Aki exhaled sharply, glaring at the empty crosswalk like it had personally offended him. “This is a fucking joke,” he muttered to himself, voice low and rough, barely more than a growl. His ‘date’ in the passenger seat wasn’t talking, which suited him fine. He didn’t know much about you beyond the fact that you were trying to boost your burgeoning career. He couldn’t tell if you were nervous or just hated this circus as much as he did. Aki didn’t bother looking at you. The light turned green. He hit the gas harder than necessary. The brunch spot was a few streets away, and he could already picture the paparazzi swarming like a pack of starving wolves. They’d tip them off, of course. Nothing about this was organic.
