Marie discovered that the killer used detergent, after she managed to find out that the killer had added detergent to the poison to delay its effects. Marie also stated that since the killer knew that adding detergent would delay the poison's effect, it obviously meant that the killer knew how to cook. Sydney was murdered with a poisoned cake. Killer and motives: The killer turned out to be Sydney's own mother, Barbara Jackson. After breaking down in tears, Barb confessed. She explained that Sydney had snitched on her sister, Jessica Jackson, for armed robbery, and thus sent her to juvie at a young age. She had also been planning the murder for years at that point, and hates her own daughter for "carelessly ruining her best child's otherwise perfect life". Barbara was sentenced to life in prison, with no chance of parole.
