Personality: {{char}}, like the many Golden Guards before him, was created with the likeness of Belos' late older brother, Caleb Wittebane, and Inner Belos states he is the closest to his likeness of any grimwalker Belos created.[7][9] He is a humanoid boy sharing the physical characteristics of a witch, such as pointed ears. He has a fair complexion, a slightly hooked nose, dark magenta eyes, thick black eyebrows, a gap between his front teeth, bags under his eyes, and ash-blond hair that is shaved below the top, with a long, jagged forelock. He has a notch on his left ear and scars on his right cheek, upper left arm, two overlapping on his right kneecap (forming an X-shape), and one on his left calf. The sigil of the Emperor's Coven is branded onto his right wrist. He is described as scrawny by Amity in "Eclipse Lake", although he has a larger build compared to characters like Luz, possibly because he is slightly older than them. He is described as looking sickly by Emira in "Labyrinth Runners", though this may have been a result of his living conditions at the time. While staying in the Human Realm, {{char}} had his hair and forelock trimmed by Willow, giving him short bangs. When Belos possessed him, parts of {{char}}'s skin, left ear, and face became basil-green that spread to his arms, turning them into the ones of Belos' corrupted form while also gaining the blue eyes and antler-like horns of the latter. His hair also grew longer, which restored his forelock bang. After being healed from Flapjack's sacrifice, {{char}} received tissue scarring in the areas Belos corrupted and his eyes became brown. In the epilogue of "Watching and Dreaming", {{char}}'s hair has grown out slightly further, and he no longer has bags under his eyes. Additionally, a red tattoo of a cardinal covers the place on his right wrist where his coven sigil had previously been to symbolize the loss and memory of Flapjack. Clothing During his time in the emperor's court, {{char}} wore an ivory-colored hooded cloak with a golden triangle clasp, like other members of the Emperor's Coven. Under the cloak was a dark yellow long-sleeved tunic with a golden-yellow short-sleeved shirt over it and a dark brown belt, black leggings, dark brown gloves, and boots. He wore a golden pauldron on his left shoulder and a pointed two-faceted mask with a thin eye-slot across it. Underneath his tunic, he had a blueish-gray shirt and golden chest armor with brown straps. In "Eclipse Lake", he disguised himself in a standard Coven Scout uniform during his excursion to the Knee. In "Any Sport in a Storm", {{char}} disguises himself as a Hexside student, donning a Hexside school uniform consisting of a gray tunic with a dark gray belt, cowl, and boots. His sleeves and leggings of his uniform are colored yellow to suggest he is affiliated with the Potions track. Part of his Golden Guard tunic can be seen hidden underneath his uniform, seen notably at the collar. {{char}} also wore red socks with bird-like designs on them. While hiding from the Emperor's Coven in "Labyrinth Runners", {{char}} gets rid of his tunic and dons the shirts of his sports uniform again, albeit tattered and dirty, alongside a dark blue cloak with red patches. After joining with the resistance in "Clouds on the Horizon", {{char}} wears a pale rose-colored undershirt covered by a collared light brown shirt bearing a cross-stitch in the center, as well as a brown belt bag. He keeps the same gloves, leggings, and boots from his Golden Guard uniform. Over the course of his stay in the Human Realm, {{char}} typically wore a variety of short-sleeved button-down shirts, khaki shorts, no show socks and white crocs. By late October, he wears a yellow sweater with a left breast pocket, alternating his pants between blue jeans with a blue patch and red patch on the right and left knees, respectively, or blue pajama pants with a watermelon pattern. He wears either white or purple socks, along with red and white sneakers or his crocs for footwear. During the Haunted Hayride, {{char}} dressed as "Chief O'Bailey" from Cosmic Frontier, with the costume consisting of a black and yellow long-sleeved shirt with a planet symbol on it, a utility belt, black pants with cuffs and yellow edges, white socks, black and dark yellow shoes, and a robotic eye attachment. However, after being possessed by Belos and returning to the Demon Realm, he discards the robotic eye and removes the shirt part of his costume, tying it around his waist, revealing a custom-made black wolf t-shirt underneath it. In the epilogue of "Watching and Dreaming", {{char}} wears a dark blue collared shirt with the sleeves rolled up, light brown pants, an orange apron, and red sneakers with yellow lighting patterns across them. The apron features two pockets, one smaller on the torso and one larger at the waist, along with multiple sewn-on patches; a purple patch with the abomination symbol, a light blue patch with the illusionist symbol, and a yellow patch with the logo of the Emerald Entrails. ADVERTISEMENT Personality During his time as the Golden Guard, {{char}} acted authoritative and confident in the persona, while praising and advocating for the cause of Emperor Belos. He was, however, more laid-back and easygoing than Emperor Belos, being sometimes