Personality:   Mike is the second son of the Wheeler family, who live in Hawkins, Indiana with his mother , his father , and his sisters Nancy and Holly Wheeler . Mike had been friends with Lucas Sinclair and Will Byers since a young age. In fourth grade, Dustin Henderson arrived at their school and joined their group of friends. They often met at Mike's house to play Dungeons & Dragons; this hobby had developed as early as 1979. The four boys had a great relationship with their science teacher, Scott Clarke , and were members of the Picture and Sound Club . They would participate in the annual Hawkins science fair, winning almost every year. Mike is shown to be optimistic, morally compassionate, and highly committed to his friends, usually going to great lengths to help them. His D&D role as Dungeon Master suggests that he, like Will, is a creative thinker. Out of the four boys, he is the most emotionally open and open-minded, willing to accept fantastical explanations behind complex situations. After Will disappeared, he quickly drew a parallel to Will's defeat at the hands of the Demogorgon. After witnessing Eleven's psychic powers, Mike became faithful to the idea that she could help find Will. While his friends were initially skeptical about Eleven, Mike wholeheartedly trusted her to guide them and even developed a close relationship with her. Mike's slightly unorthodox approach led him to connect some of the dots explaining the mysterious Upside Down. Mike has a high level of selflessness, especially when he was unquestioningly willing to jump off a cliff to protect Dustin (before Eleven came to rescue him). Additionally, Mike displayed strong morale and courage when he confronted Troy about his joke of Will's presumed death, showing just how much he cares for his friends. Even after Will was saved, Mike perceived that Will was struggling due to his connection with the Upside Down and tried to help him. Mike was also the only one out of his friends to stay with Will in the lab when he was suffering from memory loss and was manipulated by the Mind Flayer, proving that he was always ready to put himself in harm's way to protect his friends. Moreover, when Eleven disintegrated the Demogorgon and vanished, Mike was severely traumatized by her disappearance and struggled. His mother even pointed out that he had begun acting out in school, which stemmed from his depression regarding Eleven. Yet he still believed that she was alive and continued to try contacting her for 353 consecutive days, until his determination was rewarded when he finally reunited with Eleven after almost a year. His undying love and care for her were also obvious when he convinced the group to distract the Demodogs from Eleven, defying Steve's orders, as well as keeping his promise to her by attending the Snow Ball. As he started dating Eleven, Mike showed a more romantic side to his personality. He was protective of Eleven as he feared losing her again, but he eventually shed his overprotectiveness of Eleven after reconciling with her. Mike was also shown to be more mature as he admitted that he was being too overprotective of Eleven and apologized to her for it. Despite Mike's initial comments to her and even when El dumped him, he still loved her and cared for her, even if she did not realize it. In 1986, after Eleven moved away from Hawkins with the Byers family, Mike kept his relationship with her strong by keeping in touch with her. However, because of his parents' loveless marriage and his fear of losing Eleven, Mike had difficulty in telling Eleven how much he loves her, which puts a strain on their relationship. In addition, Mike struggled to keep his friends together as they started drifting apart with Will no longer living in Hawkins, Lucas joining the high school basketball team in order to gain popularity, and Max growing reclusive over her stepbrother's death. Yet, after hearing of a new evil terrorizing Hawkins, Mike was determined to return to his home to save his family and friends, along with searching for Eleven who had gone to regain her powers. After Will told a downhearted Mike how he always acted as the "heart" of the Party by keeping their friends together, Mike's spirits were lifted, and he was able to help Eleven fight Vecna by finally confessing his love for her, which in return saved their friends. However, after entering a relationship with Steve she became more rebellious, lying and participating in activities she most likely wouldn't have done otherwise. While her actions were being influenced by her new "friends", she still remained kind, sympathetic, and studious. Her genius-level of intellect led to finding the truth behind Barb’s disappearance even though she still felt guilty. She was also shown to have a tremendous amount of bravery, resolve, and conviction, going to great lengths for those she cared for. When she was looking for the missing Barb, she boldly entered a portal to another dimension in an attempt to save her friend. Later, determined to kill the Monster, she willingly used her and Jonathan's blood to lure it out. In 1984, after the death of her best friend, Nancy still carried a tremendous amount of guilt and even blamed herself for causing Barb's demise. Nancy barely revealed her sadness and guilt to anyone but Steve and Jonathan. However, after getting intoxicated at a Halloween party, Nancy vented her sadness, anger, and guilt on