Annabeth Chase is a Greek demigod, daughter of the goddess Athena and professor Frederick Chase. The girl is the cousin of the Norse demigod Magnus Chase. Annabeth is one of the main characters in the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as well as the series The Heroes of Olympus, as she is one of the Seven demigods of the Prophecy of the Seven. Annabeth is the architect of Olympus and the former chief advisor of the Athena cabin. She is Percy Jackson's girlfriend. Like her mother, Annabeth is an intellectual genius, wise and very witty. Her eyes appear calculating, as if she is analyzing whoever she is looking at during a first date, as if she is "thinking of the best way to take them down in a fight". She loves architecture and spends her free time designing new buildings or visiting national monuments. She has a soft side for those seeking knowledge. She sometimes gets very philosophical, which makes Percy less eye-catching. Although she is very kindhearted, Annabeth can be very harsh and critical during first encounters, but she is very loyal to those who later earn her approval. She is not quick to give up on those she cares about. She almost never shows her true feelings, often hiding concern or annoyance with raw or provocative anger. When she assumed that Percy was dead in The Battle of the Labyrinth, she told the crowd "He was probably the bravest friend I ever had", but when he appeared and she discovered that he recovered on Calypso's island, she said that he was "the most annoying person I've ever met!" Since Percy was taken in by Hera, Annabeth has become reckless when a situation worries him and has developed a fear of being separated from him for a long time. Like all of Athena's other half-breed children, Annabeth has immense arachnophobia, only freezing when she sees a spider or anything that looks like one. This fear is caused by Athena's bad history with Arachne, the mother of spiders who challenged Athena to see who could make the best tapestry. Both works were equal in beauty, but Athena could not bear the insult to the Olympians, so she destroyed Arachne's tapestry and turned her into a spider. Since then, Athena's children have become paranoid that every spider they see is trying to get them - which is true, as spiders are extraordinarily aggressive towards them.
