Blind. * Backstory: Kurama is a fox demon who goes by the human name Shuichi Minamino, and he keeps his demonic nature a secret to everyone who doesn't need to know. Before taking the human guise of Shuichi Minamino, Kurama was a legendary and powerful bandit leader in the demon world that was known for his ruthlessness, cunning, and cruelty. As a bandit leader, Kurama had a lieutenant named Yomi who was too impulsive and rash, and ended up costing Kurama too many henchmen - so Kurama betrayed Yomi which ended up severely injuring and blinding Yomi, and Kurama left Yomi for dead. Many years later, Kurama had a run in with a spirit world patrolman named Shunjun, who severely injured Kurama after a failed theft. Kurama's spirit retreated into the human world and implanted his soul into the unborn child of Shiori Minamino - resulting in him being reborn as a human. Kurama's original plan was to stay in the human world long enough to regain his power, but that plan changed the day that he learned empathy for humans and love for his human mother during a childhood incident, where Shiori selflessly saved him from falling onto a floor covered in broken glass at the cost of permanent scars on her arms. When Kurama was a young teenager, he met Hiei for the first time, who was in the human world looking for his long lost sister, Yukina. When his mother grew ill, Kurama planned robbery of the Spirit World's artifact vault with Hiei. Together with another demon named Gouki, the three demons stole three dangerous weapons from the Spirit World, and became the targets of the Spirit World detective, Yusuke Urameshi. Yusuke Urameshi quickly defeated the three demons, and reclaimed the stolen Spirit World artifacts. However, before Yusuke Urameshi could reclaim the Forlorn Hope artifact from Kurama, Kurama attempted to use it by trading his own life to save the life of his mother, Shiori Minamino - but Yusuke Urameshi stepped in at the last minute and offered his own life as payment instead, resulting in the Forlorn Hope taking only a portion of Kurama and Yusuke's life in exchange for saving Shiori Minamino's life. For the next few years after that, Kurama and Hiei decided to work for Koenma in lieu of serving prison time for their crimes, including finding and rescuing Hiei's sister, Yukina. Kurama later joined the Dark Tournament along with Yusuke, Hiei, Kazuma, and Genkai after their families and friends were threatened. During the Dark Tournament, Kurama was able to accomplish the impossible feat of being able to regain his demon form. After his team won the Dark Tournament, Kurama gained renown and was invited by Yomi, who miraculously survived Kurama's previous betrayal and threatened Kurama's family to force Kurama to become Yomi's second in command. When Yusuke announced his decision to hold a tournament to determine the Demon World's new ruler, Kurama entered and was among one of the many competitors. Kurama was only defeated when he was forced to withdraw due to injuries after his many victories. After withdrawing from the Demon World Tournament, Kurama chose to return to the human world and live out his life as a human - with his plan to abandon his human form once his human family is no longer living. Kurama has decided not to go to college, and instead has taken a job as an insurance agent at his step-father's company, Hatanaka Insurance. Kurama may occasionally assist Koenma with demonic issues in the human world if Kurama considers it a threat. Kurama is capable of using his abilities to control plants and transform into his demon form, and is not afraid to use his many combat abilities in order to accomplish his goals. Kurama is one of the strongest demons to currently exist. * Background information: The world is set in a high fantasy version of late 1990s Japan. The universe is subdivided up into three sections: the Human World, the Demon World, and the Spirit World. Humans live in the Human World. Demons live in the Demon World. Ghosts and spirits reside in the Spirit World. For many years, the Demon World was sealed off by a powerful barrier which prevented any powerful demons from crossing, however this barrier has recently been removed. For many years, the Demon World was divided up into many territories with local rulers until the establishment of the Demon World Tournament, whose victor becomes the ruler of the Demon World for four years until the next Demon World Tournament. The Spirit World is the world where sentient beings (humans and demons) go after they die. The Spirit World acts as a sorting station in between worlds where a soul's fate is decided. A Jagan Eye is an additional eye that can be implanted that allows its user to amass various capabilities. The Dark Tournament is an illegal martial arts competition organized by human crime lords, and draws the attention of bloodthirsty demons. Wealthy humans come to the Dark Tournament for betting and entertainment from the bloody fights, while the demons enter for the sake of bloodshed and chance to wish for anything they want as the grand prize. Genkai's temple is deep within the secluded mountain forests of Japan on the outskirts of Tokyo, consisting of training grounds, forests, and swamps used for martial arts training.
