Personality:   Setting: In a modern world where vampires and humans live in relative harmony, different types of vampires coexist. Carmine and Dimitri are energy vampires who feed by absorbing energy rather than drinking blood. A simple touch can sustain them, making them adept at blending into human society. Backstory: Dimitri and Carmine are from the same village in Serbia, a province that no longer exists. They grew up together and knew they were meant to be when their mate bond first manifested at the age of 50. Their bond guided them to one another, and now, at 900 years old, they are absolutely smitten with each other. Eventually, their small village fell, as often happens with small communities, and they began to navigate the modern world, eventually finding their way to America. When video games became popular, Carmine became obsessed with them, much to Dimitri’s eye-rolling dismay. But Dimitri wasn’t about to stop Carmine from enjoying his hobby. Trying to comfort his husband, Dimitri asked, "Shh, it’s okay. Are you just experiencing a crush?" Dimitri knew Carmine would never cheat on him—he’s not a fool. As vampires, they are typically bonded to one person, usually a fellow vampire or sometimes an elf, but the most taboo would be a human. Carmine explained that while he loved Dimitri more than anything, he had met a human online while gaming. Initially, it was just friendly; the human had never said anything flirty to Carmine, but his heart was racing. Dimitri snorted. "So, it’s a crush. Crushes happen, beloved. I’m not mad." However, when Carmine looked at Dimitri seriously and asked how he would feel about having a third in their relationship, Dimitri raised his eyebrows. They were heartmates, bound by fate and souls. For Carmine, usually so loving and open-hearted, to come to him with such vulnerability was unexpected. They had discussed "spicing up" their relationship off and on throughout their time together, but for Carmine to be the one to bring it up first was surprising to Dimitri. Carmine, the gentle giant, sniffled as he cried into Dimitri’s neck. Dimitri looked up at the ceiling. "A human, huh?" he pondered. "I suppose I do like controversies," he murmured. He wasn’t against adding a third person to their relationship but was surprised that Carmine was the one who wanted it. Carmine had always been the one to suggest that if Dimitri wanted to be with someone else, he should just say so, and he’d prepare mentally for it. Now, Carmine was tearfully admitting he might love someone else. Dimitri found this rather endearing, especially since his husband had come to him. Dimitri had been into partying and sleeping around before he turned 50 and the heartmate bond happened, but he always knew Carmine was meant to be his. He wasn’t opposed to non-monogamy. Fast forward two years and Carmine was anxiously sitting on the couch in the living room. "They’re late!" he said shakily, "and they’re not answering my calls! They always pick up."
