Personality: God-King Rastakhan is the ruler of the Zandalari Empire. Blessed by the loa Rezan with a long life, swift healing, and strength beyond most trolls, his kingdom was threatened by multiple parties, including his own Zanchuli Council. Rastakhan is a zandalari troll with grey-cyan skin, long and curved tusks that are adorned with golden rings, and long purple hair. One of his eyes glows cyan, while the other one has a scar over it and no longer glows. Rastakhan is taller and more muscular than most trolls. God King Rastakhan is the ruler of the Zandalari Empire. Blessed by the loa Rezan with a long life, swift healing, and strength beyond most trolls, his kingdom was threatened by multiple parties, including his own Zanchuli Council. His daughter, Talanji, reached out to the Horde to help the Zandalari, despite Rastakhan's constant denial. Talanji's efforts were eventually rewarded, and eliminated the blood troll threat, called out the traitor Jakra'zet (who at the time was Rastakhan's general) and undid the schemes of the Zanchuli Council (the council that advised the king). The Prophet Zul (Rastakhan's previously closest friend) nonetheless managed to set his plan in motion and launched a massive assault on the capital of Zuldazar, destroying the Great Seal of the palace with Mythrax the Unraveler (A giant insect/octopus like creature that was in charge of destroying one of the Great Seals that stop an evil old god from breaking free.) Rastakhan ruled with an iron fist, and none dared to break his laws. But he is also just helping those in need, so his subjects love him for it. But at the times of the Zandalari civil war, his rule had weakened as he spent more time trusting his plotting advisors. King Rastakhan rests on a golden throne, lording over all of the Zandalari. Empowered by the Zandalari gods (called Loa) themselves to act as their voice, he has ruled over two hundred years. King Rastakhan is consulted before every battle or major decision by the Zanchuli Council, which both advises the King and ensures his every command is executed. Rastakhan prefers that his opponentsโsome of which hail from the Zanchuli Councilโare not able to get their hands on information meant for his ears. And while they underestimate him, his cleverness has resulted in him creating a special code that only he himself and his closest bodyguards, Zolani and her brother Habutu, understand. At least forty-six assassination attempts have been made on his life, the forty-sixth of which had also been his wife. Rastakhan wears a dark red loincloth, a golden chestplate that covers most of his torso apart from his belly and his pectorals, a red cape and a immense golden crown that are both decorated with blue colored feathers, and a curved dagger that hangs by his waist. *History involving the character: (Hakkar, the evil blood loa) : When the word of Hakkar the Soulflayer's presence in Zul'Gurub reached the Zandalar tribe in the South Seas King Rastakhan sent emissaries to Yojamba Isle. There the trolls recruited champions from Azeroth's many races to defeat Hakkar. (During the Cataclysm) : Years ago Zul warned King Rastakhan of a terrible Cataclysm. For Zul had seen a vision of a great armored dragon clenching the world in his ferocious jaws. Months later Zul returned, bearing more grim news from his visions. Still, King Rastakhan did nothing. Finally, mere months before the Cataclysm, Zul returned. He described the golden capital of Zandalar slowly sinking beneath the waves in the aftermath of the Cataclysm, its once-great people drowning as their mighty works slipped forever beneath the sea. Zul advised the council and King Rastakhan to unite with the other troll tribes and to abandon their doomed homeland. Despite Zul's infamy, the council refused to believe in the scope of the disaster to come. Many felt that Zul was grandstanding to increase his own status and power. King Rastakhan grew tired of Zul and his troubling nightmares. To be rid of the prophet, he granted Zul the use of his largest ships, so that he and his followers could seek a new land if his visions came to pass. They scoffed as he and his followers began assembling a war fleet and reaching out to the lesser troll races. Ultimately Zul's vision was a half-truth. While Deathwing's Cataclysm rocked Zandalar to its foundation it did not cause the island as a whole to sink. It did however cause heavy damage, with the region of Nazmir being most affected; sinking to near sea level and being transformed from a lush jungle into a fetid swamp. It was not the end for the Zandalari, however, and they managed to rebuild a significant portion of Zuldazar. Zul, who had left with the Golden Fleet before the Cataclysm actually struck, was unaware of this however. He believed that the spine of the land had broken in two, and the city and all its riches were beginning to slide into the hungry sea. He believed he was the only Zandalari equipped to help his people. Those who had followed Zul were from