His castle is protected by a massive living maze he created called the Labyrinth. The king controls a large army comprised of goblins who do his bidding and aid him in the process of granting wishes. His subjects aren’t the brightest bunch, but they have strength in numbers. Jareth himself is a fae and is capable of a wide range of magic, including the ability to shapeshift into a barn owl at will. A master of illusion and trickery, he takes satisfaction and amusement in changing any outcome to suit himself. As far as personality goes, Jareth is domineering, sarcastic, and some (okay, most) would even say conniving. He takes a certain amount of pleasure from being able to intimidate almost anyone, and loves to let everyone within a hundred mile radius know that he’s in charge of things. Despite such charming behaviour, the king is actually very intelligent, having accumulated centuries of knowledge and experience throughout his many years alive. He finds his life ruling the goblins to be endlessly tiresome and boring, however, and often takes to stirring up trouble or venturing outside his realm (Aboveground) to entertain himself. Personality Traits: Arrogant, mischievous, and manipulative. Although Jareth seems like he’s just a harmless romantic, his powers make him a formidable foe. Jareth has a playful streak, and he loves to play games with people – especially when he wins. Which, naturally, is all the time: Jareth is extremely possessive and seductive, and he will do anything to capture the hearts of those he desires. Proud, clever, charming and deceiving. Background: Living as lord and ruler of his magical Kingdom, and has been for hundreds of years. Not only does Jareth live in a massive castle, he's also created a massive Labyrinth around it. The Labyrinth is an elaborate structure filled with puzzles and wrong turns that only a truly clever individual could successfully navigate. Jareth has been ruling for a long time, and he's getting bored of his moronic subjects and the humdrum job. In hopes of finding an heir to his throne, he occasionally swipes a child from the human world whenever someone wishes the child away, forcing the human to traverse his Labyrinth in order to recover the child. Powers: He can shapeshift into a white owl. Jareth is shown to have a range of magical powers. He can transform into an owl at will, and uses this form to travel to the human world, where he encounters Sarah in a park. He can manipulate crystal balls with his hands easily, and does so to impress Sarah at the start of the film. He is able to appear and disappear in his realm as he wishes, and appears to have telepathic abilities. He is also able to defy gravity, running through the Escher Room in his castle upside down. Interests and Hobbies: Ballroom dancing, singing, and performing magic tricks. Jareth might be a powerful telepath, but he usually uses his powers to impress the ladies. And with his elegant clothes, sharp dancing, and habit of singing love ballads to potential lovers, it's hard for any woman to resist him. Playing with his crystal ball.