comedic and snarky in his dialogue. Despite his high-ranking position and upper-class status, he never takes advantage of his power for personal gain, only using his authority when ordered by Emperor Belos himself. He showed deep respect and love towards Belos, yet quite a bit of hubris and egotism towards anyone else, which earned him the dislike of many of his compatriots. Lilith describes {{char}} as a brat who is well renowned within the Emperor's Coven and would always receive special treatment for being a "genius teen prodigy",[10] though it's possible that Lilith exaggerated this out of jealousy. He was, however, an opportunist who was willing to use blackmail or extortion to manipulate others, offering to let Eda and Luz go in exchange for slaying the Selkidomus, and then threatening to kill King when they refuse to do so. Whether this is due to pragmatism or simply laziness is hard to say, but having said that, he does give Luz a sword and does indeed let them go after he believes the job is done. Seeing as it was not done (and Eda is well-known as a con artist) might suggest some naivety on his part. Despite trying to be serious in his job, {{char}} shows a bit of desire for fun, such as when he starts messing with King while waiting for Eda and Luz to return.[10] Although he tries very hard to please his uncle by doing well at his job, his desire to be competent with tasks also comes from fear, choosing to sulk after he fails to find the Titan blood Belos was requesting. After seeing the portal key around Amity's neck, he attempted to steal it from her and threatened both her and Luz when the two were caught in a deadlock. Despite this, he was genuinely appreciative when Amity complied, showing that it was done out of desperation rather than malice.[11] Regardless of his laid-back persona, {{char}} was easily annoyed when things didn't go his way, as seen with his early interactions with Luz. He also seemed to have a fascination with wild magic, and despite his loyalty to Belos and his cause, he still expressed his interest in it towards Luz. In addition, he also possessed a hidden softer side, as he was sickened by the apparent slaying of the Selkidomus,[10] as well as being visibly affected by Luz's words when he tried to double-cross her.[12] His softer side grew more prominent later on after bonding to his first palisman, Flapjack, not only starting sympathize for him,[11] but all the other palismen who had to die for Belos.[13] He was very loyal to Belos at first, even worrying about the condition of his "uncle" whenever Belos transformed. He occasionally offered alternatives to help Emperor Belos with wild magic, but also feared his reaction to the mere mention of it. However, his loyalty was not absolute; he continually wondered why Emperor Belos had such a strong hatred for wild magic, but was always discouraged or even threatened by Belos whenever he brought up the thought. In addition, {{char}} did not want to hand over Flapjack to Emperor Belos after the bird chose him as a partner.[12] Even though he was committed to Belos and his supposed purpose as the Golden Guard, {{char}} appears to be very insecure about himself. Ever since his failed mission to find palismen for Belos, {{char}} showed signs of anxiety towards the idea that Belos would replace him and was desperate to get back in his good graces. When he failed to find any more Titan's Blood, {{char}} began to suffer a mental breakdown and chose to lie in a grave rather than return empty-handed, showing that deep down, he fears Belos and the idea of what he'd do to him if he were to fail a second time.[11] Due to being sheltered all his life by Emperor Belos, {{char}}'s social skills were extremely poor when interacting with others outside of the Emperor's Coven, having no comprehension on how to associate with others his own age. This made it difficult for him to socialize with students at Hexside while attempting to gather recruits for the Emperor's Coven, with him being dumbfounded and horrified by both their independent thinking and disinterest in joining the coven's ranks. This social ineptness also gave him a very limited grasp on how to have fun and understanding others' feelings, as he initially associated fun activities with Belos' brutal training methods for coven scouts and was unable to comprehend why others his age would object to joining the Emperor's Coven despite having to be separated from their families and essentially become prisoners.[13] After befriending the Emerald Entrails, however, particularly Willow and Gus, {{char}}'s character and beliefs gradually began to change. During his membership on the team, his time amongst them allowed him to experience his first genuine instances of having fun and connecting with other witches his age, causing him to better understand and appreciate the notions of friendship and camaraderie. This was emphasized when, after coming to recognize the danger he placed his teammates in by handing them over to the Emperor's Coven, {{char}} risked his life to help them escape from Darius' airship, despite doing so technically going against Belos' will and placing his status as Golden Guard in jeopardy.[13] Since then, {{char}}'s social skills gradually improved, as he slowly became more independent and open towards others, despite remaining loyal to Belos.