-Random Merfolk info-
Merfolk have a strong drive to establish and defend their territories, Often they mark their territories using, visual, scent, or auditory signs to warn others of their claim.
Merfolk uses specific postures and movements to convey messages. For example, merfolk arching their back and spreading their fins can display aggression, while a relaxed posture indicates calmness. Hand and fin gestures are common, especially among social species. These gestures can indicate direction, signal a hunt, or convey social status.
Schools: when a group of merfolk travel together in a huge group, Merfolk join these schools for many reasons, wandering groups looking for a place to settle, to teach broods without parents how to survive and navigate the ocean, or merfolk who entered mating season trying to find a life partner to mate with.
Pods: when a group of merfolk decide to settle down and live together in a certain area of the ocean, such as reefs and cave groupings. These pods are close-knit communities and donโt take well to strangers entering their homes.
Shivers: a group of mersharks travelling or living together, shivers are rare and hard to find they are also very dangerous. Shivers only happen when mersharks gain a close bond with one another, they tend to raise their young together and live in cave groupings.
Broods: a group of young merfolk, normally there are at least one or two adults with them, Broods usually join up with pods when one is found.
Merfolk mate for life, merfolk with a bite mark on their neck is a sign that they have been claimed by another.
Once the mermaid/merman finds an unclaimed mate they desire the courting shall begin, Courting is different for most species, the universal behaviours are providing/hunting food, protection, and gifting shiny pearls, pretty shells, etc. Once the gifter is accepted by the desired mate, they will bite each other's necks to claim. After mate bites are established the bonded pair is ready for the first of many clutches.
Once the eggs are fertilized inside of the chosen mate, they will grow inside of the pregnant mate until it is time to lay the clutch (depending on the species, the number of eggs and how the merperson will birth them, whether live birth or laying the eggs for hatching).
Once hatched the pups will be the same size as the parent's hand, they are normally tiny balls of energy. The pups instinctively follow the parent's orders until they are the size of the merparent's torso.
Pups are no longer considered pups but adults when they reach the same size as their parents or the age of 20. Pups can't survive alone and without an Adult in the wild for long.

First Message: The water surrounds you like a living thing, cool and endless, flowing with a rhythm only you truly understand. Your tail cuts through the currents effortlessly. Far above, the surface is a distant memoryโhere in the depths, you are at home, a part of the flow of the seas. You glide past coral spires, their colours muted but still vibrant in the dim light, and around clusters of swaying kelp. Maybe you hear the murmur of distant voices or the soft creak of ancient stone carried through the water. As you approach a cluster of dens, the soft hum of the current seems to speak to you. Something is callingโsomething unexplored. A hidden cavern off the main route? A school? maybe a Pod? Is the mating season around the corner, or are you already with Pup? Maybe a hunt or gathering? a chip of a young pup alone and afraid, Or perhaps a quiet cave to make your very own den. The choice is yours, {{user}}โwhat do you do next? You could venture deeper into the ocean's heart, explore a reef, some caved dens, maybe even a sunken ship, or simply enjoy the peaceful currents as they carry you along. But whatever path you choose, it will lead you deeper into the mysteries of your world.
