He is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps and the current Wind Hashira. Sanemi is also the older brother of Genya Shinazugawa, a Demon Slayer who fought alongside Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado. Before becoming a Hashira, Sanemi, along with his partner Masachika Kumeno, defeated the former Lower Rank One, Ubume, with Masachika dying as a result. Appearance Sanemi is a tall man of a lean muscular build with spiky long white hair and large pale purple eyes. His face and body are covered with scars, accrued over his many years of fighting demons. He cuts his hair short somewhere in between the Rehabilitation Training Arc and the Mugen Train Arc. He is usually seen wearing a crazed expression on his face. He wears a green-tinted version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, unbuttoned to expose his chest and abs with a white long sleeved shirt over it with the kanji for kill. etched on the back, white buckles around his shins and tabi socks with a pair of white zōri with green straps Personality Sanemi is abrasive, hot-blooded, rash, and stubborn, often times impulsive and quick to lash out. He is often indifferent towards others and can get angry extremely easily. The only person Sanemi displayed reverence towards was Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and this was only after realizing the man was much more than his outward appearance suggested. Sanemi has also displayed a hunger for battle, wishing that he could encounter Upper Rank demons. Sanemi's cold, rude, and dismissive behavior is the result of losing too many people he cared about in the past. Later, when he sees those people who have passed, such as his mother, he can't help but give her a smile to be able to see her again. When Genya joins the Demon Slayers in search of him, Sanemi repeatedly dismisses and lashes out during any chance of seeing him, but Sanemi didn't truly hate him; and in fact still bore the same brotherly love he had for him in childhood. This was however never expressed outwardly as he tried to push Genya away from him and the Demon Slayers so he wouldn't be exposed to danger. Because of all those he lost to them, Sanemi harbors a deep hatred towards demons and is convinced that humans and demons can never coexist. When he makes up his mind about something, it is extremely difficult to dissuade him. He did not believe Tanjiro's insistence that Nezuko Kamado wouldn't eat humans and even moves to prove his own point by stabbing through the box with Nezuko inside.After riling her up, he slashes his own arm to try and bait her into attacking him due to his rare blood's effect. Even after she doesn't, and Kagaya uses this as proof Nezuko won't attack humans, Sanemi doesn't truly accept the Kamado siblings. Despite his poor treatment of his brother, Genya, Sanemi truly did love and care for his brother, admitting that he blames himself for not protecting him. He even expresses that he wished that Genya would settle down and have a family. Abilities Overall Abilities As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Sanemi is a very powerful and skilled combatant. He has displayed his extraordinary abilities and proficiency in combat on multiple occasions. When sparring with Giyu Tomioka, Sanemi was able to fight on equal grounds with the Water Hashira. In the battle within the Infinity Castle, Sanemi was shown to be capable of annihilating dozens of demons comparable to Lower Rank demons in strength. Sanemi's physical abilities and techniques have reached their peak. Indomitable Will: Sanemi possesses an undaunted spirit and incredible willpower. Tactical Intellect: Despite coming across as outwardly brash and impulsive, Sanemi boasts impressive observation and comprehension in battle, particularly through action-based thinking. * Combat Intuition: Sanemi possesses incredible split-second thinking and planning. He was able to catch and kill countless demons on his own despite having no knowledge of the Demon Slayer Corps or Nichirin blades, creating elaborate ways to capture them by arming himself in any way he could and using his Marechi blood. * Weapon Versatility: Sanemi has shown to be fairly flexible in weapon usage, being able to use Genya's sword and shotgun along with his own Nichirin Sword in a high-speed battle against demons. Demon Slayer Abilities Muscle Control: Sanemi can control his own muscles to an extent, using it to close up and prevent fatal wounds from opening up in the middle of battle. When he was slashed numerous times on his body, Sanemi was able to manipulate and flex his muscles to prevent his organs from falling out. This ability surprised the demon and allowed Sanemi to fight for a longer period of time. Physical Abilities Immense Speed & Reflexes: Sanemi possesses tremendous speed and reflexes. He is the second fastest runner among the Hashira. During Hashira Training, when he was disputing with Tanjiro about Genya, Sanemi moved using a burst of speed so fast it made it seem like he teleported according to some observers. Later, Sanemi displayed a level of speed comparable to Giyu during a spar between the two. When faced with demons on par with Lower Rank demons, Sanemi was able to effortlessly slice them into pieces while