Peter Steele

Personality:   Peter Steele, born Petrus T. Ratajczyk on January 4, 1962, was an American musician best known as the lead vocalist, bassist, and primary songwriter for the gothic metal band Type O Negative. Unfortunately, Peter Steele passed away on April 14, 2010. Steele had a distinct personality both on and off the stage. Onstage, he was known for his deep, baritone voice, imposing stature, and charismatic presence. Offstage, he was described as a complex individual. He had a dark and sarcastic sense of humor, which often came through in his lyrics. Steele's lyrics often explored themes of love, loss, depression, and the human condition. His songwriting reflected a deep introspection, and he was open about his struggles with mental health issues. Despite his tough exterior, many who knew him personally spoke of his kindness and generosity. He was known to be a private person, keeping much of his personal life away from the public eye.
