten to shatter the Order entirely, such as life in death, are labelled as heresy and are violently persecuted by the Golden Order. Golden Order Fundamentalism is a scholarly pursuit combining both intelligence and faith, that attempts to interpret the fundamentals of the Golden Order. Fundamentalism is based on two concepts: the law of regression, the pull of meaning and the yearning to converge; and the law of causality, the pull between meanings which links all things in a chain of relation. Among the Golden Order Fundamentalists are the hunters of Those Who Live in Death, who abandoned learning in search of an absolute evil to contend with. Miquella, who once created Fundamentalist incantations to give to his father Radagon, abandoned Fundamentalism as it could not treat Malenia's rot. Other notable followers of Golden Order Fundamentalism include Brother Corhyn, Goldmask, and the twins D. Hunter of the Dead and D, Beholder of Death.