still sitting down. Immense Stamina & Endurance: Despite sustaining dozens of scars and cuts all over his body, Sanemi never once showed signs of pain or agony, to the point he was willing to cut himself with his katana to test Nezuko Kamado: in fact, he did not even flinch when doing so. His incredible stamina and pain endurance also shone through during his battle with Kokushibo, where he could keep up with the Upper Rank demon for an extended period of time by himself. Immense Strength: Due to years of harsh training, Sanemi possesses incredible physical strength. He could lift Nezuko Kamado in her box with a single hand without effort, knock out Zenitsu Agatsuma with a casual strike, break a wooden sword because he swung it with too much force, and cut Tanjiro Kamado's ear with a single kick. Supernatural Abilities Marechi Blood: Sanemi's blood was revealed to be one of the rarest blood types, making it incredibly intoxicating and mouth watering to demons. It is also unique due to its intense potency that the smallest whiff of his blood immediately causes demons to salivate and lose focus, as his blood was able to affect the strongest of the Upper Ranks. Fighting Style Master Swordsman: Being a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Sanemi is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization. His swordsmanship proficiency matched that of Giyu Tomioka's, an extremely skilled swordsman in his own right, during their sparring match while undergoing pillar training. Sanemi could also adapt and work with Gyomei's Stone Breathing techniques to push back Kokushibo. Breathing Style Wind Breathing: A Breathing Style that Sanemi learned and mastered with Masachika Kumeno after tutelage from an unknown cultivator. As the Wind Hashira, Sanemi considered to be the most skilled Wind Breathing user of his generation. His level of skill with Wind Breathing is impressive even for Upper Rank demons. Techniques * First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter - The user dashes forward at blinding speeds and slashes continuously in a horizontal cyclone pattern. * Second Form: Claws, Purifying Wind - The user lifts the sword upwards towards the right, above their head and unleashes four vertical slashes at once down on the enemy resembling claws. * Third Form: Clear Storm Wind Tree - The user unleashes a whirlwind of slashes around their body that can defend them from incoming attacks and slice up their surroundings. * Fourth Form: Rising Dust Storm - The user releases several slashes above them from below their target. * Fifth Form: Cold Mountain Wind - The user creates several circular arched slashes that increase in size from above their target. * Sixth Form: Black Wind Mountain Mist - The user rotates their body in an uppercut movement, creating a tornado of slashes. * Seventh Form: Gale, Sudden Gusts - The user leaps into the air while swinging their blade which generates gale-force winds to shred their opponent apart. * Eighth Form: Primary Gale Slash - The user leaps into the air and swings their blade horizontally, creating circular torrents of wind that slice up the opponent instantly. * Ninth Form: Idaten Typhoon - The user backflips into the air and while upside-down, unleashes a powerful gust of circular wind that slashes apart anything below. Equipment Standard Nichirin Katana: Sanemi carries around a standard sized and shaped Nichirin katana with a black blade that has a jagged, jaw-like pattern that is green in color engraved on both sides. His katana's handguard is in an abstract shape with 8 points with an overlapping pattern; each plate has a forest green core with a silver border. As a Hashira, Sanemi's blade has the words Destroyer of Demons engraved on the side. With his katana, Sanemi has a standard sword sheath that is a shade of deep gray with silver marks resembling scars strewn on it. Fun Facts Sanemi loves ohagi and considers it his favorite thing,[23] frequently cooking it. However, his pride refuses him from saying anything about it. Sanemi is a marechi, but his blood is considered rarer than the average marechi. He's a good guy." - Flame Hashira, Rengoku Kyojuro * "We've barely spoken." - Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito * "I get along with him the best." - Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro * Sanemi's level of openness is ranked as 60%. * Sanemi is the only person shown to actively hunt for and kill demons before joining the Demon Slayer Corps. Before he knew about the Corps or Nichirin swords, he would arm himself with various gardening tools and lengths of chain. Then, he would find and restrain demons in order to expose them to sunlight and burn them to death. The Hashira are the most powerful members of the Demon Slayer Corps. These skilled swordsman are the pillars of their organization. They protect all of the other Corps members, and are regarded as the strongest among their peers. Finally, these elite warriors are highest in rank besides the Corps leader. There are nine total active Hashira. Each Hashira has their own region to patrol, as well as their own unique style, Breathing Technique, and abilities. GIYU 866 WATER HASHIRA There is a Water Hashira in every generation of Demon Slayers. The current master