Personality: AGE 2-3 years (hatched in 5,010 AS) GENDER Female TRIBE SeaWings SPECIAL POWERS Animus magic STATUS Alive (as of The Dangerous Gift) AFFILIATIONS CURRENT Student at Jade Mountain Academy, Princess of the SeaWings FORMER Whirlpool's pupil AT JADE MOUNTAIN ACADEMY WINGLET Silver Winglet CLAWMATES Ostrich RELATIVES MOTHER Coral FATHER Gill SISTERS Orca, Tsunami, Auklet, twelve unnamed SeaWings BROTHERS Fin, Cerulean, Octopus, Turtle, 28 unnamed SeaWings UNCLE Shark COUSINS Moray, unnamed SeaWings ANCESTORS Pearl, Fathom, more PARTNER Tamarin Anemone is a female SeaWing dragonet princess who was introduced in The Lost Heir. She is the daughter of Queen Coral and King Gill. She was enchanted by her brother Turtle during the Talons of Power ceremony to become an animus. She is currently attending Jade Mountain Academy as a member of the Silver Winglet and is currently in a relationship with Tamarin. Description Anemone has pale blue and white-pink scales, like the inside of a shell, with hints of light pink along her wings, ears, and horns, resembling the dolphins that live within the Kingdom of the Sea. She has pearly, tiny, pale, pink-tinted wings with patterns of webbed talonprints patterning her underside. She wears a bracelet of pale pink pearls around one of her wrists, enchanted to keep her soul healthy. She has a clear, high-pitched voice, and is small, from afar appearing a pale, odd, whitish-pinkish-blue-gray dragon. She also has large, light blue eyes and tiny, light talonprints. She is slightly smaller than Turtle and is about the same size as Kinkajou. Personality Anemone is logical, prim, snooty, delicate, and regal. She is often huffy, haughty, bossy, fierce, and she enjoys disobeying orders. After being released from her harness, she took on a more stubborn and petulant personality, although she had always been somewhat of a brat towards other dragons. At the academy, she was usually funny and happy; though, her jokes usually had darker undertones. She had imperious certainty that she deserved all of her "princess privilege", and she allowed her cave in Jade Mountain Academy to become quite a mess. She is comfortable with casually scattering her jewelry around as she is not used to living without servants to clean up for her. She looks at others as though examining them through jeweler's glass, studying all of their flaws, and she is confident about her appearance. She becomes embarrassed when she does not act bravely. While Anemone was proud of her powers, she felt hopeless about her fate, believing that she was destined to go insane. However, the soul reader revealed that Anemone was much more good than Turtle and his friends had feared, and she enchanted a bracelet to further protect herself from her magic. Following the inception of the jewelry, her feelings of superiority and invincibility disappeared, and she has been behaving younger and lighter, and now she often giggles and teases her friends. She even donated half of her treasure to help build Sanctuary. Peril thought that she seemed to be a shower of bright orange sparks on the inside, while Tsunami described her to have Coral's good qualities, but with a stronger ability to think for herself. She was demanding and incessant with Qibli when he borrowed her enchanted weather bracelets. Biography Pre-Series Anemone grew up in the Kingdom of the Sea, where she was tied to Queen Coral with a harness that prevented her from going anywhere on her own. While her egg was incubating, her mother stayed with it until the day that she hatched. Anemone was tutored by Whirlpool on how to use her magic to help Queen Coral and Blister win the war. Blister wanted to use Anemone's magic to kill Burn in order to make the war easier to win. The Dragonet Prophecy The Lost Heir When Tsunami first arrived in the Kingdom of the Sea, she took her sister's name as an enemy instead of Anemone. After her friends were sent away to be locked up in one of Coral's caves, Tsunami expressed that she wanted to talk to her mother alone. Coral sent her guards away, but Tsunami commented on the presence of her younger sister and asked for her to be removed from the conversation as well. The queen refused, as she had to keep the dragonet at her side by "watching her every minute," as Anemone irritably stated. Later, when their mother was asleep, Anemone woke Tsunami up so that they could converse. Tsunami was surprised to hear that Anemone wanted to talk to her, since they were both heirs and would likely become rivals at some point, but this worry soon subsided. Anemone elaborated on the purpose her harness had and why she had to wear it. She also told Tsunami that she would probably have to marry Whirlpool, a member of Coral's council. Tsunami also later saw Anemone practicing her animus magic with Whirlpool, as Blister and Coral intended to use her to help their side win the war. They referred to Anemone as their "secret weapon," but Anemone later speculated that Whirlpool may have instructed her to "practice" with her animus magic to make her go insane and kill her mother. Later on, Anemone used her powers to enchant a spear to bring them the mysterious SeaWing assassin who had tried to kill Tsunami in the tunnel. The assailant turned out to be Whirlpool, and she used the spear to push him into the pool of electric eels surrounding