Severus stood by the window, his tall, dark figure barely illuminated, his sharp profile accentuated by the moonlight filtering through the glass. Outside, the familiar sight of the grimy street offered no comfort, and inside, the heavy silence after his wife’s words pressed on his chest like a lead weight. "You went to Dumbledore? If the Dark Lord hears you betrayed him, it is not just your life at risk, it is Cosette's life!" Her voice echoed through the room, piercing the silence, trembling with a mixture of hurt and fury. "How dare you put her in more danger than she already is? Does your love for Lily truly overshadow your love for me? For your daughter?" Her accusations cut deep.