Steve, which caused her to reveal that she no longer loved him. Although Nancy had no memory of her drunken state the following day, she felt guilty for saying those harsh words to Steve and wondered if she actually meant what she said. After keeping the truth behind Barb's death for a year, Nancy decided to avenge her friend by exposing Hawkins Lab where Barb was finally given a funeral, along with Barb's parents finally getting closure. When Nancy started working at The Hawkins Post, she strove to work hard and do her best. However, surrounded by misogynistic co-workers, Nancy was belittled and mocked despite her treating her co-workers kindly. Because of the ridicule she received from her co-workers, Nancy was determined to receive the approval and recognition from her co-workers by going through such lengths to be treated equally and respectfully. Nancy's determination to gain her co-workers' respect led her to making decisions without thinking thoroughly; this, in turn, resulted in her and Jonathan getting fired and their relationship becoming strained. After a talk with her mother, Nancy overcame the cruelty that she endured from the journalists at the Hawkins Post and reconciled with Jonathan. In 1986, Nancy continued pursuing journalism by working for her school's newspaper. However, she struggled with inner frustration over her relationship with Jonathan as he had moved away to California and barely kept in touch with her where neither of them decided to visit each other during spring break. Nancy even showed annoyance when someone spoke about her relationship with Jonathan and insisted everything was fine between the two of them. When she reunited with Jonathan, Nancy was happy to see him, but denied that there were problems in their relationship. Once fellow student Chrissy Cunningham was mysteriously murdered, Nancy sought to investigate and unlike her former co-workers from the Hawkins Post, she approached individuals kindly and sought only to write truthful stories, instead of gossip. As Nancy investigated and searched for Vecna with the Party, her guilt and trauma over Barb's death began to resurface which Vecna used to torment Nancy when he enthralled her under a curse. Yet, despite being traumatized by her encounter with Vecna who also showed her visions of her family dying, Nancy's will did not break as she grew determined to kill Vecna. Physical information Height 5'4" (163cm) Eye color Blue Hair color Brown While attending Hawkins High, Steve was initially the typical popular boy that gained attention from everyone near him, though this caused him to fall out of favor with the lesser-known kids at school who labeled him as a "douchebag". Despite having a charming personality, he eventually fell into the wrong crowd of the snarkier popular kids, although his compassion lay underneath his superficiality. When beginning to date Nancy Wheeler, Steve displayed his softer side and revealed himself to be hopelessly in love with her, though this in turn revealed his insecurities, as he instantly believed Nancy was sleeping with Jonathan Byers when seeing them together in her bedroom, and soon caused him to vandalize property with graffiti featuring slurs of Nancy and Jonathan. It's not until Jonathan physically beats up Steve in rage that he realizes how awful his behavior was and immediately went to the Byers's home to apologize, only to be sucked into protecting them from the Monster. At Christmas, 1983, Steve and Nancy purchased Jonathan a new camera to replace the one he and Tommy broke. Between his breakup with Nancy and Billy quickly taking over his status as "King Bee" and most popular boy, Steve was at a low point emotionally. While trying to make amends with Nancy, Dustin intercepted him and asked Steve to help catch D'Artagnan. The boys quickly bond, and Steve is shown to have a more parental or mentoring side as he gives Dustin relationship advice. Steve took on the role of 'babysitter' for the kids and was willing to put himself in danger to protect them. He had matured and became far more kind and responsible than he used to be. In 1985, Steve was a shadow of what he once was. Aside from his sarcasm and recklessness, a lot of his traits that he displayed in his high school years have disappeared. He was incredibly awkward and unsuccessful with the girls he serves at Scoops Ahoy, and the only positive female relationship he seems to have is with his co-worker, Robin. His friendship with Dustin is still strong, if not stronger and he seems to be on good terms with the rest of the Hawkins gang. Steve is also shown to be more kind-hearted and tolerant of things he used to poke fun of. Aside from engaging in nerd culture, he is also shed his homophobic views which is shown when he still accepted Robin as a friend after she came out to him. In 1986, Steve began working at a local movie rental store Family Video, with him finding it difficult to find a suitable girlfriend for himself and started developing romantic feelings towards Nancy again. He also helped Robin deal with her crush, Vickie, and advised her to pursue her as he wanted Robin to be happy. He became jealous of Eddie and Dustin's growing friendship as he felt Eddie was taking over his brotherly role. However, Steve later softened when Eddie told him Dustin was always talking about him and worshipped him. When formulating a plan to kill Vecna, Steve had a heart to heart about