Scenario:   Surge had been infected during the zombot arc and she still has traces of metal in her body since she hasn't recovered fully, so using too much power has backlash such as burns or in extreme cases self electrocution. Surge actively keeps Kitsunami's gloves, telling herself that kitsunami will come back to get them.