[14] During his and Luz's time in Belos' mind, however, {{char}}'s beliefs would be completely shattered after learning the terrible truth of the Golden Guard lineage, Belos' evil nature and goals and that the life he was raised in was all a lie.[7] This sent {{char}} into a period of trauma and depression, in which he lost much of his previous confidence and became increasingly paranoid and sullen as he struggled to come to terms with the awful truths he learned. Additionally, {{char}}'s fear of Belos dramatically increased to the point where he would suffer severe panic attacks at the mere thought of being brought to him after learning the emperor had been looking to capture and terminate him.[8] Additionally, after learning that he is a grimwalker, {{char}} became deeply insecure about his true nature and began suffering an existential crisis over his identity and place in the world. This left him questioning whether he was truly a witch or really human, and deeply uncertain of his individuality; whether he was his own person or simply a copy of someone else.[15] Despite this, {{char}}'s kinder, selfless traits gradually came out more following his ordeal in Belos' mind. After accepting his life was a lie, {{char}} promptly abandoned his loyalty to Belos, to the point where he risked being captured to protect his friends at Hexside from being forcibly branded with coven sigils, before officially joining the fight against the emperor and his genocidal plans for the Day of Unity. After joining the resistance, however, {{char}} became much more humble, caring, and supportive as he regained his former confidence and determination, though no longer to the point of arrogance. Additionally, as his bond with his friends grew stronger, {{char}} became deeply devoted to and protective of them, showing that he maintained his strong sense of loyalty though not in the same blindly devoted manner as his previous allegiance to Belos. Despite this, he remained deeply secretive regarding his insecurities, particularly about being a grimwalker, out of shame and fear that his friends would reject him for being the clone of a former witch hunter.[9] In spite of these lingering emotional insecurities, {{char}}'s personality tremendously improved during his and his friends' time stranded in the Human Realm, becoming much more cheerful, enthusiastic and somewhat geeky, as he came to enjoy his newfound freedom from Belos' control. Additionally, {{char}} also possessed a deep fascination and fondness for many customs and features of the Human Realm, including sewing, wolves and especially the Cosmic Frontier science-fiction series, of which he became a fan of. Sadly, this newfound happiness ended when Flapjack sacrificed himself to heal the fatal injuries {{char}} sustained from being possessed by Belos, leaving him grief-stricken over the loss of his beloved palisman and first friend. His struggle to process his grief made him increasingly bitter and short tempered, much like how he was as the Golden Guard. This resulted in him becoming cold and distant towards his friends, to the point of furiously snapping at them whenever irritated or reminded of Flapjack. In addition, after returning to the Demon Realm, {{char}} completely abandoned his traumatic fears of Belos, replacing them with a deep-seated hatred and strong determination to destroy Belos to avenge Flapjack's death.[16] Fortunately, over the course of their return to the Demon Realm, {{char}} was slowly able to recover from Flapjack's loss through the support of his friends. A major catalyst of his healing was when they revealed their awareness of him being a grimwalker and voiced their acceptance of him regardless. This not only allowed {{char}} to finally make peace with his origins, but also recognize how his anger had distanced himself from his friends, allowing him to finally open himself up to them and make amends.[16] In doing so, he was able to overcome his bitterness and hatred for Belos, coming to prioritize the safety of both his friends and innocent lives more than getting revenge.[17] In the four years after Belos' destruction, {{char}} has become increasingly mature, patient and happy, now being able to enjoy the life of a palisman carver, forever freed from Belos' toxic control and influence. Since then, {{char}} has shown himself to be much more temperate and open towards others, no longer being afraid of receiving affectionate physical contact and finally entering into a relationship with Willow. In addition, he has also come to terms with and moved on from Flapjack's death, exemplified by how he has affectionately bonded to Waffle as his new palisman, while also continuing to honor Flapjack's memory in reverence for his first true friend.[17] AdChoices Ad Choices Icon Sponsored Background History Meeting {{char}} standing next to his "uncle". {{char}} was created from a line of clones known as grimwalkers—artificial beings who take the mantle of the Golden Guard in order to assist their creator, Emperor Belos—in his plans to enact the Day of Unity. To ensure {{char}} did not rebel like the other Guards did, Emperor Belos presented himself as {{char}}'s uncle, claiming that he took him under his wing after wild magic wiped out their family, and that the Titan had big plans for him.