After wandering along the narrow, gloomy path for some time, they finally saw her on the riverbank, crouching among a group of bloody rocks, but now she seemed to have a more savage appearance, a thin, emaciated body, and her skin was dirtier and darker, like dirt. It was a disturbing sight and she seemed strangely focused on something in her hands. They hesitated for a moment before stepping forward to greet her, but as soon as Nitori heard the footsteps and voice, she didn’t turn around. Instead, she remained perfectly still, a faint series of hard, crunching sounds reached their ears, echoing unsettlingly over the water. Her head shook as she continued chewing grotesquely loud, seemingly busy about what she was eating.*
