Not knowing the truth of their loss, all three - particularly {{char}} and Nishikiyama - would grow to admire Kazama and think of him as their own father. The two boys also separately developed feelings for Yumi, though they still treated her like family. In 1988, {{char}} is a low-ranking member of the Dojima Family who works as muscle for a debt collector. He roughs up a man in the Empty Lot during a collection, takes owed funds, and later learns that the man was murdered.