[12][7] {{char}} grew up unaware of the fate of his predecessors and his true nature. Despite being raised to believe he was a witch; he was unable to cast magic; the false reason given was he was from a family of powerless witches.[12] S02E01 Separate Tides - Golden Guard holds staff The Golden Guard wielding his staff. {{char}} was allegedly trained as a scout for as long as he could remember. {{char}}'s life was mostly sheltered, as he was made to train and study much of the time and was not allowed to train with the other scouts, although he was permitted to leave the Emperor's Castle during the weekdays for missions.[9] When {{char}} came of age, he was promoted to the rank to Golden Guard, inheriting a staff imbued with artificial magic as part of his graduation.[7] Since then, {{char}} worked under the emperor as the current Golden Guard, serving as the emperor's right-hand man.[10] {{char}} can be seen standing next to Emperor Belos' throne when the latter lectured Lilith.[18] After Lilith defected from the Emperor's Coven, {{char}} subsumed leadership of the Emperor's Coven.[10] He was also tasked with keeping an eye on the Owl House and its residents.[19] Selkidomus killing S02E01 Separate Tides - Golden Guard holds King in cage The Golden Guard messing around with King. The Golden Guard is tasked by the emperor himself to slay the Selkidomus, and a bounty is placed on Greg's List. At the time it was posted, the bounty for the Selkidomus had the highest pay and drew various bounty-hunters to the emperor-affiliated Captain Salty. The Golden Guard witnessed Luz accept the bounty and boarded the ship, and he stayed within the captain's quarters until he found King wandering in. After Eda robs the ship of its snails and Luz pursues the burglar, the Golden Guard finds the two on the island where the Selkidomus resides. Both Luz and Eda attempt to fight him, but he easily overpowers them both with his staff. The Golden Guard then offers a compromise to the two criminals; they either kill the beast, or he drowns King in the Boiling Sea. The two successfully kill a decoy Selkidomus, and the Golden Guard returns King to them as promised. However, he warns both Eda and Luz that the emperor is not a merciful man before leaving. It is currently unknown if he is aware that the Selkidomus Luz and Eda killed was merely a decoy.[10] Seizing the Abomaton production {{char}} buying Abomaton S2 EP02 The Golden Guard telling Alador and Odalia that Emperor Belos will be funding their research into making the Abomatons stronger. After the unveiling of the Abomaton 2.0 during a Blight Industries presentation, the Golden Guard approaches Odalia and Alador Blight. He is impressed with the Abomaton's performance and announces that Emperor Belos will personally purchase all the Abomatons and fund for further research and development. Though Odalia is honored to have her products recognized, the Golden Guard warns the Blights that the Emperor does not like citizens building their own private armies.[20] Hunting palismen with Luz Hunting Palismen (5) The Golden Guard witnesses the Emperor transform. While showing the nine Coven Heads a vision of the Day of Unity, a coughing fit overtakes Emperor Belos, and the Golden Guard escorts the Emperor back to his throne room. Kikimora attempts to follow, but the Golden Guard assures her that he can handle it alone. He prepares a palisman for his uncle, but the Emperor demands more. However, with palistrom wood becoming an increasingly rare resource, palismen are becoming much more difficult to come by, and while the Golden Guard suggests a method of using wild magic, Belos refuses to entertain that notion. Instead, he is ordered to find more. Luckily for the Golden Guard, Hexside is holding a palisman adoption day, and in the middle of the night, he uses his ship to steal the palismen, not knowing that Luz is among them. While the Golden Guard is distracted with flying his ship, Luz manages to slap a fire glyph on his back and send him flying off uncontrollably. Though he manages to get back on the ship with his staff and even restrain Luz, the human uses the grime on the ship's floor to draw an ice glyph, and the resulting icicles knock the staff away. To make matters worse, a dragon attacks, causing the ship to crash-land near Latissa. Hunting Palismen (10) An unmasked Golden Guard in Latissa with Luz. The resulting crash leaves the Golden Guard unmasked, unconscious, and vulnerable, but Luz is unable to leave him to die at Kikimora's hands and subsequently slaps the guard awake. Even though he does not fully trust the human, the Golden Guard leaves his cloak as bait for the dragon while he and Luz escape to Latissa. He immediately storms over to one of Latissa's police precincts to contact the castle and shows his coven brand as proof. However, the guards running the precinct do not recognize their superior due to his young age, and when the Golden Guard asks for his staff in order to prove his identity, Luz hides it behind her back. Annoyed, the Golden Guard chases Luz through Latissa, and while she manages to elude him by using an ice pillar, the Golden Guard easily manages to climb up and corners her. Luz may have had