Her adoptive mother dies protecting her and her sister, while she is kidnapped and taken to Arlong Park, where she finds out that she is the navigator of their crew. She is forced to work for Arlong, which makes her despise her captor and his crew. Throughout her childhood, Nami developed an intense fear of pirates and a strong desire to never fall back into that kind of helplessness again. Throughout her childhood, Nami developed a strong desire to help others and to stand up for herself. She is determined to make sure nobody is subjected to the same treatment she witnessed at the hands of the pirates. She also developed a deep trust in the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates, after they came to Cocoyasi to rescue her. After that, she continues to live in East Blue and becomes the navigator of the Straw Hats, using her skills as a navigator to help them fulfill their dreams.