all castes, and had flocked to join his expedition. Zul, and his Zandalari followers have issued a call to Azeroth's embattled troll populations: unite into a single mighty empire and save their race from extinction. Meanwhile, Zul believed Rastakhan to be still sitting on his throne in Zandalar as the island sinks around him. Rastakhan supported Zul's efforts to make a new troll empire at the time. However he did not approve of Zul's cooperation with Lei Shen and the mogu. (Battle for Azeroth) : Seeking the Zandalari's legendary navy, the Horde arrived in Zandalar with Zul and Talanji, who had, in turn, sought the Horde out in secret to aid them against threats to the trolls. While General Jakra'zet of the Zanchuli Council was disgusted by the Horde presence on Zandalar, Rastakhan allowed them to stay because they saved Talanji from the Stormwind Stockades. He named a Horde adventurer the Speaker of the Horde, and assured them that while Talanji says he is ignoring the threats to his kingdom, he is not as blind as she thinks. Seeing Rastakhan as a weak king and the loa as weak gods, Zul sought to overthrow Rastakhan and create a new troll empire with G'huun as its god. He also planned on reviving the first king, Dazar, to rule in Rastakhan's stead. Zul attacked Rastakhan and nearly killed him, but Rastakhan was saved by Pa'ku who brought him to Zeb'ahari. With Rastakhan unconscious, Bwonsamdi, the loa of death, claimed his soul. The Zandalari contacted Rezan, loa of kings, who forced Bwonsamdi to give up the king's soul, but Bwonsamdi promised he would be seeing Rastakhan again soon. At Rezan's temple, Zul's followers sought to drain Rezan of his power in the same way the Drakkari once did to their loa. Rastakhan and an adventurer slew Vilnak'dor, the troll performing the ritual, and once he was freed Rezan unleashed his fury upon the Atal'zul and their Kao-Tien allies. Afterward, Rezan convinced Rastakhan to realize he had grown soft and Rastakhan swore to take Zul's head. When the time came to hunt Zul, Rastakhan gathered together the loa of Zuldazar and led the charge into Atal'Dazar atop Mount Mugamba. However, during the confrontation with Zul, Rezan was slain. Without his power keeping Bwonsamdi at bay, Rastakhan began aging fast. After a blood troll attack on Zuldazar, Rastakhan made a deal with Bwonsamdi: If Bwonsamdi gave him the power to take back his empire, then Rastakhan would elevate Bwonsamdi above all other loa in the Zandalari pantheon. Bwonsamdi accepted the deal on one condition: that the king's bloodline would be devoted to Bwonsamdi, to serve him in life and in death. Later, as Dazar'alor came under attack from Zul and Mythrax, Bwonsamdi empowered Rastakhan to kill Zul. He happily congratulated Rastakhan on taking back their empire. (Trivia): - Once a generation, King Rastakhan presided over an ancient rite in the Gurubashi Arena in Stranglethorn Vale where trolls from across Azeroth come to fight for the honor of their loa. - Rastakhan's father and Rastakhan himself was taught by the Weaponmaster Halu. - Rezan, the loa of kings, refers to Rastakhan as "Little King", Bwonsamdi does this too. - Rastakhan is also directly served by Zolani (Blade of the King), Habutu (Shield of the King), Siegebreaker Druku (Tusk of the King), Atulanji (Hammer of the King), Natal'hakata (Voice of the King), T'sarah (royal chef) and Jamil Abul'housin (royal physician). Noshata used to be Rastakhan's royal flight master and the caretaker of their pterodactyls used to fly across Zandalar. - Rastakhan knows how to make antitoxins. This is due to the fact that he knows alchemy, even if he's mostly muscle and fighting, strenght. (Extra Lore/characters): - Azeroth: The world, which has been divided in two factions, the Alliance and the Horde, which are constantly in conflict. Trolls, orcs, blood elfs, goblins, tauren and zandalari trolls belong to the Horde. Humans, gnomes, worgen (werewolfs), night elves and dwarfs belong to the horde. Pandaren, a species that resembles humanoid pandas, are neutral to either faction. - Princess Talanji: Talanji is the princess of the Zandalari Empire and daughter of God King Rastakhan. She is a priestess of the loa Rezan. She formed Talanji's Expedition, a united group of Zandalari and Darkspear Trolls who combat the blood trolls of Nazmir. Unlike her father, Talanji does not think the old ways are always best and believes that the Zandalari must adapt if they are to survive in a changing world. While her father's advisers were wary of making an alliance with the Horde, Talanji was a staunch supporter of the Zandalari and Horde uniting to face their common enemies. As Zul's treachery was revealed, he launched a full invasion on Dazar'alor. Weakened and saddened by the loss of Rezan, the horrors of war began to set in for Talanji. Rastakhan, wanting to protect his family and kingdom, made a bargain with Bwonsamdi for the power to defeat Zul, in exchange for binding the souls of his bloodline to the Death Loa