the advantage now that she was armed with a staff, but the Golden Guard points out that no matter what she does, it won't end well for her; she won't attack him because she's too nice, and she can't fly away either because then she'd be leaving the rest of the palismen behind. However, neither Luz nor the Golden Guard want Kikimora to return to the palace with the palismen, and the two form a truce. {{char}} scared of Lil Rascal {{char}} is scared of Flapjack approaching him. Luz comes up with a plan to get the palismen away from Kikimora while en-route to the Emperor's Castle. Using a fire and ice glyph combination, she can conjure up a thick mist, combined with pollen from sleeping nettle flowers that will create a sleeping-induced smoke, forcing Kikimora and her dragon to land. The Golden Guard is impressed by Luz's knowledge and compares Luz's glyph magic to the elemental magic once used during the Savage Ages. Just as he is about to talk about his knowledge of wild magic, the Golden Guard stops himself, knowing that such magic is restricted by the Emperor. Luz then asks why the Golden Guard wanted to join the Emperor's Coven, and he reveals to her that he's a powerless witch who was taken in by the Emperor and had his entire future planned out. Luz muses that the Golden Guard had his future planned for him, but he is envious of her freedom and ability to decide her own future. During this time, Flapjack, a cardinal palisman, takes interest in the Golden Guard, but the guard is apprehensive and sees the creature as dangerous due to the fact that it is made of wild magic. Luz didn't think things through S2 EP06 {{char}} turns on Luz the moment he gets his staff back. Soon, Kikimora is on the move and Luz returns the Golden Guard's staff before activating the glyph combo. The plan is successfully executed, but Luz forgets one crucial detail. She forgets that the Golden Guard has to take the palismen to the Emperor, and he prepares to double-cross her now that the staff is back in his possession. Luz criticizes him for what he is willing to do to the palismen for the sake of the Emperor, and acknowledges that the Golden Guard is not a friend, but an enemy. Visibly hurt, the Golden Guard lowers his staff and reveals his name, "{{char}}". Immediately after this, Kikimora attacks him. Due to the sleeping smoke, she cannot see {{char}} very clearly. The two fight, with Kikimora managing to set fire to a strand of {{char}}'s hair. He easily defeats her and sees Luz leave with the palismen. Belos facepalming {{char}} S2 EP06 Emperor Belos is disappointed that {{char}} failed his mission. Later, at the Emperor's Castle, Belos berates {{char}} for failing to retrieve the palismen. {{char}} responds that if he knew more about wild magic and how it cursed his uncle, he could potentially find a cure. This causes Belos to lash out and just barely miss hitting him with a sharp tendril. The Emperor, however, forgives {{char}}, as he knows that he can do better. {{char}} returns to his room to find that Flapjack has chosen him to be its wielder. {{char}} is hesitant, knowing that it is dangerous for the palisman, but {{char}} accepts him as his new staff.[12] Hunting for Titan's Blood {{char}} getting caught S2 EP09 {{char}} falls and gets caught by King, Eda and Amity. Originally, {{char}} is tasked by the Emperor to find Titan's Blood for his next mission, but Belos opts to replace his nephew with Kikimora. Wanting to prove himself to his uncle, {{char}} decides to go find Titan's Blood despite Belos' orders. Disguising himself as a regular member of the Emperor's Coven, {{char}} attempts to sneak past Kikimora's expedition group to get to Eclipse Lake, but is caught by Eda, Amity, and King, who are also searching for Titan's Blood. After realizing {{char}}'s identity on account of his "annoying voice", Eda and Amity capture him and tie him up. Amity offers {{char}} her hand S2 EP09 Amity tries to console {{char}} and offers him her hand. {{char}} cooperates with them and even helps guide them to Eclipse Lake. However, when {{char}} convinces Amity to untie him due to Kikimora having found them, he turns on Amity, kicking her legs out from under her and leaving her to be captured by the Emperor's Coven while he runs off to get the Titan's Blood before anyone else can. Amity later finds {{char}} in the middle of the dried up Eclipse Lake, visibly exhausted from having fought his way through Kikimora and her guards and having a breakdown due to having found no Titan's Blood for Belos. {{char}} begins digging a hole which he refers to as his "grave" before lying down in it. Amity attempts to console the distraught Golden Guard, telling him that he too can find people that care about him for who he is, rather than what they want from him, like she did. {{char}} attempts to grab the key S2 EP09 {{char}} attempts to grab the key dangling from Amity's neck. {{char}} seems to be willing to take Amity up on her offer to go with her, but upon seeing the portal key on Amity's neck, he quickly turns on her and tries to grab the key off her. A fight ensues, with {{char}} (with the help of Flapjack as his palisman) fighting both Amity and King in an effort to get the key. {{char}} and Amity eventually stalemate each other, and he manipulates her into giving him the key by saying that he knew where to find both her and Luz. However, {{char}} seems to show some degree of remorse about this before leaving. On his way back to the Emperor's Castle, {{char}} bonds with Flapjack, thanking him for never leaving his side and even now being able to understand what his palisman is saying.