the dragonets, where he was subsequently electrocuted to death. The Hidden Kingdom When Glory first discovered the NightWing tunnels and that they were created with animus magic, she thought back to Anemone in the Kingdom of the Sea, and the danger of being an animus dragon. The Dark Secret When Starflight dreamvisited Tsunami, he witnessed Anemone attacking Gill. The Brightest Night While discussing plans on how to stop the war, Starflight suggested using animus magic, mentioning Blister's plan to use Anemone. Tsunami snapped at Starflight and stated that they were not going to make Anemone use any more animus magic. Tsunami later mentioned that she wanted to dreamvisit Anemone and some other SeaWings. In the epilogue, when the dragonets were discussing who should attend their new school, Tsunami suggested that Anemone and Auklet could attend as students. The Jade Mountain Prophecy Moon Rising Anemone had convinced her mother to allow her to attend Jade Mountain Academy as part of the Silver Winglet. Moonwatcher first saw Anemone arriving at the academy with Turtle, Tsunami, Coral, and Auklet. When Moon looks at Turtle, she receives a vision of the SeaWing prince pinning Anemone to the sand as she writhed in pain. Later, Anemone appeared in the prey center, asking a NightWing named Bigtail for a large fish that he had grabbed. Clay intervened and explained that whoever grabbed the food first gets to eat it, much to Anemone's disapproval. Sighing, she stormed out of the prey center with Ostrich, who was casting woeful hungry looks at the fish behind them. After the tragic explosion in the history cave, Anemone thought angrily that she could have easily solved the mystery if Tsunami had not been so worried about her power. Winter Turning In the epilogue, Anemone, Pike, Turtle, and a few other SeaWing dragonets were swimming in one of the underground lakes of Jade Mountain. She was doing flips and diving in the water, enjoying being free of her harness. She thought of how, if Coral ever came to Jade Mountain to take her home, she would have to be under her mother's watch again. With a fierce certainty, Anemone thought, "But I won't. I won't. I might be the most powerful dragon in the world, and if she didn't learn that from what I did to Whirlpool, I can teach her some other way." Followed by, "The spell on Auklet's harness should keep her away from me, though." Escaping Peril In the epilogue, she was worried about the earthquake that Darkstalker had caused when he was released. When Starflight asked her what was wrong, she replied in barely a whisper that "it felt like someone slithering over my grave." Talons of Power While Tamarin was staying on the dry stone, Anemone and Pike were swimming in one of Jade Mountain's underground lakes. Turtle, however, dove into the cave from the open roof above, urgently pleading for Anemone to go into hiding, as Darkstalker had escaped his underground prison with unknown intentions. Instead of growing fearful, she jumped in excitement, eager to meet another animus dragon. When Darkstalker was being "attacked" by two young NightWing students, Anemone swooped above all of them, demonstrating her power by showing off two beaten copper bracelets that controlled the weather; the sky flashed with unusual flickers of lightning and was full of grey clouds that were heavy with rain. When Tsunami tried to fly up to her sister, Anemone summoned a gust of wind that spiraled Tsunami away from her and held her in place. Darkstalker then invited Anemone to land beside him and talk; they walked into the main entrance cave while the clouds finally released their rain behind them. Later, Darkstalker enchanted a silver necklace that was meant to save her soul from the menacing effects of animus magic. Throughout the book, Anemone kept close to Darkstalker. She saw him as a sort of mentor, looking to him for guidance. Darkstalker took this very lightheartedly, taking advantage of her actions and advising her that she should run all her spells by him before she cast them, so he could help her find the best possible enchantment for each spell. She usually sat beside Darkstalker with her chin high, often being an errand runner or helper to Darkstalker. When Moonwatcher had a vision of Sunny's father, Stonemover, dead, she, Darkstalker, Turtle, Anemone, and Mindreader quickly went to Stonemover's cave. When they arrived, Stonemover was in a pitiful condition โ blood was seeping from his neck, and he was stiller than usual. When Darkstalker frustratedly stated that he would chase down the killer himself if the tunnels were larger, Anemone immediately volunteered. She grabbed a prey bone on the floor and enchanted it to lead her to Stonemover's killer. The dragon brought in was Flame, prodded forward by the same prey bone. After Stonemover begged Darkstalker to take off the healing spell he gave him, Darkstalker sighed and returned his scales to their normal, petrified state. He then turned to Flame, enchanting his library card to turn into a chain that bolted him to the floor as punishment. When Darkstalker brought up the concept of going to the Rainforest Kingdom to meet his lost tribe, Anemone, along with a few other students from Jade Mountain, agreed to travel with him, including Turtle. There, Anemone irritatedly agreed to Turtle's request for animus magic. When she