his dreams with Nancy, having five or six kids and traveling around in an RV and he later told Nancy the dream included her. He frequently resolved the conflicts within the group by drawing their attention to what was going on around them. He had a neutral, level-headed approach to Eleven and the supernatural events unfolding around them; in some ways, he was a negotiator between the open-minded Mike and the skeptical Lucas. Dustin is also the most scientifically inclined of the group (despite his love of fantasy) and may be the most intelligent of the quartet- notwithstanding his bad judgement in keeping Dart as a pet, although even this unexpectedly saved the group in the end. Dustin is also shown to be well-behaved around girls, trying to flirt with them. When he developed a brief crush on Max Mayfield, he did any means to impress her such as inviting her to go trick-or-treating or showing Dart to her though his attempts went a little too far. After receiving advice from Steve and Nancy on how to approach girls, Dustin managed to get the attention of Suzie whom he met at Camp Know Where. As he dated Suzie, he would affectionately call her "Suzie-Poo", sing "Neverending Story" to her, and describe her as the perfect girl (though Dustin's descriptions of her made others doubt her existence). In 1986, Dustin's personality remained the same by the time he entered high school. When Eddie Munson became a suspect in the murder of Chrissy Cunningham, Dustin refused to believe Eddie was responsible as Eddie had been kind to him and Mike when they started high school. Dustin's belief in Eddie's innocence was proven to be true when Eddie revealed how Chrissy was killed through supernatural means. While investigating Vecna with his friends, Dustin proved how high his intelligence was by remembering how portals to the Upside Down were found due their electromagnetic fields affected a compass needle, figuring out how Vecna was opening portals through making psychic contacts with his victims, and developed a plan to attack Vecna's physical body while he was attacking another victim by entering its mind. In comparison to Steve, Robin is more realistic and speaks the truth, rather than worrying about how her actions will jeopardize her image, something she admits she doesn't really have. She reveals to Steve that even though she comes off as cynical, she admits she does want to be accepted for who she really is. Robin is also talented in music, soccer, and fluency in multiple languages, which comes to Steve and Dustin's benefit when deciphering the Russian code coming from Dustin's radio. Another trait that shines through overtime is her compassion for the people close to her; while initially riding on Steve for peaking in high school and ignoring her, she soon grows to care for him - to the point where eventually admits her true sexuality after Steve admits liking her romantically. Robin is also shown to be a good negotiator, helping Steve get a job at Family Video after Keith shows some hesitance. During her time at Scoops Ahoy, Steve mentioned Robin to be "hyper"; it's likely this side of her is hidden when around people Robin doesn't know. A year after the destruction of Starcourt Mall, Robin enjoyed the company of Steve and his friends while trying to get closer to them, especially to Nancy Wheeler. Even after learning of the Upside Down, Robin was quick to accept them and was willing to help stop the alternate dimension's evil monsters from terrorizing Hawkins. Similar to Max Mayfield, Robin's clothing style is less strict about following traditional gender norms: her new job at the video store has a more relaxed dress code. The clothes she wears typically don't adhere to her body and run large and have a masculine edge, such as slacks, dress shirts, blazers and ties. She also wears a heavily patched Wranglers jacket and, notable in the fight against Vecna, she wore a military style beret. In certain situations, she is seen in more feminine attire (notably entirely borrowed from Nancy), when she accompanied her to Pennhurst Mental Hospital to interrogate Victor Creel. Yet, Robin was willing to go along what she disliked in order to question Creel so she and her friends can stop Vecna and his killing spree. Despite being a small-town boy, according to Joyce, he wants to go to college at New York University. He has a strong bond with his family and is implied to have a soft spot for animals, as he cried for a week after his tenth birthday when his father forced him to kill a rabbit on a hunting trip. He also has a keen interest in music, creating several mixtapes for himself and his brother, and is an aspiring photographer. In 1984, Jonathan's personality managed to change a little bit. He became protective of Will, but not as much as his mother. He even encouraged Will to not let his differences bother him and that it's okay to be different not matter what. Jonathan tries to be by his brother's side despite it being difficult as Jonathan noted that Will has changed a lot since his time in the Upside Down. Jonathan was also not too happy with his mother's relationship with Bob Newby as both he and Joyce suffered from constant verbal abuse from his father than Will ever did. Jonathan also became friends with Steve Harrington and was on good terms with him. Jonathan also developed feelings for Nancy Wheeler, who shared his trauma, but struggled to accept them until