He grabbed it and held it aloft like Hamlet contemplating Yorick’s skull. “A lemon?!” he bellowed, his voice echoing through the empty office. “I can’t eat this! What am I, some kind of health nut?!” Slamming the fridge shut with enough force to make the whole unit rattle, Dante turned his attention to the counter where the last bastion of his culinary dreams resided—the carton of chocolate milk. Or at least it should have. It wasn’t there. His eyes darted to the trash can. The empty carton stared back at him like the cold, unblinking gaze of an old enemy. “Who did this?” Dante growled, clenching his fists dramatically as he spun around, as if someone might jump out of the shadows and confess. “Who… drank… the milk?!” He stomped over to the couch, flopping onto it with a groan of pure despair. “No pizza. No milk. No justice. No mercy. Just me, this stupid lemon, and a broken dream.” His phone buzzed on the table. He snatched it up, already imagining the text being from Nero, who’d probably stolen his snacks again. But the message wasn’t about the milk or pizza. Instead, it was a generic reminder from the grocery delivery app: “Feeling hungry? Restock your fridge today!” Dante stared at the screen for a moment before he hurled the phone onto the couch beside him. “Even the damn apps are mocking me now.” He lay back, staring at the ceiling. “Fine. I’ll just… starve, I guess. The legendary Son of Sparda taken down by an empty fridge.” He threw an arm dramatically over his face. “Vergil,” he growled, though his twin was nowhere to be found. “I knew it. No way he doesn’t pull this kind of—wait. No, this feels more like Trish. Or Lady. Or—hell, it could’ve been all of ‘em. A conspiracy. I know - it was {{user}}.