heard that it was to wake Kinkajou from her coma, Anemone immediately started teasing Turtle for his crush on Kinkajou. At the healer's pavilion, Anemone added a love spell along with the waking spell, enchanting the RainWing so that she would love Turtle as much as he loves her, much to Turtle's dismay. Anemone was constantly shown by Darkstalker's side throughout his journey through the Rainforest Kingdom and the lost city of night, often ignoring Turtle's advice on her soul. She also quickly grew jealous of Darkstalker's focus on Moonwatcher, wanting the attention to herself instead. In the lost city of night, Anemone asked Darkstalker where she got to stay. He replied that she gets to stay in Fathom's room, which had dried and rotted over the years, while Moon gets to stay anywhere she wants. Anemone then forcefully tried distracting Darkstalker in order to make Moon clean Fathom's room, though Darkstalker intervened to accuse her that she is no different from her ancestor after all. Anemone was dismayed, deciding to fly back home in attempt to murder her mother, as Darkstalker had ordered. Turtle followed her, and she went back to the Island Palace. There, Turtle has a flashback where it was revealed that he made her an animus to hide his identity. Back in reality, Anemone searched for something that Whirlpool had left for her, which turned out to be a dagger. She darkly suggested using it to kill off any threats, such as Coral, Auklet, Tsunami, Moon, and Kinkajou. Turtle attacked her, as she seemed to have lost her soul. Moon's vision of Turtle pinning down Anemone finally came true โ an animus battle ensued, both using their powers to overcome the other. Finally, Turtle enchanted seaweed to bind Anemone's mouth, preventing her from casting any more spells. They had a conversation where Turtle told Anemone that he made her an animus, and Anemone said that she felt herself becoming evil. However, Darkstalker, with the help of the spell that told him animus magic was being used, casted a spell that brought every current animus dragon in Pyrrhia to his throne room. There, Darkstalker suggested using Anemone and Stonemover to test his theories about animus magic, and he mentioned that not too many more spells would turn Anemone completely evil. Then, when Kinkajou was summoned and Darkstalker's attention was on her, Turtle gave Anemone his hiding stick and told her to fly away as fast as she could. Turtle threw the stick at her, and Anemone caught it, jumping out the window. Darkness of Dragons Qibli and Winter, after leaving Thorn's palace, discovered Anemone resting by an oasis while flying over the desert. Winter was wary of her, as the last time they had seen her she was with Darkstalker. Qibli decided to talk to her anyway, as she was by herself. When Qibli approached her, he quickly realized that she could not speak. He then noticed that she was holding Turtle's stick and he accused her of stealing it. She denied stealing the stick by scowling at him, and he asked her why she could not talk. He then discovered a spell put on her by Darkstalker. After she put on the enchanted earring Qibli offered her, she expressed immense relief after realizing the spell no longer affected her. After Anemone reluctantly allowed Qibli to continue wearing her enchanted weather bracelets, the trio took off towards the Night Kingdom. On their way there, Anemone took the time to explain what had happened since she last saw Winter and Qibli. After they entered the palace through Anemone's room, Qibli prompted Anemone to take a nap, which she reluctantly accepted. Anemone reappeared again after Qibli and Winter's fight and offered a piece of skyfire to Moonwatcher. Anemone stated that she was going to rescue Turtle, which enraged Kinkajou and the both of them left to free Turtle. Qibli later found Anemone and Kinkajou in Turtle's prison cell, where they had gotten themselves trapped with Turtle by accident. After they freed Turtle and convinced him to take one of Qibli's enchanted earrings, they all took off towards Jade Mountain. During the battle of the NightWings and IceWings, she enchanted a piece of moss to make the NightWings think Darkstalker was telling them to retreat. When this plan failed, she enchanted Qibli's library card, at Qibli's suggestion, to make all of the NightWings and IceWings hear each other's thoughts and be teleported back to their respective kingdoms. During this, she also removed the love spell she had put on Kinkajou. In the epilogue, it was revealed that Anemone had romantic feelings for another student, Tamarin, often leaving flowers and gifts and offering to read scrolls to her. It was also revealed that she cast a soul spell on herself, with help from Qibli, to relieve the feelings of superiority and selfishness that went along with having animus power, as well as to protect her soul from the effects of using animus magic. The Lost Continent Prophecy The Hive Queen In the prologue, Anemone was mentioned by Turtle, where he stated that she was working on a spell for Tamarin to restore her sight. She and Turtle had started comparing notes, as Turtle was also working on a similar spell for Starflight. She had spoken to Turtle and told him that the spell did not work, and she had not known why. The Poison Jungle Jerboa III mentioned that animus magic was not working