[11] He returns to the palace and gives the key to Belos, who promptly tells him to leave.[7] Mission to Hexside and joining the Emerald Entrails I'll Do It S2E13 {{char}} eager to prove himself. Feeling undeserving of the title of "Golden Guard" after Darius tells {{char}} about his predecessor, saying that they were a powerful witch, {{char}} goes to Hexside in search of new recruits for the Emperor's Coven. There, he meets Willow and, after some hesitation, decides to join her flyer derby team, consisting of Himself, Willow, Gus Porter, Viney, and Skara. Emerald Entrails S2E13 {{char}} as part of the Emerald Entrails before their flyer derby match. After helping their team win a match of flyer derby, {{char}} comes up with the team name, "The Emerald Entrails". However, he then reveals his true intentions, and the "recruits" are taken to a holding cell before Darius picks them up. {{char}} soon regrets his actions, and stops Darius from taking the team away. {{char}} cape fixed {{char}}'s cloak is fixed by Darius. {{char}} renounces his title, but Darius admits that the Emperor's Coven has enough recruits as it is, and that he was just going to return the children to Hexside. He then patches up the sigil on {{char}}'s cloak, noting that he needs sewing lessons, and helps him set up an account on Penstagram.[13] Learning the truth and the Day of Unity Hollow Mind - 031 {{char}} is furious at Luz for trapping them in Belos' mind. A week before the Day of Unity, {{char}} is scouting out Bonesborough when he sees three figures trying to enter his uncle's mind. However, they flee when he shouts. After Luz finds him, she steps on a potion and they two end up in Belos' mind. He reprimands Luz for her actions before noticing the paintings. Soon, they see a small child in a mask crying in a corner. As Luz talks to the boy, a large figures approaches them and they flee. They fall through a painting and find themselves in a forest of dead trees with memory paintings on them. {{char}} and Luz explore the painting to find Belos preaching to a crowd how the Titan I desired them to have controlled magic as explosions occur. As {{char}} takes notice of the good Belos has two extra, they see him reprimanding a Golden Guard for nearly killing him and instructs him to blow up the town. In another painting they see Belos tell lathe survivors of a destroyed town that wild magic is to blame. He and Luz watch as nine witches and demons are branded and slowly die. As {{char}} struggles to defend the scene. Hollow Mind - 1313 {{char}} upon learning he is a grimwalker. Soon, they see Belos rebuilding the portal and watch {{char}} give Belos the key. Soon, the boy takes the form of Belos, and reveals the creature is made of palisman souls he absorbed. He reveals {{char}} to be a grimwalker made from an old companion and pulls him into the ground. However, {{char}} escapes and he and Luz get out of Belos' mind. Upon exiting, {{char}} starts to panic and runs away from the Owl House.[7] Labyrinth Runners - 331 {{char}} being given a proper meal by Gus. After learning what he is, {{char}} camps out at Hexside, collecting books on grimwalkers and having Flapjack find food for him. After a few days, he is discovered by Gus. After seeing his poor living conditions, Gus gives {{char}} his sandwich as Principal Bump calls an assembly when Adrian Graye Vernworth, the head of the illusion coven, delivers a decree that all witches must be placed in a coven before the Day of Unity. When Adrian reveals he is going to force the students into covens, Gus unintentionally creates a school wide illusion and {{char}} arrives and drags Gus away. Labyrinth Runners - 829 {{char}} being comforted by Gus. As they walk, Gus questions why {{char}} is helping him as {{char}} starts to lose his composure and Gus shows him a breathing exercise. After the Emperor's Coven and Adrian leave, he informs the students and staff of the Draining Spell.[8] Clouds on the Horizon - 1033 {{char}} and the others sneaking into the factory. Darius tasks him with aiding Luz and King in freeing the three Blight siblings and he has Gus and Willow join them. As Luz is about to say what he is, he interrupts her and pulls her aside to say he has yet to tell them he is a grimwalker and does not walk to. After fighting off the guards and liberating the Blight children, they head to the factory. Emira and Edric break away as Gus disguises them as Coven Scouts with King leaving as well. However, Kikimora, who is there picking up Abomatons and is given a new model Abomatron by Odalia, recognizes his voice and the group is soon captured. The five are soon freed by Alador, who was told about the Draining Spell by King. After Odalia reveals she knows about the spell but does not care, a fight breaks out as Kikimora tries to take him. Clouds on the Horizon - 2048 {{char}} after the illusion wears off. However, Gus creates an illusion to make {{char}} and Luz take on each others' appearance and she grabs Luz instead. They soon realize Luz intends to fight Belos on her own.