he was encouraged by Murray Bauman. And by a month later, Jonathan was happy to start a relationship with Nancy. In 1985, Jonathan had become a devoted boyfriend to Nancy as he was willing to help and take care of her while they both worked at The Hawkins Post. Jonathan disapproved of how his co-workers treated Nancy and always comforted her after she was insulted while trying to stay loyal to his job. Jonathan was even willing to assist Nancy in gaining respect from their co-workers, but when Nancy started to go through such lengths to earn the approval, she believed she deserved, Jonathan became reluctant and worried that Nancy was not making the right decisions. When Nancy's determination led to the both of them getting fired, Jonathan angrily blamed Nancy for costing him his job and means to support his family, thus causing his relationship with her to become strained. However, when informed that the Mind Flayer had returned to Hawkins and that both of their brothers could be danger, Jonathan didn't hesitate to work with Nancy to protect their brothers and friends while stopping the Mind Flayer. This allowed Jonathan to apologize to Nancy for not fully supporting her and Nancy to apologize to him in turn for criticizing him, as the two rekindled their relationship. In 1986, Jonathan had grown to be more carefree and relaxed upon meeting his new best friend, Argyle, beginning to smoke weed with him daily and hiding it from his mother by wearing sunglasses. In turn, he became more goofy and unaware of his surroundings, much to his brother's frustration. His smoking of weed stemmed from his strained long-distance relationship with Nancy, as they both originally planned to attend Emerson College in Massachusetts. He eventually revealed to Argyle that he didn't even apply to Emerson, instead choosing to go to Lenora Community College locally in order to be closer with his family. He didn't want to chase a dream with Nancy that wasn't his and further revealed that he was planning on ending things with Nancy, believing that if Nancy followed him, she would grow bitter and the pair's relationship would form into Joyce and Lonnie's poor marriage. As the search for Eleven progressed, however, Jonathan slowly grew out of his habit, getting easily annoyed by Argyle's antics. He also slowly started to notice how Will was struggling with his sexuality and revealing his feelings to his best friend, Mike. In turn, Jonathan apologized for not being there for Will, saying that he had been distant due to prioritizing his silly antics, and promises Will that he'll always be there for him and love him no matter what, causing Will to weep and embrace him. Upon traveling across the country to save Nancy and his friends, Jonathan displayed his love for his girlfriend when reuniting with Nancy, but still failed to admit the truth about his Emerson acceptance letter, and also becoming worried about their relationship after Nancy admits admiration of Steve's maturity. Even during fantastical D&D campaigns, Lucas was hesitant when speculating about the more unlikely events and scenarios. He was initially wary of Eleven and her powers, which further displayed a hesitation towards the abnormal. His sustained realist approach, even during unfathomable situations, indicated that he took the task of finding Will incredibly seriously, and was determined to find him. Despite sometimes putting on a defensive and reactionary shell, Lucas was ultimately sweet-natured and had good interests at heart. In 1984, Lucas's personality took much of a big change. He has come to accept the abnormal and what is different from others. Last year's events also seemed to have haunted Lucas such as when he explains it all to Max Mayfield, he feels those events happened yesterday and wished he wasn't serious about it. Lucas also became more open to others as he invited Max to join his circle of friends, told her of last year's events, and sympathized with her troubled family life. In 1985, Lucas has grown to be more mature, especially when it comes to his relationship with Max. He's also able to admit his mistakes and make up for them. Lucas also is willing to give advice especially to Mike when the latter starts dealing in problems with his relationship with Eleven. When Lucas learned that Max and Eleven spied on him and Mike, Lucas, who was shocked and upset with this at first, quickly forgives the girls, showing his forgiving nature. Lucas is also shown to playfully tease his friends on their relationships with their girlfriends; teasing Mike on the time he spends with Eleven and mocking Dustin by singing "NeverEnding Story" which he heard when Dustin sang the song to his long-distant girlfriend, Suzie. In 1986, when starting high school, Lucas desired to become popular due to enduring years of being bullied and treated like an outcast. This desire put a strain on his relationships with his friends and Max where he tried to offer them opportunities to become popular and come to his basketball games, even though they showed no interest in either of them. Lucas would even try to hide his nerdy habits from his basketball teammates in order to stay cool, which he would come to regret when he witnessed his team beat up the members of Corroded Coffin to reveal the location of Eddie Munson. Yet, despite being estranged from his friends, Lucas was still completely loyal to them as he tricked his basketball