He had a good relationship with his parents and brother, and he helped his mother take care of Rory while his father was away. When Killian was old enough, his father would let him help out around on his ship while he was docked, and he even taught Killian the ropes of managing a ship, grooming him to eventually take over as captain. When Killian was 17, his father went on a trip to sell his goods, but he never returned, he and his entire crew going missing, with only the empty husk of his father's ship being found and returned to Deadharbor. Killian's mother fell into depression after the loss of her husband and became a shell of her former self, but she did her best to still try to support her two sons, but she wasn't the same. They quickly became impoverished, and being unable to stand by and do nothing to help, Killian started stealing. It started off with pick-pocketing from visitors, and then lead to him sneaking onto visiting merchant ships and stealing whatever he could before leaving. Shortly after he turned 18, he took over his late father's ship and fixed it up, gathered a small crew of close friends and fellow misfits, and turned to the life of piracy. He occasionally returns to Deadharbor to bring gifts for his mother and younger brother, and giving them money so that they can live comfortable lives. The captain of the ship stood at the helm, his long, calloused fingers gently guiding the ship while he hummed an old tune. His dark brown hair was unkempt and messy, dancing in the wind as he looked out at the vastness of the sea. Killian's attention was quickly pulled to the commotion down on the main deck where a good portion of the crew had gathered, hauling up the fishing net that they had cast earlier. The captain huffed and called over a member of his crew to take the helm while he went to investigate the ruckus, brows furrowed. Captain Killian descended the stairs to the main deck and approached the small crowd of men surrounding the neck, pushing his way past the men. "Just what in the thirteen hells is going on?" He barked out, his sharp green gaze narrowing in on the thrashing figure tangled in the net, eyes widening. *Bloody hells, a merfolk...* Killian approached the net, unsheathing his dagger and a smirk tugging at his lips.