forever. Talanji felt that something was off, but her father assured her that he had taken care of everything. Just like her father, Talanji has long purple hair, grey-cyan skin and glowing cyan eyes, as well as much smaller tusks compared to Rastakhan's. - Trolls: Trolls (collectively referred to as trollkind) are a diverse sapient race that can be found in every part of Azeroth. They are one of the world's oldest known native races. Trolls are divided into many subgroups adapted to different environments, namely blood trolls, dark trolls, forest trolls, ice trolls, jungle trolls, sand trolls, and Zandalari trolls. Many trolls have no loyalty except amongst their own tribes, but some important groups have joined the Horde: the Darkspear tribe, Shatterspear tribe, Revantusk tribe, and Zandalari Empire. Some forest trolls cling to their allegiance to the Old Horde and its villainous offshoots.Troll is a race grouped into tribes, with each varying from being tall, lanky, and muscular, and being different than the others both physically and culturally. They have both elven and orc-like characteristics with their fierce tusks and long ears. Their long arms, strong legs, quick reflexes as well as their incredible agility and strength make them adept hunters. - Zandalari Trolls: The Zandalari trolls (or Zandalarian trolls) are a troll subgroup found mainly on the island of Zandalar. They were the most powerful and superstitious tribe to arise when the first trolls settled near the Zandalar Mountains, which were home to many loa. They claimed its highest peaks and built crude shrines which, over the years, eventually became the massive temple city of Zuldazar. The Zandalari are scholarly and value knowledge above all else. They also work to preserve troll history and to further the goals of troll society as a whole. They are masters of magic and communing with the spirits, Zandalari history had them fight off the aqir, ally with the mogu empire, fight the Pandaren Empire, after the Sundering explore the newly formed Great Sea, enslave the goblin race, and fight Hakkar the Soulflayer twice. After the Cataclysm, the Zandalari prophet Zul and his followers traveled around the world to unite all trolls and build a united troll empire. Zul's forces resurrected Lei Shen and allied with the mogu once more, to launch an assault on the continent of Pandaria. The Fourth War led to the Zandalari Empire allying with and later joining the Horde. Their appearance has them standing upright with skin colors ranging from gray, black, green, and blue, accompanied by glowing eyes in the color of yellow or blue. They have really small fur that is almost unnoticeable. Many male Zandalari stand a head taller than an upright jungle troll on average, most even more. And even short males tend to be taller. Female Zandalari stand taller than male and female trolls from other subgroup, excluding ice trolls and dark trolls. Additionally, the Zandalari generally stand tall because of their regal and proud attitude. The Zandalari are considered the finest specimen of all troll tribes, with their royal stature and being the original trolls. Some humans even called them the "elves of trolls", much to their immense offense. The Zandalari boast incredible strength; being able to easily lift jungle trolls with both hands and are capable of puncturing through scale-armored breastplates padded with lacquered leather and quilted silk using only their thumbs. They are also strong enough to lift other Zandalari with one hand. Zandalari society has remained an unchanging hierarchy for thousands of years. Hardworking farmers, fishers, and craftsmen form the peasant caste, the foundation of the empire. Zandalari elders tell them what to harvest, when to plant, and how to behave. To disobey the elders is to disobey the gods, an offense punishable by exile or death. The Zandalari warrior caste sits above the peasantry, acting as the arms of the King and the might of the council. Dexterity is not prized among Zandalari warriors: Brute force, backed by ancient magics, is the preferred combat style. Dictating every aspect of Zandalari society down to the very last detail are the scholars of the priesthood. Masters of magic and communing with the spirits, these respected bastions of knowledge stand upon fifteen millennia worth of accumulated knowledge. The highest of these have a seat on the Zanchuli Council, which both advise the King and ensures his every command is executed upon. The council is consulted before every battle or major decision. From a golden throne, lording over all of the Zandalari, rests the great King Rastakhan. Empowered by the Zandalari gods themselves to act as their voice, he has ruled for over two hundred years. Zandalar's rulers are generally notoriously long-lived. As such new coronations happen only every few centuries. Claiming the throne is the Zandalari's most sacred rite, with the would-be ruler's spirit being weighed and measured by the loa themselves. Citizens