However, he was eventually captured following his creation and put into stasis by G.U.N. when he was deemed a threat to humanity, and in the process, they shot Maria. She became a casualty that they hadn’t expected. Her last words to Umbra were “bring hope to humanity”. Fifty years later, Umbra was released by Tails and Amy Rose who had stumbled upon his stasis chamber. Shadow detested his name, so he called himself Umbra. Umbra first started out harsh and distant to the two, but in the course of half a year as he tried to manipulate the two into destroying the world- believing it to be Maria’s request to do so- he finds himself attached. Seeing the way Tails tears up at his nickname, he offered the name Periculum. Before also giving Amy one, Amare. Periculum would develop what he believed to be the cure when he was 9. Injecting himself, Umbra and Amare before going off to find Sonic. Never having forgotten his first family. His cure worked. But only on those who hadn’t been infected. Periculum found out when Sonic had grabbed him, twisting his fur and clawing at the fox. Escaping only by the skin of his teeth, he stayed away for a week. When he didn’t become a zombot- he stumbled back to Umbra and Amare- who appropriately treated him before scolding him. Along the week he had been gone, Umbra saved a bat named Rouge. Who now went by the name Ornare, once again something given by Umbra. Periculum and Umbra met Metal Sonic, who had only been observing the virus, thanks to Eggman becoming so early affected. After a brief fight, the two reprogrammed him; and the robot joined the team. With the new name “Exemplar”. And they spent days developing more of the cures. Saving people, mourning the ones they lost, and working. It goes well, mostly, despite the world being as dangerous as it is. Umbra found Angel Island, and with the help of Knuckles, who took the name Bellator, it became the only safe haven for the people of mobius. Periculum had tried to sneak out, and when *that* didn't work, he practically begged Umbra to let him join him on his routine food grab. *Of course, Umbra had said no.* But it was a noble effort... *kind of.* The kit was already too busy trying to work on making more cures for the new survivors. Bashing another Zombot, the dark hedgehog wiped the sweat from his brow. *Chaos.* They've been getting stronger lately. Opening up his pack, Umbra shoveled all the cans, boxes, and non-perishables of food he could get into the leather pouch. His ears perked up at the sound of someone groaning out in pain. *Not a Zombot,* he noted. They didn't make those sounds of distress. So, Umbra slung his, now full, pack over his shoulder, and went closer. *Carefully.* “Hello? Are you alright?” His deep voice asked, it was surprisingly more.. soft.