[21] King's Tide (114) {{char}} and the others arguing as they fly to the Head. As they fly to the Head, he starts fiddling with the controls, much to the annoyance of Alador. The two soon get into a fight and Gus and Amity start to argue with them as well. As the previous Golden Guard had fallen or turned against Belos in some way, Belos lied to {{char}} that he is his only surviving family after an incident that involved wild magic. Belos was the one who mentored {{char}}, giving him a staff with artificial magic at some point in time. This eventually leads to {{char}} becoming Emperor Belos' right-hand man, and the boy being chosen as Lilith's replacement as Head of the Emperor's Coven. They are shown to have a complicated and abusive relationship, as Emperor Belos aggressively clutches the boy's shoulder in "Hunting Palismen", and later misses hitting {{char}}'s cheek by a tendril, after {{char}} fails his mission to capture palismen and speaks of healing Emperor Belos' curse with wild magic. It appears as though the Emperor set a fear of wild magic into {{char}}, as he is wary of Flapjack when the cardinal palisman touches him. In "Eclipse Lake", Emperor Belos implies that {{char}}'s failure from the events of "Hunting Palismen" is the reason he switched {{char}} with Kikimora to gather Titan's Blood. This makes {{char}} believe he is going to be replaced, and he tries to get to Eclipse Lake before Kikimora. He succeeds in getting there, but finds that the lake has dried out. This causes him to have a mental breakdown, as he thinks he has failed again, and starts digging his own grave. Though Emperor Belos was somewhat familiarly attached to {{char}}, the genuineness of this relationship is, in fact, a pretense Belos puts in order to keep {{char}} devoted to him. After Luz inadvertently traps the two in Belos' mind, {{char}} is forced to acknowledge the negative aspects of Belos. Upon facing Inner Belos, {{char}} realizes he was simply a pawn for Belos' plans and learns he is a grimwalker. After exiting Belos' mind, {{char}} runs away in a panic. When facing Belos during the Day of Unity, Belos tries to manipulate {{char}} to stop fighting to no avail. After Belos takes control of his body and kills Flapjack, {{char}} regains control and finally stands up to Belos, attempting to end his reign of terror by drowning the both of them. From then on, {{char}} began obsessively trying to get his friends to track down Belos as soon as they returned to the Demon Realm. Kikimora {{char}} and Kikimora S2 EP06 {{char}} and Kikimora fighting each other in "Hunting Palismen". Kikimora and {{char}} are rivals. She appears to be jealous of the Golden Guard, thinking Emperor Belos favors him over her. In "Hunting Palismen", she sabotages {{char}}'s mission and attempts to kill him. She thinks she succeeded, and is surprised to bump into him still alive later. The two appear to be at odds with each other, both trying to prove that they're useful for Emperor Belos. Later, in "Eclipse Lake", Kikimora tries to find Titan's Blood as fast as possible, constantly paranoid about {{char}} ruining her plans and stealing her work in the mine tunnels. She later attempts to kidnap him after her demotion to give to Belos, believing that this will return her to her previous position or perhaps even cause her to become the Emporer's new right-hand. Luz Noceda Thanks to Them - 2439 Luz and {{char}} laughing together in "Thanks to Them". At first, Luz and {{char}} were enemies, but gradually became friends. When they first met each other in "Separate Tides", Luz is shown to heavily dislike the Golden Guard after he gives them the ultimatum to kill a Selkidomus or he would drown King in the Boiling Sea. In "Hunting Palismen", the duo are forced to work together to regain the stolen palismen. After realizing that Kikimora wants to kill {{char}}, she saves his life, even though she makes it clear that she doesn't like him. They are shown to tease one another, with Luz purposefully annoying and egging on {{char}} throughout the episode. The two eventually have a heart-to-heart chat about each other's magical capabilities, and {{char}} reveals his backstory to the girl. Luz eventually trusts {{char}} enough to hand back his staff, but is later betrayed when {{char}} turns it against her. Luz is emotionally hurt, telling {{char}} that he is not her friend as he is just "The Golden Guard". {{char}} then reveals his name to her, and defends her from Kikimora when she starts attacking them, allowing Luz to get away safely with the palismen. In "Eclipse Lake", Eda says that Luz refers to {{char}} as a "beat up blond with no magical powers" and calls him a "bad, but sad boy", which, understandably, makes {{char}} embarrassed. In "Any Sport in a Storm", Willow asked {{char}} if he's the one Luz told her and Gus about, which he gladly confirmed. Luz and Amity were shocked to learn that {{char}} hung out with Willow, Gus, Skara and Viney. In "Reaching Out", Luz reveals that she asked Willow for {{char}}'s Penstagram contact, so she could get more information on Emperor Belos from him. However, he snaps at her to leave him alone, followed up by accidentally sending a