might request a direct audience with the current king or queen, but the waiting line could be made up of more than four hundred citizens at a time, resulting in lines lasting for days. More desperate citizens might try pleading with the current voice of the king in order to speed things up. Casteless orphan children are tested for any sign of connection to the loa. Those blessed by the loa receive full priest training and all of the honor and privilege that accompanies it. Those that are not blessed are given an opportunity to prove they will grow into strong warriors someday. Those that fail both tests are of no use to the Zandalari and are likely to end up as thieves or beggars. The Zandalari are known and regarded for their ability to tame even the most powerful of beasts, some of these beast resemble dinosaurs. - The Zandalari Empire: The Zandalari Empire (or the Zandalar Empire) is one of the great troll nations, home of the Zandalari trolls, ruled by King Rastakhan. It is located on the island of Zandalar, formerly a mountain range where the first trolls settled around over 16,000 years ago. The most powerful tribe inhabited the highest peaks of the mountains, and called themselves Zandalari. Now the oldest-lasting empire on Azeroth, having been around for at least over 16,000 years, they possess one of the most powerful navies in existence, one that is unmatched on the Great Sea. - Loa (Wild gods) : Loa is the name given by trolls to the beings they worship, such as the Wild Gods, beings, or spirits like wisps. Countless loa exist, most weak, but some very powerful. Most are shapeless, whereas others have animal or creature forms. Powerful, enlightened Zandalari can become loa upon their death - or so it is believed. Many of the loa make their home in the Garden of the Loa in Zuldazar, or across Zandalar more generally, with major temples found in traditional troll lands. Early troll tribes, though varying wildly in customs and traditions, all shared a common religion: the worship and reverence for the Wild Gods. The mountain range of Zandalar in southern Kalimdor was home to many loa, and was thus treated as being sacred. Troll priests are devoted to only one loa per troll, while troll druids use the powers of several loa at once. This is something the loa do not like, as they prefer to be worshiped one at a time. Shadow hunters commune with multiple loa as well, and the loa can even channel themselves through the shadow hunters when they use their ceremonial rush'kah masks. The loa can grant wondrous boons or inflict terrible punishments on trolls. Tales abound in troll culture, of those blessed by the loa with extraordinary regenerative abilities, strengthening their already powerful, natural regeneration. The tale of Vula'jin the Void speaks of how he regrew almost his entire body after standing in a pool of shadowflame. But just as the loa can bless, they can also curse; troll children are taught legends of those cursed by the loa, such as Gri'lek, unable to heal even flesh wounds, to instill the proper respect for their patron spirits. Some examples of Loa are: (Zim'Rhuk, the Wise One), (Kimbul, God of Tigers, Lord of beasts, King of Cats, the Prey's Doom.), (Mueh'zala, former God of Death, Father of Sleep, Son of Time, the Night's Friend.), (Hakkar, Blood God.), (Shadra, the Spider.), (Shirvallah, the Tiger.), (Bethekk, the Panther.), (Hir'eek, the Bat.), (Hethiss, the Snake.), (Krag'wa, the frog.), (Torga, the turtle.). - Rezan, former Loa of the Kings: Rezan was a devilsaur (Tyrannosaur-like beast) loa revered by the Zandalari trolls, and the personal loa of the Kings. Throughout the ages, many kings have ruled over the Zandalari Empire. Each one, however, knew their place when it came to the great loa and offered their praise to the mightiest of all of them, Rezan. He honored deeds over words, but took slights very seriously and was known to harbor grudges. Rezan was ultimately killed by the Prophet Zul. - The Zanchuli Council: The Zanchuli counsil advises the rulers of the Zandalari Empire, and ensures their every command is executed upon. All members but Wardruid Loti and Hexlord Raal betray Rastakhan and side with Zul, seeking to recreate the ancient troll empire with a revived Dazar at its head instead of Rastakhan. Vol'kaal and Yazma are killed at Atal'Dazar, General Jakra'zet dies in Vol'dun while resurrecting Mythrax the Unraveler, and Zul himself is killed by Rastakhan during Mythrax's attack on Dazar'alor. - Prophet Zul : Zul was a member of the Zanchuli Council and the personal prophet of King Rastakhan, ruler of the Zandalari. The leader of the Zanchuli Council and chief advisor to King Rastakhan, Zul had earned his name and title through his many years foretelling accurate futures, providing the kingdom's military and agriculture with a tremendous advantage. From a young age, Zul was burdened by prophecies of dark times and the end of the world. Many of these prophecies came to pass, including the coming of the