of Water Breathing is Giyu Tomioka, a stoic and stern man with little empathy for demonkind. However, his approach to fighting them is pragmatic, and he does not bring strong emotions like hatred into his battles — shown when he is sympathetic toward Nezuko Kamado as long as she can control her demonic urges. He is extremely strong, having mastered his Breathing Style and swordsmanship with such precision that he was able to create a new technique within the style. But he is severely aware of his limitations, and judges those who carelessly throw their lives away because of ego or impulse. Although Giyu Tomioka acts aloof, he cares deeply about his friends and the citizens in his charge. However, his antisocial personality and unwavering, practical sense of justice unfortunately make people dislike him. Despite this, Giyu Tomioka is a valuable ally in battle, adept at tacit communication and understanding in the thick of a fight. KYOJURO RENGOKU FLAME HASHIRA Rengoku is the Flame Hashira. He took up the mantle after his father. Rengoku is a cheerful, optimistic, enthusiastic, and loud. He believed the strong have a duty to protect the weak at any cost. In addition, he was honorable and passionate, with a pure, powerful love for everyone around him. His devotion to their lives made him put their safety above his. His skills developed from strict practice and discipline rather than any natural talent. Rengoku believes someone could achieve their dreams as long as they worked hard enough. And Kyōjurō Rengoku was living proof this was possible. TENGEN UZUI SOUND HASHIRA The eccentric and flamboyant Tengen Uzui is the current Sound Hashira. This Breathing Technique gives him echolocation and other advanced hearing abilities. Even though he is large and muscular, and uses that to his advantage, his fighting style relies more on aesthetics and flashiness. He is the fastest Hashira, and the second physically strongest. Obviously, then, Tengen Uzui is rather proud. He is demanding, fussy, boastful, and prone to selfishness. But he is also ultimately kind and caring, with great love for his three wives as well as the other Hashira. Tengen Uzui grew up as a shinobi, so his technique reflects decades of training to sneak around and withstand unbearable pain. In his later years, though, Tengen Uzui has rejected all other aspects of the shinobi lifestyle because it devalues a warrior’s subordinates to a dangerous degree. Tengen Uzui does not see any human’s life as expendable. Their survival always comes before the mission. Tengen Uzui has three wives. SHINOBU KOCHO INSECT HASHIRA The Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho’s outward demeanor is a façade. She acts easygoing and tranquil, with a friendly disposition. But behind her smile is a dark and mean soul, shown when she teases her fellow Hashira past playful ribbing as well as when she kills demons. Despite saying she wants to get along with demons, she is overly cruel to them, using mind games as well as physical torture when she faces them in battle. This is motivated by a desire to avenge her sister, who was killed by demons. Shinobu Kocho's physical abilities are lacking compared to her fellow Hashira. She makes up for this with creativity, cunning, and agility. She does not use a typical Nichirin sword, but rather a modified katana that acts as a stinger to inject lethal Wisteria poison into demons. Because this weapon can’t be used to defend, Shinobu Kocho utilizes Insect Breathing in order to increase her speed and the swiftness of her blows. Although she is an impressive fighter, though, she still feels inferior to her peers. MUICHIRO TOKITO MIST HASHIRA Muichirpo Tokito is rather forgetful and air-headed. Although some of this is due to his memory loss, his personality is befitting of a Mist Hashira — naturally a little hazy and prone to wandering often. Logic, not emotion, guides him. He is impassive to the point of appearing indifferent to those around him except when he goes into an extreme rage — a rare yet off-putting occurrence. It’s important to note that Muichiro Tokito isn’t apathetic, and is as devoted to his demon slaying duty as the rest of the Hashira. A child prodigy, Muichirō Tokitō ascended to the Hashira rank in only two months and is his generation’s most skilled Mist Breathing user. His indomitable willpower, constantly simmering anger, and immense strength and stamina are crucial factors in many Demon Slayer victories. OBANAI IGURO SERPENT HASHIRA Merciless, petty, and full of self-loathing, the partially blind Serpent Hashira Obanai Iguro is a deeply troubled individual. When he was 12, his clan cut his mouth to make it better resemble a snake’s, and he keeps the scars hidden underneath the bandages on his face. This may contribute to his animosity. Even toward his fellow Hashira, he is strict and unrelenting, bullying them for their mistakes as well as mocking them for injuries sustained against “weak” demons. These standards are also ones to which he holds himself. Obanai Iguro is a skilled swordsman. He has been asked to teach sword-wielding techniques to lower ranks in the organization. Serpent Breathing is also a style he devised all on his own. It makes use of twists and turns similar to how a serpent slithers to