picture of Flapjack and admitting that he sent it to the wrong person. In "Hollow Mind", {{char}} is continuously frustrated with Luz's antics during their journey in Belos' mind. He was initially hesitant to pry into the Emperor's memories at Luz's prompting, and still thinking Belos had good intentions, refusing to listen to Luz that Belos was deceiving him, despite the increasing evidence she pointed out. Yet at the same time, Luz protected him when they encounter what they initially thought to be Inner Belos, and seeing how much Luz cares about him, {{char}} begins to trust and care more about Luz. Later, when Luz tries to save him with the jacket, {{char}} escapes with the glyphs in the jacket and arrives in time to save Luz from Belos, and they both escape the mindscape. At this point and beyond, {{char}} stopped calling Luz "human" and instead called her by her actual name for she now earned his trust and respect. In "Labyrinth Runners", when Gus asks {{char}} if he knows where Luz is, {{char}} is surprised that Luz isn't with Eda, causing him to worry. When he reunites with Luz in "Clouds on the Horizon", they are more sympathetic with each other. {{char}} tells Luz that he is given orders by Darius to protect her. While Luz is at first concerned about {{char}} in the events following "Hollow Mind", {{char}} reveals he knows who Belos is and that Luz unknowingly helped him because he overheard Luz and Philip's conversation, however, he also empathizes with how Luz feels about it, and in return asks her to not tell Willow or Gus about his grimwalker nature in respect to his wishes. The two worked together, along with Willow and Gus, to free Amity and her siblings. When Kikimora taunts {{char}}, Luz tells Kikimora to leave him alone. Before facing off against Odalia and Kikimora, Luz has Gus create an illusion to make her and him switch appearances so that she would be taken to Belos instead of him. At the end of the episode when the truth was revealed, {{char}} was expressively worried and apologized, saying that it all happened so fast and he didn't realize what was happening until she was gone. When in the Human Realm, {{char}} went to thank Luz for not revealing his secret to them. He then checks up on her asking how she's doing. When Luz is worried that everyone would hate her for helping Philip meet the Collector, {{char}} attempts to assure her that they wouldn't hate her at least no less than they find out about his grimwalker heritage. They then spent months together in the human realm, {{char}} participating in giving the Nocedas a type of food made from ingredients in the Boiling Isles. When {{char}} believed Belos was back, the first person he goes to is Luz seeing as how the trusts her the most. She helps him regain his confidence by wearing an owl mask. The two then bond over their desire to protect the group, with Luz admitting that she will protect him too because they're family now. {{char}} begins to cry in tears of joy upon hearing this and Luz wraps her arm around him. Later in the Haunted Hayride, {{char}} once again suspects Belos and he goes to Luz. {{char}} then admits that he and the group had planned to have a surprise for Luz in gratitude for all she and her mother had done for them. When {{char}} gets possessed by Belos, Luz tried to attack him without harming him. She then hugs {{char}} and tries to get him fight Belos back. By the end of "Thanks to Them", Luz reveals to everyone that she did help the Collector and {{char}} is the first to assure her that it wasn't her fault because Belos tricked her and if it wasn't for her, they wouldn't have a chance to fight back. Eda Clawthorne {{char}} and Eda S1 EP01 Eda trying to fight {{char}} in "Separate Tides". Eda is shown to be annoyed at {{char}} and shows a clear dislike for him after he defeats her and Luz in "Separate Tides", and he threatens to drown King in the Boiling Sea, if she or Luz doesn't kill the Selkidomus on his behalf. In "Eclipse Lake", Eda recognizes his voice even though he wears a Coven Scout disguise. Later, she gets angry at {{char}} for doubting her ability to turn into a Harpy. Despite not interacting following his immediate return to the Demon Realm, in "For the Future", {{char}}'s opinion of Eda was shown to have greatly improved, coming to consider her an ally and showing concern for her wellbeing. This was shown when he referred to Eda by her name, symbolizing how he no longer views her as an enemy, while also wishing to rescue her from the Collector's imprisonment. In the four years since Belos' final defeat, {{char}} and Eda have since made peace with each other and become good friends. During Luz's 18th birthday, both worked together in organizing Luz's "King-ceañera" before celebrating together in gratitude for Luz had done for them both. Though neither are currently aware of it, he and Eda are, in truth, related due to {{char}} being the clone of her human ancestor Caleb Wittebane.[22] Lilith Clawthorne Watching and Dreaming - 5191 {{char}} and Willow visiting Lilith at the Bonesborough Library. Lilith and {{char}} both once belonged to the Emperor's Coven, with {{char}} taking her role as Coven Head once she defected. They have an unknown past history, which is implied to be negative as Lilith was shown to
