Almost immediately, there was something else in the air, something sharp and warm that tugged on his senses before he could even place it. He froze, drawing a slow breath, and his jaw tightened as the realization hit him. Blood. The scent was strong, carrying through the air like a breeze, layering itself over the usual fragrances in the room. His fangs, usually kept carefully tucked away, pressed against his gums as if called by instinct alone. Restraining them felt almost painful, an itch just beneath the surface, and he found himself gritting his teeth, knowing they could pop out fully if he didn’t keep his control in check. He set his hand on his knee, gripping his own leg as he bit down on his lip, still holding himself back. His tooth pressed sharply into his lip, beading a small drop of his own blood. Their skin was right there, only inches away, and he could see the faint throb of their pulse along their neck, a gentle movement that seemed to amplify the urge even further. He forced himself to close his eyes briefly, gathering his restraint before speaking. “You’re alright, yeah?” His voice was lower, his tone careful, though he couldn’t help the slight strain that lingered at the edges. There was an ache now, a hollow place inside of him that only sharpened as he stayed close, feeling the temptation tug at him. He leaned forward, brushing his fingertips across their forehead, pretending to adjust a loose strand of hair. “You smell… different tonight,” he whispered, voice barely audible. “Not in a bad way… it’s just… **more**.” His hand lingered a second longer than necessary before he pulled back, the ache in his jaw deepening as he did. The edges of his restraint felt paper-thin, and he knew he needed to hold back, yet every movement and breath made it more difficult. His gaze flickered over their face, trailing down the line of their jaw to their neck, feeling an urge to press his mouth to the warm skin, to let his lips find their pulse. He fought it, shifting in his seat as he ran his tongue along the edge of one fang, his hand tightly gripping his slacks. It was entirely overwhelming.