attack, and can be used in tandem with Obanai Iguro’s pet snake for extra effectiveness. MITSURI KANROJI LOVE HASHIRA Mitsuri Kanroji is the Love Hashira. She is emotional, protective, and, well, loving. Because she is shy and easily flustered, she tends to constantly compliment people in her head instead of aloud. This gentleness does not extend toward demons. Mitsuri Kanroji is as dedicated to killing them all as she is to finding a husband — these are her two main goals in life. Despite her petite appearance, Mitsuri Kanroji has a special muscular composition that makes her muscles eight times denser than an ordinary human’s. She is also more flexible than the other Hashira. These two strengths balance out her being the slowest runner out of all the Hashira. Finally, Love Breathing is her own new technique. Modeled after Flame Breathing, Love Breathing has a wide range and is enhanced by Mitsuri Kanroji’s whip-like Nichiren Sword. GYOMEI HIMEJIMA STONE HASHIRA The gentle giant of the group, Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima has a huge body and an even bigger heart. He is very sensitive, seen crying almost constantly, and soft-spoken. The pious man carries his prayer beads on him at all times. His religious upbringing instilled within him a respect for all living creatures, even demons, and he feels absolute disgust whenever he has to hurt one. Because he hates suffering so much, though, he will overcome his distaste for inflicting pain in order to save humanity. Gyomei Himejima is, physically, the strongest Hashira. He wields large, heavy iron weapons. And like the Serpent Hashira, Gyomei Himejima gained his rank in two months. He has enhanced hearing due to having no sight. His Repetitive Action technique allows him to maximize his focus. Lastly, his persistence is notable, as he can be near death yet concentrate and regain enough stamina to ensure victory The Demon Slayer Corps The Demon Slayer Corps is an organization dedicated to hunting and killing demons. Most members of the Demon Slayer Corps are combatants, known as Demon Slayers. As the Demon Slayer Corps isn't officially recognized by the government, its members are forced to work in secrecy, which means that Demon Slayers cannot openly carry their swords in public. The majority of people are unaware of the existence of demons, and even if Demon Slayers were to reveal the truth about their job, they would be met with skepticism and disbelief from most individuals. Allowing Demon Slayers to openly wield swords would only incite chaos and confusion among the general population. By maintaining a low profile and avoid drawing unnecessary attention, they can carry out their duties covertly and effectively. Nevertheless, whispers of the Demon Slayers have permeated public consciousness, existing as mere folklore in the minds of some. However, when civilians encounter demons or witness a Demon Slayer engaging a demon firsthand, they come face-to-face with the reality of their existence and the truth behind the tales they've heard. Without any support from the government or other sponsors, the Demon Slayer Corps relies solely on the resources provided by the Ubuyashiki family for its daily operations. The Ubuyashiki family's accumulated wealth, acquired through their unique gift of foresight, plays a vital role in ensuring that the Demon Slayers have the necessary means and resources to fulfill their duties effectively. Ubuyashiki Estate The Ubuyashiki Estate serves as the central hub of the Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters. Here, the leader of the Corps and his family reside, overseeing the daily operations of the Corps. This confidential location also hosts the semiannual Hashira Meeting, where the elite members of the organization gather to discuss important matters. Mount Fujikasane Mount Fujikasane, a mountain enveloped in a blanket of Wisteria and invested with demons at the area around the mountaintop, serves as the venue for the Final Selection. This entrance exam, organized by the Corps, challenges aspiring candidates who seek to join the ranks of the Demon Slayers. Swordsmith Village The Swordsmith Village is the dwelling place of the skilled swordsmiths who craft powerful weapons for the Demon Slayers in foundries and workshops. To safeguard the village from potential demon threats, its precise whereabouts are closely guarded and kept confidential. Butterfly Mansion The Butterfly Mansion is an establishment connected to the Corps and functions as a dedicated recovery base for injured Demon Slayers. In the mansion, injured individuals receive essential medical care for their injuries and undergo rehabilitation training to regain their strength and skills. Demons Demons are a carnivorous, vampire-like species whose primary diet is humans. They are also nocturnal as they are weak to sunlight, exposing them to sunlight would disintegrate them, though they also stay up during the day as they don't require sleep. Demons have an abnormally powerful physical constitution and potent regenerative abilities, making them immune to normal weaponry and granting them the ability to heal from any wound with ease, even re-growing their head. Only the Nichirin Swords, weapons made from special ore with sunlight absorption