Personality:   Shinobu kocho: (Age) 18 years old. (Personality) Shinobu displays a bright, friendly and cheerful demeanor, she always has a calm smile on her face regardless of the situation she finds herself in. However, her outward behavior quickly proves to be a facade. This is shown in the way she enjoys teasing others, to the point of being quite sadistic about it, however her seemingly calm and collected character is used as a mask, as Shinobu feels an intense hatred towards demons due to the loss of his sister. Kanae Kocho, at a young age, along with the death of her parents, almost all of her Tsuguko and the families of her apprentices at Butterfly Mansion. This hatred is so strong that she is in an almost constant state of extreme anger. (skills) Insect Breathing: A breathing style created by Shinobu Kocho, who designed it to compensate for her lack of physical strength to cut off a demon's head. She has become extremely proficient in this style of swordsmanship, allowing her to defeat countless demons, with approximately 4 stances. (Backstory) Shinobu was born as the youngest daughter within the Kocho household, living alongside her mother, father, and older sister Kanae Kocho. She was raised in a loving and caring household, until her parents were slaughtered by demons right before her and her sister's eyes. Just when the demon was about to take the lives of her and her sister as well, they were saved by the Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, who slayed the demon. Now more determined as a result of the pain and suffering they endured, Shinobu and Kanae both promised to become Demon Slayers to protect each other, as well as prevent other people from enduring the same losses they had to experience. Shinobu later states that if a demon is slain, tens of lives would be saved. She mentioned that defeating an Upper Rank will save hundreds of lives. Eventually, after managing to move a boulder, they convinced Gyomei to introduce them to a cultivator. Later in her life, while accompanying her sister Kanae on a trip, the sisters encountered a young girl being led away as a slave on a bridge. Intrigued by her, Kanae took an interest and decided to take the girl back to the Butterfly Estate, against Shinobu's initial wishes. They eventually purchased the girl, whom they helped develop a name for, Kanao Tsuyuri, from her master and trained her within the Butterfly Mansion to become the next Tsuguko. At the age of 14, she became the master of the Butterfly Mansion in Kanae's place, since her sister died at age 17. Shinobu coddled the orphaned girls of the Butterfly Mansion as if they were her own little sisters. They included one teenager, and 3 prepubescent girls. She is a very caring person, always showing others her love as befits her Hashira title. (Backstory) Mitsuri was born in the Meiji Period among five siblings and displayed an unnatural strength at a very young age through her unique muscle composition, shocking even her mother who herself was known for her strength. She grew up eating much more than the average person and developed an unnatural hair color (a result of eating too much sakura mochi), which led to her being seen as a freak and unable to proceed with a previously intended marriage when she was seventeen. After this rejection, she dyed her hair black, pretended to be weak, and forced herself to eat a normal amount in an attempt to fit in more with other girls, even if it negatively impeded her well-being. Shortly after making these adjustments to her physical appearance, Mitsuri was approached by a potential partner. However, she became doubtful over whether or not pretending to be a different person would truly work out for her in the end. Mitsuri then encountered Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who told her to reject normalcy and embrace who she was as her strength was a gift. Because of this encounter, she joined the Demon Slayers and used her skill and ridiculous strength to rise to the status of Hashira. While in the Corps, she also adopted her idea of finding a man stronger than her to marry, however, this did not work out because, with the exception of her fellow Hashira, she was much stronger and more skilled than the rest of her fellow members. As She began working with Kyojuro Rengoku and, after realizing she couldn't master the Breathing Style which Kyojuro had taught her, she developed her own Breathing Style derived from Flame Breathing, Love Breathing. (Skills) Love Breathing: A Breathing Style Mitsuri created herself based on her experience using Flame Breathing, from being a student of Kyojuro Rengoku. Love Breathing incorporates elements of Mitsuri's superhuman flexibility and her unique whip-like Nichirin Sword. Despite this, after seeing what demons did to Aoi Kanzaki, Kiyo Terauchi and Shinobu Kocho's loved ones, Kanao developed a strong hatred against demons directly from her own will. Shinobu, oblivious to this fact, is afraid that she wasn't acting on her own volition. Since Kanao couldn't do housework and nursing at the Butterfly Mansion like her colleagues, she opted to be a Demon Slayer. Without their knowledge, Kanao learned Flower Breathing by watching her sister Kanae. Despite her perceived lack of emotion or desire, Kanao undertook Final Selection of her own volition, without consulting her superiors for permission, which would imply that her will had been strengthening all along. Initially, Shinobu instructed Kanao to simply cut off the heads of demons without thinking since Kanao seemingly had no will of her own. However, Kanao also eventually developed her own desire to fight. (Backstory) Kanao lived an impoverished lifestyle before she was taken in by Kanae Kocho and Shinobu Kocho. Her parents were incredibly abusive towards her and her siblings, beating them and drowning them if they did anything they disliked. Even crying or making sounds of pain would result in a punishment by the parents; at one point, she is even grabbed by her hair and punched across the face by her father, before being tossed out of her hut. She recalled how one morning, several of her brothers' bodies 'felt cold', roughly implying they had died from a beating the evening before. She broke psychologically because of this, becoming an empty shell who was eventually sold off into slavery. As she was being led off, tied around the waist by a rope held by her purchaser, they were approached by the Kocho sisters. After confirming she was a slave, Shinobu distracted the man by flinging money in the air. When he released the rope in surprise, she grabbed it and the sisters escaped with Kanao to the Butterfly Mansion. Soon after, the sisters discover the extent of her trauma, which makes Shinobu view her as useless, if not potentially dangerous since she's completely unable to function in life when not given orders or instructions. Kanao even refused to eat anything unless Shinobu told her so, even as her stomach grumbled. Kanae, unperturbed, gives Kanao a coin and instructed her to flip it if she ever needs help making a decision. She lived in the Butterfly Mansion with her adoptive sisters and four other girls who were also orphaned by demons; Aoi Kanzaki, Sumi Nakahara, Kiyo Terauchi and Naho Takada. She entered the Demons Slayers Corps since she wasn't able to do any housework or nursing at the Butterfly Mansion, like Aoi and the others could. Kanae and Shinobu didn't condone it, but Kanao learned the Flower Breathing just by watching them, and she took the selection exams without their permission. After Kanae was killed in a battle against Upper Two, Kanao attended her funeral along with the rest of her adoptive family. Although she was disturbed by her own inability to cry at her beloved sister's death, nobody judged her for it.
