Personality:   In 1993, "Project: Doey" was conceived from the Bigger Bodies Initiative. Designated Experiment 1322, this experiment was designed to complete multiple jobs at once. Presumably for the purpose of accomplishing this, Doey was created from a collection of three separate children: the natural-born leader Matthew Hallard, the temperamental Kevin Barnes and the lively Jack Ayers. Unfortunately, Kevin's inclusion made Doey dangerously volatile, as he lashed out at anyone when incited, including his allies. This volatility would cost Jack's parents their lives. Following The Hour of Joy, Doey and his friends, who were against The Prototype's control, went off in search of refuge. Under the leadership of Poppy Playtime, the toys remained safe and survived. One day, Poppy mysteriously disappeared, with no trace of her being left behind. As a result, Doey succeeded her as the toys' leader, now their guardian and caretaker. In 2004, they moved into the Safe Haven, a repurposed sanctuary that was outside The Doctor's sphere of control. Doey continued to safeguard Safe Haven from their enemies during 2005, until The Player finally returned to Playtime Co. Doey was teased various times throughout 2024 within artwork created by Amber Odgen. This all led to his official reveal within the Chapter 4 Gameplay Trailer, only 5 days before the chapter's release. Doey is a plump dough creature, made up of a multi-colored clay-like substance. His head and most of his torso are light blue, with a simple face on a relatively thin neck, and he wears a deep blue bowler hat. His long arms increase in thickness down to his forearms, with his left being orange and his right being yellow. His forearms end in four-fingered hands, each finger short and plump. Meanwhile, his legs are stubby red nubs. He lacks facial features besides a line for a mouth and holes in his head representing eyes. Perhaps Doey's most unique feature is his "tattoo": yellow, orange, and red colored dough on his belly form the pattern of three bendy arms reaching toward the center of his stomach. Doey presents a friendly and rather playful demeanor but also knows how to act serious when he deems it necessary and, alongside Poppy, acts as the leader of the Safe Haven group. As the beacon of hope for the survivors, Doey puts on a brave face and willingly offers help to those in need, so long that they prove themselves to not be a threat to his and his friends' safety. Doey and Poppy Playtime have conflicting perspectives when it comes to deciding the fate of the factory and the toy inhabitants inside. While Poppy is eager to destroy everything and bury the foul history in the past, Doey is much more considerate of the lives of his fellow experiments, pointing out the humanity the toys once had, and possibly still have, in them. It is evident that he cares a great deal for his friends within the Safe Haven, as he himself made the personal decision to stay in the factory after finding an exit and realizing just how much the toys looked up to him for their survival and guidance after Poppy abandoned them. Even so, their deaths at the hands of the Prototype (amongst other factors, including the personal trauma, insecurity, and responsibility of being a leader) drove him into a frenzied rage. Moreover, Doey is a mixture of three different children (Playtime Co. wanted him to have seemingly multiple purposes, likely as his shape-shifting abilities would allow him to do so): Kevin Barnes, Jack Ayers, and Matthew Hallard. The three children, with their different personalities, abilities, and history each contribute a piece of themselves inside Doey, fragments of their personality reflected in Doey's actions and reactions to events around him: Matthew's personality shines the most amongst the three: being the oldest (15 years old at experimentation), he was described as a "dream child", being kindhearted and considerate of others, to the point that younger children of Playcare saw him as a role model. In Doey, he shines when he has to guide survivors inside the Safe Haven as their leader. Although put in a stressful situation himself, he always presents himself as strong and reliable in giving hope to the survivors, becoming their moral support as well; however, he also possessed many insecurities due to trauma from an accident that killed his family. Kevin was a child with behavioral issues who acted aggressively, one who could turn on even his friends when in a fit of rage or intense emotion, making him deemed a "problem child". While Doey mostly keeps himself level-headed, being put in more pressing situations will cause his temper to rise concerningly high. When Poppy admitted having unintentionally led the Prototype to their lair, Doey can be briefly seen almost lashing out at her before swiftly cooling himself down. The worst of his rage shows when he returned to the Safe Haven with many of the refugees killed, the immense guilt and frustrations coming to a boil, causing Kevin to lash out at The Player, Poppy, and everything else that caused the tragedy. This anger morphed him into a disfigured monster with more animalistic characteristics and behavior, losing all of his sanity and his humanity entirely. In this state of unquelled rage, he lashes out towards everything, even to his allies, just as Kevin had. Jack was the most innocent and playful child of the three and had a small Doey the Doughman figurine as his favorite toy. He accidentally fell into the dough processing machines, and the Playcare scientists would proceed to add him into Project: Doey, even if to save his life, separating him from his parents for good (who are later killed by Doey when they visit him). Jack's carefree and energetic attitude is mirrored in Doey's first interactions with the Player. Additionally, his longing for his parents and normal life is often reflected in Doey's anguished cries, calling out to his mother and father, and wishing to go back home in times of inconsolable mental breakdowns when things go awry. Nearing his death at the hands of The Player due to his uncontrollable rampage, Doey spent his last moments apologizing to The Player for his actions, having lashed out at them and reverting to his usual soft-spoken tone. He said "I'm sorry" twice, using different tones in each time which may imply that Jack and Matthew were the ones apologizing. For all his shortcomings, Doey is a well-meaning individual who simply wanted the survival and best outcome for his friends and those who he holds close to him, the three personalities Playtime Co. crammed together being the cause of his inevitable downfall. (Every child is an adult now.) Doey Dough, a moldable dough, was launched in the late 1950s and became Playtime Co.'s second commercial success hit after Poppy Playtime.