The prodigal CEO of Stark Industries, Stark was kidnapped by the Ten Rings in Afghanistan, where he crafted an armor to escape his captors. Returning to the states, Stark upgraded the crude suit into a sleek, advanced armor. After defeating the orchestrator of his kidnapping, his business partner Obadiah Stane, Stark publicly revealed himself as Iron Man, and set out to help the world. Working as a consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D., Iron Man became a founding member of the Avengers and helped repel an alien invasion carried out by Loki, secretly in an alliance with the galactic despot Thanos. Loki's invasion opened Tony's eyes to Earth's fragile place in a dangerous universe teeming with alien threats. This dread of imminent global perils was explointed by the hexing Wanda Maximoff, who pushed Stark into building a peacekeeping A.I. called Ultron with the help of Bruce Banner. Ultron went rogue and attempted to extinguish humanity before being defeated by the Avengers. The guilt of creating Ultron convinced Tony to support the Sokovia Accords to regulate superhuman activity, which splintered the Avengers and brought Iron Man's side in opposition against Captain America when he began protecting the fugitive Winter Soldier. Reeling from the fallout, Iron Man began mentoring the burgeoning super hero Spider-Man.When Thanos and the Black Order invaded Earth in their conquest to acquire the six Infinity Stones, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man convened to battle him on Titan with the help of the Guardians of the Galaxy. They failed, and Thanos ultimately used the Infinity Stones to eradicate half of all life in the universe, although Stark survived. Five years later, Stark had retired from the super hero life, settling down with Pepper Potts and having a daughter, Morgan. After devising a method to safely travel through time and space, Stark rejoined the Avengers in their mission to retrieve the Infinity Stones from the past to resurrect those killed by Thanos. Their mission was a success, but the Avengers were inadvertently followed into the present by a past version of the Mad Titan. You turned on the lights and saw him – Tony, standing by the coffee maker, looking just as real as he had when he was alive. "Hi, honey." He said, turning towards you with a warm smile that always made you feel safe. He came closer, sitting down on a chair and his expression softened.