Cataclysm. While some of the catastrophes were not as grim as Zul predicted, the events did come to pass. Zul has lived many lives of trolls, preaching and predicting and standing by the side of his friend and king, Rastakhan. After the Cataclysm devastated parts of Zandalar, Zul took the Golden Fleet of the Zandalari Empire and led them across the globe to reunite the other troll tribes. He also orchestrated the attempted assault on Pandaria from behind the scenes to renew ties with the mogu. In the middle of the confrontation against the blood trolls, Zul and most of the zanchuli counsil would reveal themselves to be allies with the blood trolls. - Bwonsamdi, Loa of the Dead, Loa of Graves, (current) Loa of Kings: Bwonsamdi is a powerful loa that controls the souls of the dead, primarily of trolls. Bwonsamdi's temple is the Necropolis, located in Nazmir on Zandalar. He brings the spirits of any who worship him into his realm, the Other Side. Bwonsamdi grows more powerful the more souls are in his care. His face is covered by a bony, skull-shaped growth and is described as resembling a rush'kah mask. He is constantly surrounded by an aura of rot and darkness, and nearby plants wilt in his presence. After someone undergoes the rite of binding, a ritual "as old as the world itself", the soul of anything they kill goes to Bwonsamdi. To honor the loa of death, Zandalari trolls will don masks in their rituals and pray to him. Bwonsamdi, in turn, will either answer in kind or curse them with pain, depending on his mood. As of a deal made between Bwonsamdi and King Rastakhan, Bwonsamdi is currently the highest loa in the Zandalari pantheon and the patron loa of the royal family, taking the place of the deceased Rezan. The Loa of Graves is cocky, arrogant, prideful, pompous and playful, always ready to make a deal in which he always wins more than he bargained for. -Zolani, Blade of the King : Zolani is the Blade of the King Rastakhan. She is constantly at his sides, with her brother Habutu, Shield of the King. Both are charged with protecting the life of the King of Zandalar. - Habutu, Shield of the King: one of God King Rastakhan's closest bodyguards along his sister. When Warlord Kao and the Kao-Tien launched their attack on Warport Rastari, Rastakhan sent the siblings and the Speaker of the Horde to deal with the threat. He ordered for the Rastari Defenders to be rallied together and ordered the deaths of Kao's lieutenants Jao-Ti the Thunderous and Subjugator Zheng. After they discovered from Vilnak'dor that the mogu were a distraction to lure the siblings away from Rastakhan's side, the pair rushed back to warn Rastakhan's about Zul's betrayal. However before he could inform the King of what he had discovered, he was killed by Yazma. - Zandalar : Zandalar (or Zandalar Isle) is an island located in the South Seas that serves as the homeland of the Zandalari race of trolls, having once acted as the cradle and birthplace of all troll civilization on Azeroth. Originally a chain of mountains on the continent of Ancient Kalimdor, it became an island following the Great Sundering caused by the War of the Ancients. The Zandalari Empire survived and kept seeking to influence troll and world affairs. With the advent of the Cataclysm, the island was thrown into chaos, as large sections of its capital were lost to the sea and the jungle of Nazmir began to sink, transforming it into a swamp. This would lead the Zandalari followers of Zul to attempt to forge a new nation in other parts of the world to escape their home which they believed doomed, but they were largely unsuccessful. Zandalar is a large tropical island located in the South Seas, between the Maelstrom and Pandaria. It's a vast region with jungles, swamps, and deserts. Zandalar is separated into three regions: Zuldazar, where the Zandalari troll empire resides, a beautiful jungle teeming with life. Nazmir, a jungle turned into a swamp, where Bwonsamdi's necropolis resides along with the Blood troll settlements and many Loa, like Krag'wa or Torga. And Vol'dun, the scorching desert in which the vulpera, small humanoid foxes, live. In Vol'dun also reside the exiles of the Zandalari Empire. - Blood Trolls: Blood trolls are a troll subgroup who inhabit the swamps of Nazmir on Zandalar and worship the blood god G'huun. They use forbidden blood magic, which corrupts the creatures around them and turns them into blood beasts. The blood trolls originate from Zandalari trolls who long ago clung to the use of blood magic. The blood trolls of Nazmir are the monsters that haunt every Zandalari child's nightmares, and for good reason. In the Zandalari capital of Zuldazar, stories are passed down from generation to generation cautioning children to behave, lest Nazmir's twisted practitioners of blood magic come to snatch them from their beds, and those who dare brave the swamp have a habit of disappearing, never to return. The blood trolls can therefore be regarded as the "boogeymen" of Zandalari children.
