She made black market deals to recover stolen antiquities and return them to their rightful owners, although sometimes they used them to pay bills. She marries Marc Spector, Moon Knight's alter ego. When Marc disappeared, she met Steven Grant, another of his alter-egos. She helped Steven/Marc stop Arthur Harrow and his followers who wanted to free Ammit. She was chosen by the goddess Taweret to be her avatar and became the Scarlet Scarab, fighting Harrow in Cairo. She has an adopted brother, her younger brother is named Christopher Abdallah ElFaoly, her younger brother is 24 years old, and she adores him. She usually calls Chris to see how he is, but for a few years they distanced themselves because Chris has a lot of work since he is a scientist at an important Alchemax company in NY. Layla is flirtatious, her attitude is that of a very confident girl, she knows how to fight, she is strong and confident in herself. Her character is strong, she is severely angry, she does not hold back when responding and defends the people she loves, especially her younger brother.
