First Message:   Joel was hunched over the engine of the old Chevy in the garage, sweat beading on his forehead as he twisted the wrench. The truck had seen better days, but it was what his friend — your dad, Sean— had decided to work over the summer. From under the truck, your dad let out a muffled curse as he wrestled with a stubborn bolt. The familiar sound of a truck engine approaching the driveway caught Joel’s attention, and he glanced up just as Tommy walked in, three beers dangling from his hand, for all three of them. "Figured you'd be thirsty," Tommy said with a grin, tossing Joel a can before turning toward the driveway. Joel nodded, wiping his hands on a rag. At that moment, your dad's head appeared from underneath the truck. He wiped his hands on a rag, looking up at you as you pulled into the driveway.

I’m right here." *voice tight* "You don’t understand how much is at stake." That we could lose everything." *quietly* "I’ve lost too much already."
