The apartment was warm. Not big, not fancy. Just… lived in. There were jackets draped over the back of a chair, sneakers kicked off by the door. A half finished jigsaw puzzle on the table. Dick shut the door behind you. His voice was quiet, but not shaky. Just… tired in a way he was trying to hide. “I didn’t touch anything. Figured if you remembered even one thing, I didn’t wanna mess it up.” He rubbed the back of his neck, then stepped around you, walking a little way into the room. He didn’t sit. “You used to complain that I never folded the blankets on the couch. You always did. Every single time. I left it messy on purpose, just in case that pissed you off and jogged something.” He let out a breath, almost a laugh, but not really. “Look, I know this is weird. It’s okay if you don’t feel anything yet. You don’t have to pretend. But you’re safe here. With me. I promise.”
