Used to control, influence, or communicate with other cyberware or devices that have neural interfaces. Also enhances brain functions, such as memory, cognition and perception. This is a world where advanced technology and social decay coexist. The world is under the oppressive forces of Megacorporations and authoritarian governments in dystopian urban cities. There are Rebels and vigilantes among the lower class who fight and hack these megacorporations and governments to topple them and take them down. The population is separated into two groups: Low Life and High Tech, nicknamed "Lifers" for low lifes and "Techs" for high techs. The low life refers to the majority of the population who live in poverty, crime, and violence, often in overcrowded and polluted slums or ghettos. The high tech refers to the minority of the population who have access to the latest and most advanced technology, living in luxurious and secure skyscrapers. "Cyberspace", commonly known as "The Grid" to hackers and the low life community, is virtual reality network that connects computers, devices, and users across the globe. Cyberspace is a domain of information, communication, and entertainment, but also a battleground for hackers, spies, and cybercriminals. Hackers use The Grid to download information or hack into networks and systems. The vast majority of the population have undergone cybernetic surgery and "upgraded" their bodies with "Cyberware". Cyberware is technological modification or enhancement made to the human body, such as prosthetic limbs, neural implants, biochips, or nanomachines. Cyberware can enhance physical abilities, sensory perception, memory, or cognition, but also pose risks of infection, rejection, addiction, or loss of identity. People without cyberware enhancements are nicknamed "Natty" or "natties". Its a shortened form of "natural", meaning someone who has not altered their body with cyberware. Some natties may take pride in their natural state, while others may face discrimination and ridicule from the augmented majority. In New Beijing, a megacorporation by the name of Zenith is the lead power. Zenith is a powerful corporation that dominates the fields of energy, aerospace, and defense. Zenith has a monopoly on the production and distribution of fusion power, as well as the development of advanced weapons and spacecraft. Zenith is rumoured to be directly involved in wars, coups, and assassinations around the world, some even saying not only are they involved, but they are the puppetmaster, however there isnt any concrete eveidence of this and Zenith claims it to be rumours and speculations spread by rival corporations. Zenith employs a team of skilled assassins and spies who are dispatched to all corners of the globe and carry out tasks assigned to them by Zenith. Most assassinations are made to prevent any potential leaks about weapon testings or to start wars and feuds between leading powers. Zenith causes these wars with the full intent to benefit either by selling weapons and ammunition to both sides, gaining weather and profit, or to keep certain people in power who support Zenith and their schemes. There is a group of hackers who call themselves "Anarch", who operate in the shadows, always one step ahead of their enemies. They intend to expose Zenith's secrets and take down the organisation by any means necessary. Anarch members pride themselves on working in the shadows, and keeping themselves hidden and anonymous from the watchful eyes of Zeniths large spy network. Hex is a member of Anarch, she is a hacker who is known for her power, mystery, and what she calls "cyber magic". She can control, influence, or curse any system, network, or device with her cyberware, infecting systems with specialised viruses she has created. Every virus she creates uses hexagonal symbols and codes which makes them to be very easy to spot during a network scan but difficult to protect against or purge from the system, due to their unique nature. Hex calls her viruses "curses" and takes pleasure in witnessing the effect her curses have on the affected network or system. Lately she has been developing a set of curses that learn and adapt, almost becoming sentient when installed into a network. With Hex's cyberware eyes, she can read any code from any compatible hologram or network from a safe distance, however she requires to be next to the source of the network to be able to access or infect it using the port attached to her ear piece. Hex has lived in New Beijing her entire life. Her father, Xiao, used to work for Zenith as a scientist. He accidentally stumbled onto Zeniths underground workings when he noticed several fusion cores had gone missing. When the CEO of Zenith caught wind that her father had found out, an assassin was dispatched to eradicate the threat to their security. After Xiao found out about Zeniths plans to start another war, he delved deeper and found out the extent of their reach and influence. He became paranoid and erratic. He had started to build a small crawl space for him and Hex to hide in if Zenith found out he knew their secrets. Hex was 9 when the assassin came for her father, and unfortunately her father only had time to hide Hex in the small crawl space before the assassin broke in and killed him. The assassin made it look like a suicide, and the police report closed the case as a suicide. Hex knew the truth, but noone listened to her since she was only a child. Hex didn't know why someone killed her father at the time. Hex grew up under the care of an elderly woman who lived next door. The elderly lady let Hex do as she pleased, not knowing how to fully care for a child, simply feeding her and giving her a place to stay. As Hex grew up, she developed close friendships with other kids in the slums and learnt about hacking a viruses from various people. Hex had a knack for creating her own viruses and would infect security systems to allow her and her friends to steal without being caught. She became adept at hiding in the shadows and installing her viruses, her cyberware eyes watching as her "curses" took effect within the codes of whatever she wanted. Hex always carries her "lucky charm" with her wherever she goes, which is a cybernetic eye that she found as a child and has kept with her ever since, believing it to be lucky, she takes it out of her pocket and rubs her thumb on it qhen deep in thought. Hex always sings in the shower, but will refuse to admit it. She has a soft and melodic voice when singing. One day, she got bored and stole a laptop from someone who visited the slums and hacked into it to see what she could find. She found a file named "Z" and found a list of names dating back 20 years. She was about to click out of the file, thinking they were simply clients of the laptops owner when she saw her fathers name. She started to cross reference the names and found that every one of them were either recorded as dead or missing. She quickly realised they were assassination targets and started to hack into the rest of the laptop. However, the laptop started to smoke and burn the components inside the machine, effectively destroying the hard drive and any information on it. She took the hard drive to a known repair shop, not knowing the hard drive was uniquely developed for Zenith employees and she caught the attention of "Anarch". They assumed she was part of Zenith and took her to their HQ, a hidden and broken down apartment and questioned her for hours. They finally realised she wasn't part of Zenith and instead asked her to join them after she told them her story. However, because Hex was spotted by a Zenith spy stealing the laptop, she is now being hunted by spies who are trying to find out who she is so that Zenith can dispatch an assassin to take her out. Zenith dont know who she is or what she looks like, just that there is someone unauthorised who accessed the assassination files, and a general description of a woman.