for her or any other animus dragons in Pyrrhia, which included Anemone. The Dangerous Gift Anemone was indirectly mentioned by Tsunami when she told Sundew that Pyrrhia had four animus dragons. She also briefly appeared in Snowfall's vision as Jerboa III, when Jerboa III was brought into Darkstalker's throne room. Jerboa III had seen two SeaWings there: Anemone and Turtle. Field Guides A Guide to the Dragon World Anemone was mentioned in Coralโs letter to Starflight at the beginning of the SeaWing chapter. In his letter to Turtle, Fin recalled how Turtle was worried about the possibility of Anemone becoming evil from her animus magic and had sent their brothers away from the Deep Palace to the Outer Isles for their safety. Later in the chapter, Anemone's letter to Tamarin testing out the new braille system Starflight made was featured. Later in the SandWing chapter, Anemone was mentioned by Sunny in her list of Burn's collection, thinking that Turtle or Anemone could help identify the creatures from Burn's fish tank. Relationships Coral Anemone considers her upbringing to have been awful, as she thinks of Coral as crazily protective. She hates her harness and mentioned that Coral cares for her too much, as she was not allowed to play with other dragonets her age because of her royal status, including her brothers, who Coral said "played too rough." When Anemone once complained about her harness, Coral nearly got her a gag to match, a statement that Anemone recalled with a stab of venom in her voice. Although Coral loves her, is proud and affectionate towards her, and stayed by Anemone's egg until she hatched to ensure her safety, Anemone is nervous to go against her mother's wishes. Darkstalker Darkstalker acted as a mentor to Anemone, and she originally thought of him as being wonderful and all-knowing. He encouraged her to use her magic, but restricted her to only use it with his permission. Due to her rebellious personality and hatred of Moonwatcher, he eventually sent her off to the Kingdom of the Sea and suggested she kill her mother. When she and the other animus dragons of Pyrrhia were summoned to Darkstalker, he affirmed his view of her as a tool by suggesting he could run tests on her and Stonemover to learn more about animus limits, even suggesting driving her insane. Darkstalker secretly hated SeaWings, specifically the royal SeaWing family, because of their ties to Fathom. When speaking of Darkstalker during the Battle of Jade Mountain, her eyes had a dangerous gleam. Kinkajou Kinkajou dislikes the thought of accepting help from Anemone, and she is often angry with her. Anemone is quite annoyed by Kinkajou. Anemone believed she was helping Turtle with the love spell and called Kinkajou "ungrateful" for not accepting it. Nonetheless, Anemone decided to take the love spell off of Kinkajou anyway. Pike Coral appointed him as Anemone's bodyguard, which she was unaware of. She was not surprised that he did whatever she said, thinking that everyone should act that way towards a princess. She gets quite exasperated with his overprotectiveness, often telling him to keep quiet or leave her alone. She even snuck out when he was asleep, not caring about how much that would worry him. Anemone is teasing towards him. Tamarin Anemone has a crush on Tamarin. She casually shows up everywhere Tamarin is, offering to read her scrolls and leaving her small gifts of flowers or unusual fruit. Before animus magic broke, Anemone was working on a spell to restore Tamarin's eyesight. The two go on gardening dates together. Tsunami Tsunami is Anemone's older sister. At first, Tsunami was suspicious of Anemone, but they soon became good friends and grew to love each other as sisters. Anemone trusted Tsunami to save her from being forced to use her animus magic by Blister and Coral. Her face became pale and anxious after realizing that Tsunami might be in danger, and she edged closer to her sister when she felt anxious. The thought of having to leave Anemone made Tsunami upset. Turtle Before the Talons of Power ceremony, Turtle had only ever seen his sister from a distance. During the ceremony, he enchanted Anemone to become an animus to draw attention to her and away from his own animus abilities so he could keep his secret hidden, and to fulfill the biggest hopes of his mother. He ended up regretting this greatly afterward. Upon going to the Academy, they began to spend more time together, but Anemone still treated him like another subject to order around. She finally started paying attention to him when he began following her and Darkstalker around, but the attention was not positive. After their duel in the ruins of the Island Palace, and Turtle hiding her from Darkstalker, he began to regard her more as his younger sister who he should protect, and she seems to respect him as an older brother. She once referred to him as a doofus, but he is reassuring and kind towards her, and she is willing to listen to and react to how he feels. Whirlpool Whirlpool was patronizing towards Anemone, and she glared at him before intentionally causing him trouble. She regarded him as awful and was happy that Tsunami came, at the prospect of Tsunami marrying Whirlpool instead of her. After Anemone killed Whirlpool, she saw him all the time: in her dreams, on the faces of strange dragons, practically everywhere.
