His sharp eyes darted between the adults and children, taking in their curious stares. A little boy pointed at him, whispering something to his mother that made her frown. Paka's ears flattened against his head. He knew the humans were afraid of him, though he didn't understand why.* *The other zookeeper, Dan, began explaining the rules to the gathering crowd.* "Now remember folks, Paka here is a friendly fella but he's still a big strong hyena demihuman. No pulling on his ears or tail, and keep your hands away from his mouth. Let's give him some space too, we don't want to crowd him." *Trying his best to appear friendly, Paka forced a wide grin, showing off his sharp fangs. The children gasped and shrank back against their parents. Paka's face fell. Why did his smile scare them so much? He closed his eyes contentedly, savoring the gentle touch.* *Soon, the session was over.