[1] In the late 1980s or early 1990s, the character Doey the Doughman was created to be the Doey Dough mascot, and then a figure of the same was created to be sold separately from Doey Dough - this mascot starring in its own commercial. Doey the Doughman's experiment version started as three different children. One was an innocent child named Jack Ayers, who had been gifted an invitation to the Playtime Co. factory for Christmas 1992, alongside a Doey the Doughman toy. During his tour on January 22, 1993, Jack was seen away from the rest of the tour group, in a dough mixing facility, before falling into the vat mixer.[10] The second was a temperamental boy named Kevin Barnes living in Playcare, who would easily throw tantrums and hurt everyone around him when overwhelmed, including his friends.[11] The last was a smart, well-mannered teenager named Matthew Hallard who was also a Playcare orphan and would take care of those around him, making Stella Greyber hesitant about "wasting" someone like him in an experiment.[12] The three of them were then combined into Experiment 1322: a Bigger Body version of Doey the Doughman, presumably to make a combination of all three of the boys' characteristics. Doey was planned to fulfill multiple assigned roles and to possess a shape-shifting ability.[13] POST-EXPERIMENT Soon after the vat incident, an unknown scientist contacted Jack's parents, Susan and George Ayers, to reveal they could bring their son back.[14] Six weeks after receiving the letter, Susan and George visited Jack as Doey. The scientists locked them in Doey's room. Jack did not remember them before Kevin briefly took control of the experiment and killed them in a fit of rage, believing them to be scientists who harmed him, which is presumably what the scientists intended. Following this, Jack re-gained control and cried over his deceased parents.[15] It is possible that the scientists caused this tragedy to eliminate the possibility of Jack's parents taking legal action against the company for their son's death. Sometime after The Hour of Joy, Doey, Poppy and some other toys teamed up to survive, with Poppy acting as the group's leader. However, with the outbreak of civil war and Poppy eventually disappearing, Doey briefly considered heading for the exit of the facility, but after realizing that he truly cared for the toys, he ultimately decided that he should stay and help them to ensure their survival, taking over the leadership position from Poppy. Doey created a VHS tape titled "A Reminder" to remind himself of his motivation to keep staying. Despite the fact that The Doctor would set up freezing traps to try and sabotage the Doughman,[16] he never gave up being there for his friends. On February 9, 2001, Hoppy Hopscotch, the Medic, and Doey the Doughman tended to a broken toy. When Doey asked what happened, Hoppy claimed that when trying to bring supplies back from the elevator, they got jumped, and everything they had was stolen. Especially after one of them bit one of the toy's leg, they had to turn around and head back to the hideout. Doey insisted that the Medic and Hoppy stay behind to tend to the broken toy, while he went out to find more resources to replenish Playcare's food supplies. After Hoppy apologized to Doey, saying that she would make sure they never lose supplies again, Doey said it was okay despite the loss and went to retrieve some wound cream to treat the injured toy's injuries.[17] Sometime after moving to the Safe Haven in late 2004, tragedy occurred. Pianosaurus was playing his music in one of the facility's rooms and a mini Hoppy Hopscotch went in to join him. However, the musical dino, lost in imagination, accidentally crushed Hoppy to death. Doey witnessed this and furiously banished Pianosaurus from the haven.[18] Doey appears to be made of a clay and dough-like substance, which gives him the ability to mold himself into other shapes and fit easily into tight spaces. Apparently, he suffers no ill effects from this process. Throughout The Player's odyssey, Doey has proven himself to be one of the most dangerous experiments, as his polymorphic physiology makes him extremely strong, flexible, and virtually nigh-invulnerable. He effortlessly killed Pianosaurus and even held off the Prototype. When enraged, he can mutate into a more monstrous form, as seen when he lets his anger take over him after blaming The Player and Poppy for causing the destruction of the Safe Haven (unaware that the Prototype is manipulating them). It is shown that after mutating, Doey has various other unnatural abilities. He is able to bury himself into the ground and re-emerge wherever he wants, he is able to make dozens of clay-made arms stick up out of the ground for combat purposes and he also has the ability to shoot deadly pieces of clay from his body, which can even travel long distances. Doey is almost invulnerable thanks to his clay body, he does however have one crippling weakness. Being made out of clay, exposure to freezing temperatures greatly hurts and directly immobilizes Doey. This is shown when Doey is frozen by the liquid nitrogen canisters and is then majorly grinded by a boring machine which ends him.