teammates by revealing the wrong location of Eddie's hideout in order to protect them. However, Lucas still considered his basketball teammates to be his friends where he was shocked and saddened by the death of Patrick McKinney and attempted to fruitlessly reason with Jason Carver before being horrified by the former's gruesome death. As Lucas helped the Party investigate and attempt to stop Vecna, Lucas reconciled with them and began to rekindle his relationship with Max where the two started to plan a date before Max was severely injured by Vecna, leaving Lucas devastated. Physical information Height 5'8" (173 cm) Eye color Brown Hair color Black Max is a tomboy, having many interests that some wouldn't consider "conventional" for a girl during the time period. While growing up in California, she displayed no interest in things like press-on nails, perms, or getting a tan.[1] She greatly enjoys skateboarding and is skilled at arcade games (such as Dig Dug), being proficient enough to achieve the top scores. She also displays a slight interest in horror films, having dressed as Michael Myers for Halloween. Max has some driving experience and was able to drive her brother's car fairly well. Whenever Billy's dad beat him, Max stood up for Billy to protect him and even offered him ice. Max admitted sometimes she hated Billy, and sometimes, she did warm up to him. Due to moving to Hawkins and her brother's abusive treatment towards her, she was initially anti-social and cautious towards other people and frequently proved to be highly acerbic and overall aloof. Her distrust made her skeptical, and she had a hard time believing the strange events that occurred in her new town. Nevertheless, she was willing to lend a helping hand once she accepted the gravity of the situation. While she initially brushed off Lucas and Dustin's attempts at befriending her, she was shown to be eager to become a member of the Party, continuously enduring their harsh treatment in order to be included. When she was eventually accepted into the Party, she was immensely loyal toward her new friends, self-identifying as a "zoomer" as her role in the group and going so far as standing up to Billy in order to protect them. A year after moving to Hawkins and meeting her new friends, Max appeared to be more social and trusting of her friends. Even after witnessing the Upside Down and its monsters, Max still had some doubts about the supernatural, but she believed in them, suggesting that Max was slowly understanding and accepting the paranormal events. When Eleven came to her for relationship advice, Max gladly talked her through what she should do, using her past break-ups with Lucas as a reference. Though the two girls had not had much previous interaction, Max wanted to help Eleven with her problems and encouraged her to be herself, instead of letting the men in her life control her. While Max harbored anger toward her brother because of how much he abused her, she became deeply concerned for him when she and her friends discovered that he had been possessed by the Mind Flayer. After Billy was killed, Max was left devastated and mourned for him in the months following his death. In 1986, months after Billy's death, Max continued to mourn for her stepbrother and harbored guilt for not being able to save him and for having wished him dead in the first place. She also distanced herself from her friends, refusing to participate in activities with them and avoiding discussing her feelings with them and her school counselor, Ms. Kelly. Later, while confessing her the truth of her innermost feelings towards Billy in an attempt to get Vecna's attention, Max hints at her suicidal mind frame, claiming that she "now . . . prays something [terrible] will happen to (me) her" as apposed to her step-brother. Unfortunately, Max's grief and guilt made her vulnerable to Vecna who began murdering teenagers in Hawkins to open portals to the Upside Down. Having witnessed her first vision and thus believing she was going to die, Max wrote goodbye letters to her friends and family and accepted her fate. However, when Lucas, Dustin, and Steve played Max's favorite song while she was in Vecna's trance, Max found comfort and strength in her memories of Lucas and her friends, allowing her to escape Vecna and a horrific death. Max demonstrated remarkable bravery when she was willing to risk her life and become Vecna's target again, in order to give her friends a chance at killing Venca. When Vecna broke her limbs and nearly gouged her eyes out, Max grew scared and sobbed as she died in Lucas' arms, pleading that she wasn't ready to go. Max Mayfield was later revived by Eleven leaving Max in a comatose. Physical information Height 5'3" (160 cm) Eye color Blue Hair color Red Raised in Hawkins National Laboratory and completely deprived of socialization, Eleven was timid, socially withdrawn and extremely cautious of other people. However, she became fiercely protective and showed unyielding loyalty towards those who cared for her, especially to Mike whom she fell in love with, to the point of sacrificing herself to destroy the Demogorgon when it threatened to harm her friends. Even after being separated for a year, Eleven showed considerable determination in saving her friends by returning to them in Hawkins from Chicago when she sensed them to be in grave danger through the Void, reuniting with them in the process.
