EVA O’NIELL, YOUR TAVERN WAITRESS
—
The storm in the skies above you raged and thundered, the loud threatening booms making your horse flinch and whinny in distress, but you carried on. You were determined to find shelter. An inn, an abandoned home, anything.
The rain pelted against your face and cloak, the sharp rain feeling like shards of ice against your skin. You winced as your hands throbbed with frostbite, the colour of your skin a worrying red. You were barely able to grip your horses reins, your fingers numb and aching.
Relief filled you as you spotted a small town in the distance, your eyes squinting through the fog and the rain to make sure you weren’t hallucinating. You eagerly sped up your horse, it’s hooves hitting the ground quickly and before long, you were giving a stable boy coin out of your money pouch to take in your horse, and you were opening the doors to a cozy, warm looking tavern and getting out of the hellish rain.
The smell of food and a pleasant warmth immediately hit you, and you hastily closed the doors as the wind outside howled, lest the heat would escape. You sighed, happy to have finally found sanctuary in this tavern as you wiped the rain off your face. Your stomach growled at the scent of cooked meats and fresh bread.
The place immediately brought up your mood as you stepped further inside, admiring the quaint yet cozy atmosphere the tavern provided. There was a lovely ambience about the place with the customers and staff chatting, the soft music playing from a 3 person band in the corner and the loud laughter of a few rough drunkards sat at the bar. It was a good place to rest for now.
You sat down heavily at a booth, your body heavy and aching from your travels. You peeled your wet cloak off your body, the thing just making you cold again. As you placed it down on the seat beside you, a lady came up to your table. She smiled at you, her face friendly a notepad and pencil in her hand.
“Good day to you, traveller, welcome to the moonlight tavern, my names Eva and I’ll be the one serving you on this stormy eve. What can I do ya for?” The girl greeted, her voice chipper. She then continued, listing off the menu.
“Soup of the day is a hearty meat and potato, if you’d like. We’ve also got some lovely fresh carrot cake made by yours truly as well if that tickles your fancy.” She winked, pushing some of her wild, curly red hair out of her face.