properties, can inflict life-threatening wounds. However, even with a Nichirin Sword, the only method guaranteed to kill a demon is through decapitation. Demons are also known to hate wisteria, which are poisonous to them and whose smell is repudiated by them. Practically all demons possess a murderous instinct to kill and devour humans, and have lost most of their memories from their human life. While they do still retain their original personality, most times it becomes a darker version of what it used to be, often corrupted by their core beliefs and their past. However, there are a few demons who have completely retained their human emotions and memories, such as Nezuko Kamado, Tamayo and Yushiro. Demons are also known to mutate and grow stronger over time as they consume more humans, allowing them to grow into more monstrous forms and improve their physical and regenerative abilities among other attributes. Once demons consume enough humans, they can develop Blood Demon Arts, an array of supernatural powers and techniques which are unique to each demon. Indistinguishable These demons are identical to normal humans at a glance, and mostly resemble their human forms, only with slight, sometimes unnoticeable, alterations to their physiology, including but not limited to: paler skin, pointed nails, strange pupils and unnaturally colored sclera (that may or may not be due to their demonification). Humanoid These demons have humanoid bodies, but with prominent alterations to some aspect of their physiology that make them appear unnerving or noticeably alarming. The majority of lesser demons fall in this category, sharing common physical traits including but not limited to: curved horns, prominent fangs, discolored veins around the forehead, elf-like ears, and specialized markings that resemble birthmarks or tattoos that appear somewhere on their bodies. Inhuman These demons are heavily mutated and barely resemble humans. Their appearance are akin to beasts, yōkai, and traditional oni. These demons can have mutations that range from multiple appendages, disfigured bodies, and morphed faces. Some demons are more monstrous and animalistic, while some are more abstract and eldritch. Twelve Kizuki The Twelve Kizuki is an organization of the 12 strongest beings amongst demon-kind, second in strength and authority only to the Demon King himself, Muzan Kibutsuji. Each member of the Twelve Kizuki has received a large portion of Muzan's blood, greater than any other demon, thus exponentially increasing their power.[1] As a testament to this, every member of the Twelve Kizuki can use Blood Demon Arts, supernatural powers and techniques manifested through their blood that only significantly powerful demons have access to. The number signifies their ranking among the Twelve Kizuki, determined by each member's level of strength, Upper Rank One being the strongest and Lower Rank Six being the weakest. The Lower Ranks have their numbers and ranks engraved only into one eye, whereas the Upper Ranks have their numbers in one eye and the kanji for "Upper Rank" in the other. While the exact relationships between the two groups are unclear, it is known that the Upper Ranks despise the Lower Ranks. The Upper Ranks each possesses a level of power that far surpasses that of the Lower Ranks; as proof of their strength, the strongest of the Demon Slayer Corps, the Hashira, have killed numerous Lower Ranks over the years, while the Upper Ranks have killed and eaten many Hashira. Kagaya Ubuyashiki states that it had been a hundred years since an Upper Rank has been killed. Furthermore, it has been remarked that the strength of an Upper Rank demon is, at least, comparable to three Hashira, although it should be noted that the capabilities of a Hashira vary from one to another. While the Lower Ranks have been replaced countless times, the Upper Ranks did not change over 100 years at all. Blood Demon Art Blood Demon Art are specialized supernatural abilities possessed by higher-level demons. Each time a demon devours a human, it becomes stronger, and they can eventually become powerful enough to develop unique supernatural abilities known as Blood Demon Arts. Blood Demon Arts are different from demon to demon, with every power seemingly based on a central theme (i.e. martial arts, sleep, the sea). Most, if not all, Blood Demon Arts are based on a demon's past, personality, ideals, interests, and/or occupation. Moreover, Blood Demon Arts may not have a singular usage, and instead grant multiple abilities under the same concept or theme. As suggested by its name, all supernatural phenomena and effects use their wielders' blood as a medium to manifest themselves in reality. Essentially, Blood Demon Arts are blood magic. The abilities and effects granted through Blood Demon Arts can vary greatly. Some can be combat-orientated (i.e. creating dozens of blades) or more supplementary and practical (i.e. controlling a fortress, manifesting illusions). Others are more simple and recognizable (i.e. manipulating electricity and ice), while others still are more complex and unorthodox (i.e. creating invisible arrows that control a person's vector, controlling one's biology), thus making the abilities of demon-kind extremely versatile and powerful.
