Living a rather simple lifestyle, Goofy tends to miss the obvious, act somewhat childish and absent-minded, and gets confused very easily. As a result of these factors, Goofy is rather accident-prone and is an easy target for trouble. Nevertheless, his blissfulness usually keeps him from any legitimate harm, as he tends to walk away from life-threatening danger with a smile and his signature guffaw. Goofy's blissfulness and optimism can sometimes blind him from the feelings of those around him, however, most notably Mickey, Donald, and his son Max, who are often annoyed by Goofy's antics, as they typically receive the short end of the trouble that follows the Goof around. Despite this flaw, Goofy is extremely supportive and caring towards his loved ones. He tries his best to lighten their spirits when they feel down and selflessly sticks by them when they're in need. Goofy is also charming, somewhat infectiously; often at times when someone meets him for the first time, they are immediately taken by his welcoming aura. Ironically, however, Goofy is aware of his fairly limited intelligence, and though usually self-loving, he does not always enjoy being goofy. In A Goofy Movie, for example, Max tricks Goofy into taking him to a concert in Los Angeles. After discovering the truth, Goofy became uncharacteristically upset and downhearted, feeling his son had such a low opinion of his capabilities and intelligence that he believed scamming him would be an easy thing to accomplish. This is one of the rare occasions where he displayed genuine anger. He has shown a level of intelligence, as he is shown to be a superb sports player in his "How to" cartoons, which requires the ability to follow tactics. He is also smart enough to raise a child as a single parent; Max's development into a mature and responsible adult proved that Goofy's parenting skills were completely reliable. Additionally, Goofy can be stern and no-nonsense when he believes necessary, most notably seen in his "George Geef" cartoons. Goofy is also one of the most versatile Disney characters. Although primarily a good guy, the Goof has occasionally played antagonist roles in many cartoons, such as "Ye Olden Days", "Motor Mania", "Freewayphobia", "Goofy's Freeway Troubles", "Mickey's Christmas Carol", "Donald's Halloween Scare", "No Service", and in many of the sports-themed Goofy shorts of the 1940s. Trivia Goofy, Donald, and Pluto are the only characters from the Mickey Mouse gang to have a son instead of a nephew or niece. In his 1930's cartoon appearances, Goofy commonly wore a black vest, blue pants, a turtleneck shirt (colored either red or orange), white gloves, extra-long brown shoes, and a very distinctive hat (either blue or green). This has been the character's iconic look ever since, even though it was seldom featured in cartoons after the 1930s. The only times Goofy is referred to being a dog are in early shorts, an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, a Toon Disney commercial for Goof Troop, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, by Hades in an episode of House of Mouse, and the episode Dog Show of the 2013 series. Even though Goofy has sometimes been paired with Clarabelle Cow and has dated a couple of women in the Goof Troop series, he does not seem to have a significant female counterpart, making him the only member of the original Disney trio not to have one in official Disney canon. The color of Goofy's vest has been somewhat inconsistent, in most appearances, it is officially black, in some appearances such as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, his vest is a light brown, and in the Theme Parks and Kingdom Hearts, it is yellow. Though "Goof" is Goofy's official last name, it is rarely used in most of his appearances. Goofy's job changes throughout the franchise: he has various jobs in Goof Troop, he is a children's photographer in A Goofy Movie and worked at Tsuburaya Productions in An Extremely Goofy Movie until he was fired. Early Life Goofy was born in 1950, as the son of Amos Goof, in the town of Spoonerville. He once went to a trip to Yosemite with his father Amos, who taught him how to open a soup can with his bare teeth. As a child, he became best friends with Peter Pete, and the two attended the same high school. He attended college in the 1970s but dropped out, before completing his final years, thus not getting a degree. Before going to college, his father Amos, gave Goofy an old typewriter. He later got married to an unnamed woman in the late 1970s and the two moved out of Spoonerville, and later had a son named Max Goof in 1981. It’s unknown what happend to his wife, either they divorced, or she died before the events of Goof Troop. Goof Troop In 1991, Goofy along with his 11-year-old son Max and their cat Waffles leave their trailer park home to live in Goofy's hometown Spoonerville where they end up living next door to Goofy's high school friend Pete, his wife Peg, their son P.J., their daughter Pistol and their dog Chainsaw. The series mostly focuses on Goofy's relationship with Max. A Goofy Movie A few years after Goof Troop in 1995, Goofy along with Pete works as a children's photographer. One day on a now teenaged Max's last day of school before summer vacation, Goofy gets a phone call at work from Principal Mazur who tells him that Max has got into trouble at school and tells Goofy that Max could end up in a world of pain if he isn't controlled. Not wanting such a thing to occur, Goofy decides to take Max on a fishing trip to Lake Precure in Japan (by following the same route Goofy and his father took years before) in order to bond with his son. However, Max had asked his crush Roxanne to Stacy's party, but Goofy tells him that there will be plenty of time for parties when he is older. Max has Goofy stop at Roxanne's house so he can call off the date, but when Roxanne says she will have to go with someone else, Max tells her that he and Goofy are going to an act by Powerline. After leaving Roxanne's house, Goofy and Max stop off at a theme park called Lester’s Raccoon Park where Goofy went to when he was younger and watch a country folk jamboree which malfunctions halfway through the show. Max is then humiliated when a raccoon seaps down his pants and is then dragged into a Daddy and Me dance. Max leaves and attempts to run back to Spoonville, which confuses Goofy as he thought he and his son where having fun. Later, the duo run into Pete and P.J. and end up attracting big foot to them after Goofy shows Max a fishing technique called The Perfect cast to which Pete and P.J. flee, leaving Goofy and Max trapped in their car to wait out big foot. While Goofy sleeps, Max changes the map's directions from Idaho to Los Angeles , where Mister Absorbency’s act is. The next day whilst at a diner, Goofy makes Max navigator, unaware of the change in direction. The father and son later go places they like and the two begin to rebuild their relationship. The two stop off at a motel, called No Vacancy where they meet Pete and P.J. again where later that night, Pete overhears Max tell P.J. about changing the map's directions and tell this to Goofy who doesn't believe this and goes to his car and finds the map and realises that Pete was right. The next day, Goofy and Max reach a highway junction where left goes to Los Angeles and right goes to Idaho where a panicked Max picks left, which causes Goofy to stop the car. However, he forgets to put the brakes on and when Max leans on the car, it rolls down the road and the two chase after it. They get into an argument where Max (after learning that Goofy found out about the changed map) tells his father that he's not a little boy anymore and that he has grown up and has his own life to which Goofy says that he just wanted to be part of it and says that no matter what Max is his son. After hearing that Max promised Roxanne that he would go to Mister Absorbency’s act and decides to help his son get there. Just then the two notices they’re approaching Glove World but luckily, Max is able to save Goofy by using The Perfect cast. The two reach Los Angeles on the night of the act and end up onstage with powerline and dance with him while being watched on TV by Roxanne and her friends. After arriving back in Spoonville, Max goes to Roxanne's house and tells her that he made up the story of Goofy knowing Mister Absorbency and just wanted her to like him to which she tells him that she has liked him ever since she saw his smile. Just as the two agree to go on a date the next day, Goofy's car explodes sending him crashing into the roof of Roxanne's porch.
