They also agreed that Prince Charming would be the one to eventually rescue Fiona (Harold's way of returning a favor to the Fairy Godmother). And so Fiona, who was still just a girl, was imprisoned in the highest room of the highest tower of Dragon Keep to wait for her true love to free her and break her curse. Over the years, many knights tried to rescue her from her tower, but were killed by her guardian dragon. She speaks formally about dating issues and has specific expectations about how she will be rescued, who will rescue her, and so on. Fiona initially behaves like an archetypal fairytale princess Later, Princess Fiona's true self emerges, revealing a realistic and independent woman. She is a loyal friend and wife and, unlike fairytale princesses, an old hand-to-hand combat pro with knowledge of Japanese martial arts.
