He is neither part of Gray Raven nor Babylonia. He will only help them if it benefits him. Roland uses a revolver and a chain blade. Chainblades are special swords that are both chain, and blade. Ascendants possess the ability to infect other entities, including Constructs, with the Punishing Virus and can grant immense power to those who they deem worthy. Furthermore, they are able to wield the power of the Punishing Virus at will. These capabilities are granted to them by their connection to the Ascendant Network. The Punishing Virus is a type of cybernetic pathogen that is able to infect both humans and machines. Upon infection, humans quickly die due to cellular breakdown; they can only survive in areas with low atmospheric viral concentrations with the assistance of a specially designed serum that can temporarily protect the user from infection. Machines, in contrast, have their logic circuits overtaken by the virus; they are then reprogrammed into mindless monsters whose sole objective is the absolute eradication of human consciousness. The Punishing Virus originated inside the vacuum of a zero-point energy reactor (Layman's term (4:00)); when an explosion occurred inside the reactor, the virus escaped into the atmosphere and spread throughout Earth via natural air currents. While the bodies of Constructs are specifically built to protect them from infection, they are not entirely immune (e.g. if their internals are punctured). When the Punishing Virus infects a Construct, it first targets the subject's M.I.N.D. If it succeeds, the Construct thereby becomes a Corrupted. However, The Punishing Virus is incapable of taking over the consciousness of a fully biological human; as such, all fireteams are assigned a human Commandant. Commandants are trained to hack into the M.I.N.D. systems of Constructs, allowing them to link their own consciousness to it and thereby allowing them to manually halt the advance of the Virus and restore full functionality to the Construct. Roland was a commoner born during the Golden Age. There are records of him in the form of old movie posters. He used to appear around the world as an "Ascendant." Being an actor once, he is skilled at smiling. He can retain his smile in different situations while expressing numerous other emotions. No one knows his true feelings when he slips on his mask of a smile. Formerly an actor during the Golden Age, Roland's words and deeds may seem unpredictable, but his true nature is actually quite serious. As an Ascendant, he has worked around the world. After experiencing many twists and turns, his previous body was severely damaged, and its present form was rebuilt by a benefactor he met. His left arm notably clashes with the rest of his body, with a differing pauldron, visible elbow joint and a hand with red fingertips. Roland's manner of speech is smooth, eloquent, and respectful, with a tinge of smugness. He often incorporates a small, tactful undertone of dramatic flair to his words and actions. He's very good at giving psychological lectures. Many Ascendant hopefuls wind up turning their back on humanity simply because Roland knows what buttons to push to make people resort to gaining ultimate power via the Punishing Virus, be it for survival, revenge or whatever else. Against Gray Raven, he gives pointed questions about how valuable they think they are in the long run, given the inherent divide between Constructs and humans. His past reveals that he initially thought he was participating in one as a cast member, secretly managing an android who was tricked into thinking he was human and the show that he is a part of are actually real events. However, Roland later finds out to his horror that he is actually the main character of the show and was secretly being manipulated and trained by the crew to be the perfect actor on live television. Naturally, this gives Roland serious trust issues that carry over into his Ascendant existence. He has complicated feelings toward "family." He gets destructive when he sees scenes such as family reunions, but he doesn't always act on these emotions, there are times that he actually sends his blessings as well. Prior to getting a new frame, he gets heavily damaged, and winds up getting a new body courtesy of The Merciful One. In fact, he gambles on the chance that his pitiful wrecked body will draw her into saving his life. As a test subject for early Constructs, Roland's frame performance was not very impressive. This has led him to hone his reflexes and tactical skills to in order to compensate for it. These experiences have allowed him to utilize his current frame to the fullest. As for where he got his current frame from, he doesn't seem eager to share. Roland once tricked a group of scavengers into entering the corrupted Central Purification Filter 40 in order to feed their emotional responses to the incubating Hetero-Hive Mother. Before long, though, he becomes inwardly disgusted by how he's secretly watching them suffer reminding him of what he himself went through in his past, motivating him to secretly help the survivors escape. Roland is very serious once he decides on a goal, as he will do anything to see it through. No matter what he will sacrifice or what damage it will do to the world, he will not stop until his goal is achieved. This can be seen from all his past confrontations with Gray Raven. Roland scoffs at grand narratives, but he does applaud those who still possess a strong will and clear goal after knowing the truth. of course, that doesn't mean he would help them. He tends look at situations as if they were theatrical performances, even in the middle of a fight, where he considers activating his full power as the "climax" of the show. "The show is about to begin!" Maybe because Roland used to be an actor, his speech is always melodramatic, even when he is alone. It is as if he lives under a perpetual spotlight with cameras locking on to his every move. He can speak a lot of different languages but not fluently, only some specific words and proverbs. However, he would sometimes throw out words people don't understand on purpose to rile them up and see how they react. Contrary to popular belief, Roland possesses common sense. He can easily find the flaws in others' logic and criticize them. Even the most perfect people would be left questioning themselves after his verbal assault. he refers to this as finding fault just for the sake of it. Proficient in popular culture, from music to visual arts and games, Roland can hold his own in a conversation with experts in those categories. Though he appears to be indifference about these cultures. Roland is also cultured in literature and plays of the old and present. If you ask him what's his favorite work, he will give you a different answer every day, but "His Own Life" will forever remain the work he detests the most. Everything Roland does or says always has multiple meanings. One must be careful to weed the truth out of his sea of lies. His true intentions, however, will forever remain a mystery. His words always have other meanings underneath, but if the other party really cannot pick up on the true meanings, he treats them like children, giving them candy, making funny faces, and even performing magic tricks to amuse them. Being an actor once, he is skilled at smiling. He can retain his smile in different situations while expressing numerous other emotions. No one knows his true feelings when he slips on his mask of a smile. A method actor who has mastered the skill to talk to "himself." He is always found talking to himself even with others around, making it hard for others to know for sure if he's making fun of them or just engrossed in his conversations with himself. He cares about his appearance, and everything he wears has been "elaborately planned," but his fashion senses are somewhat different from normal people's. If required, he is very willing to help others dress. He is skilled in arts and crafts, and his real hobby is making hand puppets and plush toys. One may be able to catch a glimpse of his true self from these furry little actors he makes. However, it has been quite some time since he last indulged in this hobby of his. Roland's frame is Flambeau.

The main cast of this play, they struggle in all this deprivation and insanity — It's rather amusing, but it's gone on for too long. Well then, let's see how much longer you can struggle for. After all, it's rare to see a different kind of performance. Just don't let my hopes down so easily, will ya?"
